Is this a new laptop? You should probably install XP Pro, unless there is 2k drivers for all the new hardware, which is not always the case.

Quote: Well i dont change any jumpers. I simply disconnect the source hd. You're running a PCI IDE controller card, right? Are your hard drives each connected to a seperate channel, or is one a 'slave' of the other? In either instance, when you disconnect the source drive, you will need to place the destination drive in the exact same ide 'slot' as the source. For example, if the source is the master on the primary IDE channel, and the destination drive is the master on the secondary IDE channel, simply disconnecting the source will not work, as the NTLDR will be looking on IDE 0:0 as the boot drive, not IDE 1:0.

It's rumored that RC2 will be released this week, FYI. I don't have a build number yet, though.

A questions on network utilization (windows taskman)
adamvjackson replied to dbgg1979's topic in Networking
Also, bad drivers are just as much to blame as bad nics. -
Quote: After ghost the hd initialises and right where the 1'st splashscreen appears the machine reboots. What a i missing? After the drive is imaged, are you removing/disconnecting the first drive? Are you resetting the jumpers accordingly or are you using the cable select position? It sounds as though NTLDR isn't 'finding' the OS partition. When you copy the partition, ensure that the 'Hide partition after copy' feature is disabled.

That's what I was thinking, too, but members of the Domain Admins group have by default Administrator rights on whichever machine the user(s) are signed into.

Creative 30.82 drivers or NVidias 40.72 Drivers??
adamvjackson replied to Marktait's topic in Hardware
I always use the Nvidia reference drivers, never the OEM drivers, but that's just my $0.02. -
Here is some information on Post Mortem, but it's really an adventure game, not an RPG. To the original poster, have you looked at Divine Divinity? I haven't looked at it yet, but the screenshots like nice. There's a demo available, too, which has the first dungeon... You'll only want to get that if you have broadband, though, as it's 400+ MB.

Quote: If you loved the Longest Journey, I would recommend that you try and find a game called "Syberia" Don't know who publishes it in the US, but check out the website. Yes, and the same company also has Post Mortem, which should be released soon, if it hasn't been already. Both games look great!

Yes, I agree, my personal favorite was 6 (3 on the SNES). Excellent story, excellent graphics for it's time, and arguably some of the best video game music ever.

Well, you did ask for suggestions, and I provided just that... If that's not what you wanted to hear, please be more specific.

I'm rather surprised no one has suggested the Final Fantasy series... IMO, the best RPG series out there.

There is no driver because NT4 does not support USB.

The problem with Rambus RAM is that it has very high internal latency, and has to run at a high external frequency to compensate. I recommend DDR, as that's the direction the industry seems to be heading. If you read some benchmarks, DDR400 is close to, if not exceeding RDRAM 1066 performance.

Hitman: Codename 47 , Windows XP help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
adamvjackson replied to yleclerc's topic in Games
So I assume that you're using a burnt copy... My recommendation? Buy the game. Not to be a jerk, but the game is fairly old now, and you ought to be able to find it for fairly inexpensive. -
Test your RAM, I recommend Memtest86.

You can export the all the personal folders by using the Import/Export wizard, but if you're using Exchange server, there's really no reason to, as all the messages, etc. are stored on the server, unless you have each machine set up to download the messages.

Quote: Another rumour I heard was that the final Longhorn had been leaked out and was now in low circulation among some IRC's. Any validation to this? There is a version of Longhorn circulating, I believe the build number is 3683, and it is far from a final build, from what I've read. Also, while it may be possible for a final release to be made by Q4 2003, I highly doubt it... That is based upon the development cycle of .NET Server, which I have been a part of (indirectly, as a beta tester). Granted, any server OS inherently has a longer devlopment cycle.

Have you installed the latest drivers?

Quote: I upgraded to windows xp recently Did you do a clean install?

Longhorn, or an OS based upon it, is scheduled for a 2004/05 release. Additions will include DRM, a new interface, and many other features.
