I think I read that DirectX9 will actually be released before the end of the year, FYI.
-
Quote: Is DirectX 9 out yet or they are still using the 8.1a. I don't think it is available for download yet. DirectX 8.2 is available, for Windows 2000. I don't recall where on Microsoft's site it was, but it was a large download (20+MB) for the entire directplay update.

If it's an option, try swapping video cards (and for that matter, power supplies) with another computer.

Quote: You might want to disable uneeded serivces as well Yes, and here's a great guide to what can be disabled.

Tray Network Connection Icon doesn't show up to power users

Would a third-party solution, such as DU Meter be an option? I use the Windows 2000 connection monitor myself, but I always log in with Administrator rights. -
No need to be name-calling, now.

Do you want to buy me one?

Try this. http://www.fileplanet.com/files/50000/58776.shtml And yes, I know FilePlanet sucks...

Quote: Nah, It's an ATX. I can see the ports on the back of the case/board. The missing I/O shield and the punch outs for the serial ports are what threw me... Thats what I get for staying up until 2:30AM..

AlecStaar, correct me if I'm wrong, but that looks like an AT case... BTW, good to see you're back! Adam

Personally, before I'd invest money into new software (which, by the way, I'm not convinced is the problem) I'd try reinstalling what you currently have. I would back up all data, and do the following: 1. Test your RAM. I recommend MemTest86. 2. Open your case up, check all your fans, does anything seem too hot? 3. Verify all cards are properly seated. 4. Try another power supply. If you must buy another from a store, only to use for a few days, then return it, I HIGHLY recommend that you do NOT skip this step. 5. Complete format and reinstallation of operating system. Keep us posted, I'm sure that between everyone here, we can sort thru this. Adam

Yikes, that's a lot of weight for a 7 layer PCB.. :x

I got a semi-official word from MS (You know, with the NDA they can't be exact) that the final release is scheduled for "Before the end of the year".
-
Try downloading the full (Offline) installer for your OS.

If you have the time, just kind of play around with it, the help menus are generally decent. Don't be afraid to format and reinstall, several times if necessary. If you have a second computer, you can set up RIS (Remote Installation Services) and play around with that... That's the ability to install an OS image very quickly over a network. As DS3Circuit said, any questions, just ask. Adam

Quote: Can't provide the link at the moment but if you look around in the MSKB articles you'll find the method to do so. The article is referenced under Q328874, but you'll need a valid product key. -

Are the 1394 drivers WHQL-Certified? Have you checked on D-Link's website for an updated driver? Are you running service pack 3 for Windows 2000?

You should be able to turn it off via the Taskbar Properties, or using X-Setup. -

anybody ever play 11th hour(old virgin interactive game)
adamvjackson replied to nate22's topic in Everything New Technology
I remember playing that, and "The 7th Guest". I saw a copy of both games on Ebay a while back, going for about $5 each. Any word on compatibility with 2K/XP? Sounds like I would probably need to run a CPU slowdown utility (I seem to remember MoSlow, anyone else heard of that?) -
Not sure if you found a solution or not, but I'd reboot the server, and see if the file is still in use. Also, you may wish to compare an MD5 hash of the w2ksp3.exe file... Mine reads: fdd5aac32f63e67f0cd28c6a1d50a1e4 Exact file size: 130,978,672 Bytes If yours differs, I'd redownload it, may have some corruption. Hope that helps. Adam

Some games will have the option to disable directinput, try and see if there's an option to do so within the console. For example, in Quake 3, with an Intellimouse, the scroll wheel does not work by default unless you disable directinput by typing at the console "/in_mouse -1" Just an example, but hopefully that will help get you in the right direction. Also, I personally don't see the need to install the IntelliPoint software, it's my opinion that it really doesn't help, unless you have a 5 button programmable mouse.

Have you had a chance to test your memory? I recommend MemTest86.
