    Windows 2000 SP4 Announced

Well, the beta hasn't started yet, so I would expect at least another 3-4 months.

    Remote control mouse

What are the chances that two will have the exact same frequency? Is the frequency posted on the box?

Older Shoutcast Plugin - Where to find?

I have Winamp 2.81, SHOUTcast DNAS server 1.9.2, and SHOUTcast 1.8.2 Source DSP; Everything works fine... Not sure about recording your broadcasts to MP3, though. Why would you need that feature, for offline listening/archiving?

    Win2000 (re)install

Just boot from the CD in the internal drive, rather than do an 'upgrade' install.

Slow boot-up, need to disable networking

That's good, glad to help! Adam

I have the SHOUTCast Source DSP Plugin 1.8.2, let me know if that'd work for you.

My own special way of saying thank you for all the junk mail

I guess it's probably going to take a spammer using a Senator's email address (or something to that general effect) before anything gets done, though...

    New CPU = random lockups

    Just read that K7 (>500MHz) had SSE instructions... http://www.sandpile.org/impl/k7.htm http://www.athlon.co.uk/ http://www.eetimes.com/story/OEG19990611S0004

Giving new meaning to "Special Delivery"

Hopefully the company from which it was ordered won't have a problem exchanging the board for you... What a pain, though!
  11. I'm not really clear on what you're looking for, but migrating from NT-based clients and servers to 2000 is one of the best upgrades... If you haven't deployed 2000 to your server, I would hold off and deploy Windows Server 2003 and either 2000 Professional or XP Professional to your workstations, of course dependant upon meeting the system requirements. If that wasn't what you meant, sorry, I wasn't really clear what you were asking. Hope that helps.... Adam

Slow boot-up, need to disable networking

Right-click on My Computer; Select 'Properties' Select 'Network Identification' tab; Click 'Properties' button; Select 'Workgroup' radio button; Type something such as 'Home' or 'Workgroup'; Restart Windows. Also, if you have broadband (Ie, Cable, DSL, Satellite) internet access, you'll want to check the TCP/IP settings to ensure that there are no references to the old network services, such as DNS, etc. Hope that helps!

Not the first time I've seen that, to be honest... Always worth a laugh, though! Alien, let me guess, you work for an RMA department?

    New CPU = random lockups

1.2GHz should have had SSE instructions. Someone jump in and correct me if I am wrong, but with regards to internet activations, provided LESS than 3 of the 10 checked hardware components have changed, internet activation is no problem. I know of NO internet-activation limit, provided it's all on the SAME PC. Every 120 days, the internet-activation database is wiped clean, so to speak. If you haven't activated it in that period of time, the next time you activate windows, the hardware that you currnetly activate with is the new 'standard' to which re-activation is compaired against. Given that information, I recommend a clean install.

My own special way of saying thank you for all the junk mail

Quote: Hi Hacker, Yes you're absolutely right about the e-mail address spoofing. When I worked at Microsoft some of the guys, I never found out who ;(, wrote me an e-mail as if it was from BillG@Microsoft.com which by the way, somewhat follows their naming conventions. For example my name was Christian Blackburn and my e-mail alias was Chribl@Microsoft.com. Basically it simply needs to be major offense to send out spam. It is a major crime, because so many people's time is wasted in the process. Or even better, have it be a fraud case for using some else's email address and spoofing theirs.

You probably need to un-join the domain and specify a workgroup name.

    NT 4.0 Compatible DVD recorders

I'm sure the drive would be supported under NT4, but the bundled software may not be... Also, since NT4 is close to EOL, I don't think many OEMs will provide support (indirectly) for it.

    Looking for driver olicom networkcard

Is this an ISA or PCI NIC? The short answer would be to replace it, as NICs are cheap, unless that's a server NIC.

    Windows.NET RC2 - can not borwse network?

Did you create a domain? If not, is the workgroup name set correctly? Have you cross-posted on the windows beta (private) newsgroups? Are you running the server with the DHCP service or you have your IP DHCP-assigned? You do know that unless you set up scopes, you can only have one DHCP server, right? Most routers/gateways are configured by default as DHCP servers, so you should probably check your router/gateway config, too. Can you ping the other boxes IPs? How about if you 'Run' \\%COMPUTERNAME%\ ?

I need a program that will replace all instances of a file

If this is a one-time solution, I would probably recommed just using the Windows search command... Would you need this program to be GUI or CLI based?

Windows Media Player 9 - Encoding WMAs

OK, I'm impressed... I just encoded a full CD (about 40 mins of audio) at the highest quality VBR from within Windows Media Player 9, and it only took a total of 1:46 to copy and encode the full CD!
