Gamers everywhere, I just read that the Quake 2: Evolved project is on hold, due to use of some leaked code. I just tried this mod over this past weekend, and it had some great potential. If you haven't had a chance to check this mod out, depending on the level of interest, I may have a temporary mirror up. You can read the complete announcement here. Truely a sad day.

Glad everything's working, that's the idea... Easier, and if you have to deploy to many machines, you don't have to waste time by patching, rebooting, etc.

Are you using a legit copy of XP? If so, I'd recommend you slipstream it.

Cool, let us know how the benchmarks come out. -
I always thought the Terminator series had one of the best movie scores, and from the trailer, it would seem as T3 continues that.

That should be included in the .inf update, did you extract all the files to a temp folder before you ran setup.exe?

Quote: Hey, u know IDE controller card (highpoint, promise,....) don't really support ATAPI devices so my recommanded setup was to connect all cdroms to mb IDE controllers. Here's the recommended setup: mb IDE1: DVD-ROM mb IDE2: CD-RW promise IDE1:80GB promise IDE2:45GB Remember to set all device as master~~ And as always update to the latest BIOS and chipset driver~~ Also remember to get the most recent version of whatever cd burning program u're using~~ I'd just like to add that I agree 100% with that... Only possible change would be to have the CD-RW as IDE1 and the DVD-ROM as IDE2, but that's just a matter of preferance. Newumbrella is absolutely correct that not all PCI add-in cards fully support ATAPI. - Adam

Thanks, I shamelessly "borrowed" it from the random quote thing at http://www.imdb.com.

I'd love to find the Director's Cut DVD... Maybe that should be my Christmas present to myself?

Quote: The last Cd's I bought was Ramones' Anthology and Leon soundtrack. Sweet! Leon (The Professional in the US) was a great movie!

Since you have XP, you should download the 'Fast User Switching' powertoy, and keep the guest account logged in. When you're ready to leave the PC, just lock it/go to the user switch screen. I think that's the easiest solution.

I saw that... Just tried to be funny, I suppose.

Test your RAM. I've seen it be bad from the factory. Also, if you have a spare power supply, try that, too.
-
I would go thru and ensure all cards are seated correctly, and try reseating the RAM. Also, test the RAM using MemTest86.

Good luck, let us know if you hit a snag.

A slipstream install is where you intergrate the installation of a service pack with the OS installation. Typically, this is done one of two ways; Either creating a new CDROM, or as a RIS image on a domain controller. Also, for the record, I too, have had the best luck with slipstream installs of XP/SP1. Do a forum search for 'Ultimate Slipstream Guide' for detailed instructions. -
What is your current OS? If you're running any version of 98/ME, XP is a major improvement, my only recommendation is that you format your hard drive and do a 'clean' install, as the upgrades are always messy.

Download and install the Intel .inf update. You most likely have an AC'97 audio controller.

After you registered the DLL above, did you right-click on the shortcut and choose either Windows 95 or Windows 98 under the Compatibility tab?
-
Enable Compatibility Mode Properties The Compatibility-mode technology is not exposed by default. To enable an interface so that you can use this technology for your programs after you apply Windows 2000 SP2 or SP3: 1. Log on as Administrator. 2. Click Start, and then click Run. 3. In the Open box, type the following command, and then click OK, where %SystemRoot% is the drive and folder in which Windows is installed: regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll For more info, refer to MSKB article 279792.

If you check in the deploy.cab and support.cab on your Windows 2000 CD, you'll find some documentation on creating an SIF (setup information file) that will basically be unattended. Once you get that down, If you have 2000 Server, set up RIS, that's fun to learn. If you don't have 2000 Server, you can probably still order a 120 day trial from Microsoft for $9.99 or so.
