adamvjackson replied to tgg's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Navigate in explorer to %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\ and move the desktop and start menu shortcuts to either profile, according to your desires. -

How can I prevent the OS from checking for Sticky Key Combos

I'm glad everything's working... Sorry for the mistake! Adam -
Ok, I've got a suggestion to add... How about a seperate forum for NT/2k/.NET Server OSs? Covering installation, troubleshooting, security, etc. Possibly with some sticky guides/FAQ's...? I wouldn't mind helping to write a few guides/FAQ's either.

Security and the internet... the alarming truth!

A few simple modifications of group policy would help considerably. -
Quote: I have read that several people were/are having problems with SP3 when they install it with an already installed and pached 2000 install. I have had better results when I slipstream the SP with the install disk. Just a thought. This got me thinking a bit... I personally had better luck with a slipstreamed install of XP SP1, and I think all the recent installs of Windows 2000 that I've done were slipstreamed, too. What type of problems had people experienced with patching an existing Windows 2000 install? What previous SP, if any, were already installed?

You should... Believe me, I waste enough time as a result of trying it!

I agree... I play a mod for Quake 3 called Promode and it requires more skill than standard Quake 3... I went to a lan party a few weeks ago, where UT was the the only game... I played, and had a good time, but UT seems like more of an arcade game than a serious shooter.

How can I prevent the OS from checking for Sticky Key Combos
adamvjackson replied to Christianb's topic in Customization & Tweaking
It's been a while since I 'fixed' that, but here goes: Edit the sysoc.ini file and remove the 'hide,' from the accessibility line, and you should be able to remove it from Add/Remove Programs-->Windows Components. Adam -
Quote: The ACTs, both 1.5 and 2.6 are total pain to get anywhere, believe me: I've tried. Thanks to the generousity of several people, I now have archived ACT 1.1, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.6. If anyone wants them, let me know. If redistribution of the older versions is not allowed, or someone objects to my distribution of these, I will remove them immediately.

An all-in-one solution may be good, such as the Sony DRU-500A, which can write to DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW... In the US, they can be ordered or purchased for about $300.

Changing networked hard drive name?
adamvjackson replied to SnapperOne's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Try logging in to both machines as Administrator. If you have set a password on either machine, you can remove it by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and click on the change password button. As far as security is concerned, I personally log in as Administrator on both of my Windows 2000 machines, so with a bit of common sense, I see no problems with doing so. With both machines logged in as Administrator, see if you can access each other's shared resources (folders, printers, drives, etc.). I understand, believe me, how frustrating things can be when they don't work as expected... Have patience! You're getting there! -

Are you logging in to both machines with the Administrator account, changed the account name, or created new names? -
The PC version of the Xbox game of the year, Splinter Cell, has a demo available here. Get this. It rocks.

Changing networked hard drive name?
adamvjackson replied to SnapperOne's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Hmm... Did you reboot both PCs? It seems to be caching the name somewhere. Try going to the 'View' menu and choose 'Refresh'. Let me know if that doesn't work; I tried quickly, and I wasn't able to reproduce the problem. -
AlecStaar, I really hope you follow thru with quitting smoking... I don't smoke, but I hear it takes a lot of will-power to quit. I wish you the best of luck.

Ditto here, I started the 'switch' with Mozilla, and have since transferred to Phoenix, because I didn't need an IRC client, email client, etc. Also one minor pet peeve with Mozilla was that I couldn't CTRL+ENTER to autoadd the www. and .com prefix and suffixes, but I can with Phoenix.

Changing networked hard drive name?

These instructions are for Windows 2000, but should be similar for Winodws 98/XP Right-click on 'My Computer' choose 'Properties' click on the 'Network Identification' tab, click on the properties button, rename away! -
PartitionMagic solves this problem easily.. Create and format any size Fat32 partition... Why you would want Fat32 is another discussion all together. Adam

Quote: Quote: It's most likely not broken! Your motherboard probably doesn't support double sided dimm's. That was the issue with a friend of mine and one of my old motherboards. Go to crucial's website and get some of their ram specifically for your board. That sounds possible & would not surprise me at all... good possible point! APK Um, didn't I say that above? Adam
