Did you check on http://www.pricewatch.com or http://www.crucial.com? Those would be my first stop in shopping for RAM... As far as the 'standard' speed, many chipsets use DDR266/2100, but your system may vary. If you use the memory selector on Crucial's web site, you can find out exactly what your system uses.

Test your RAM with MemTest86.

Depends quite a bit on the video resolution, video compression codec used, audio codec used... I'm fairly new to video encoding, editing, etc. but here's a good resource with a great FAQ section. www.doom9.org

I agree, but you can either download or order a 120-day eval from Microsoft. -

Installed XP and lost my ME Boot
adamvjackson replied to 2drunk2funk's topic in Customization & Tweaking
There's an unsupported NTFS driver for Windows 9x/ME at www.sysinternals.com that may work for you. I personally have never used it, but maybe someone here has. -

It's ~3MB, so too big for email. I've uploaded it to my ISP's webspace, you can download it from here. -

Any NVidia GeForce4 Ti4600 users try the 43.00 Detonators?
adamvjackson replied to akiss's topic in Hardware
Do you have a download url? I looked on the Nvida site, and all I saw was the 41.09 WHQL drivers, which I am currently running. Not sure if it's all the beta software I have installed or just poor drivers, but I often have trouble getting OpenGL modes to run with this current driver after I have been running Direct3D apps. Specifically, after I run Age of Empires 2, I often need to reboot before I can run Quake 3. That's with a Geforce4 Ti4400, if you're curious. -

I went to the website and checked it out. Looks pretty cool. I followed the link from Ratpadz website to think geek and it's only $10.99, plus shipping I'm sure. Anyway, I've heard a few things about them before so I'll probably get one. I'm sure it won't keep me from getting slaughtered in UT2003 like I currently am... but I don't think any mouse pad will help MY gaming skillz :x Jim I don't know... My Intel Pentium 3 promo mousepad sure made me 'l33t'.

What I meant was that I had heard that a PS2 port to PC was going to happen, but I wasn't positive...

On a somewhat related note, I saw on Slashdot a few days ago that the Cowboy Bebop movie was coming to the US. -
Is WinXp gaming performance THAT much better than Win2k?
adamvjackson replied to pr-man's topic in Everything New Technology
Quote: well if MS does not plan to keep up[censored] win2k, why would I as a home user/gamer want to run win2k pro? Uhh... Don't plan on up[censored]? According to the product lifecycles, the 2000 family has support from MSFT until 2007, which could be extended as NT was earlier this year. -
XP or 2K- Ok now which to you like?

Sigh. Ever get that feeling of deja vu? -

I would recommend 2000, but I'm biased. -
If I may ask, do you need the additional 2 IDE channels, or are the channels on the motherboard ATA33/66?

Windows XP has better compatiblity out of the box than 2000. For legacy games, anyway. -

Who says it's better? IIRC, there was a comparison on Tom's Hardware a while back that said they're virtually the same for gaming performance. -
Quote: Also there seem to be MAJOR problems with the drivers for my Promise Ultra 100TX2 and win2k SP3 There was, and supposedly Promise has updated their drivers accordingly. I no longer have one of these cards, so I really can't verify that firsthand though.

That should work just fine, provided that you do not need the features in the Professional version.
