    MSHearts on NT4

I guess I should elaborate; I was just a bit concerned with all the new members joining just to request Hearts. I'm not really sure on the legality of distributing MS middleware.

    Diablo II Problem...

Sounds like a bug that would need to be patched by the Author, Blizzard, if I remember correctly. Have you applied any/all patches?

ReRegister Win XP with new HDD?

Quote: you wont have to reactivate for just a hard drive. Xp activation is supposed to kick in when 6 hardware devices change, or, 4 devices if one is a nic. (They love them mac addresses.) Yes, but if you have to reinstall, you're given 30 days to activate again.

WMP 9 BETA - Problems.. anyone else?

I've been using the RC build 2926 for about 3-4 weeks now, and it works great for me, although I've heard of some bugs via the newsgroups.

  9. Check your internet connection options in IE, to ensure that the ISP's installation didn't add any proxy servers. [Edit] Did the cable ISP install brand IE? Do you have a non-MS flag in IE's upper-right hand corner? [/Edit]

Please ship the entire computer to the following company for further information: Company XYZ 123 Main St. Anytown, NY 12345 Once again, Microsoft recommends you immediately ship your entire computer to the above company. Set a desktop item prevention

You might want to consider the use of DeepFreeze, a product which discards any/all changes made to a system upon rebooting. Volume/Educational licenses are available, too.

    Need advice purchasing CPU/Motherboard setup!

Quote: Well guys in the end i came to my senses and went for 2.533ghz 533mhz P4 with Asus P4S533-E with 512mb Samsung 333mhz ram. There's no reason to get the 333MHz RAM unless you plan on overclocking, that board runs DDR 266.

    printer sharing

With an HP printer? Probably not... Maybe if there's a driver package listed on http://www.hp.com for your exact model, and lists only Windows 98 as the supported operating system.

Can anyone tell me if 2200+ runs colder than 2100+?

Generally, with a smaller manufacturing process, there is less core voltage required, and as everyone knows, heat=wasted energy, so, if the core voltage is indeed lower, than yes, it will run cooler.

    Windows Update not working

I know that some Pre-SP4 Hotfixes have been released, so I doubt that's the case.

    2 NICs = 2X Bandwidth?

Hey guys, I've been pondering this for quite some time now. If I have two machines, both with 2 NICs, and have 2 crossover cat5 cables, would it be possible to effectively double the bandwidth between the two machines? I assume that this would require some additional software, but do not know of any. I would be open to most any OS, but prefer Windows 2000/XP. Also, what, if any, bottlenecks would be present? A PCI bus bottleneck? Thanks for your insight, everyone.
  17. Great to hear that, something worthwhile to save, should the need ever arise to install 2k/xp on an older machine. Thanks for the update.

    Direct connect between two computers

Sure, you could add a second NIC to the machine with the internet access, and assuming that the other non-internet PC has a NIC, all you would need is a crossover cable. These crossover cables can either be made or bought quite easily, for about $15, or so, depending on legnth.
  19. Are you trying to install from within Windows or are you booting from the CD?

Hollywood XCard...Any issues with Office XP (ctfmon.exe)?

Admiral LSD, I just read in the other related thread that your Office XP install was slipstreamed... Not sure if this would help at all, but maybe you can post your CTFMON.EXE MD5 hash, to verify that it's the exact same file as Dcxman.
  23. Generally, one must make the slipstreamed cd themselves. This cd is an exact duplicate of the original XP cd, with all of the SP1 files added, so when the OS is installed, the SP is also installed at the same time. Excellent documented intructions can be found here. Also, if you have any questions, if you do decide to slipstream your XP install, just ask, as many of us here have created these cds.
  24. Check ALL of your TCP/IP stack settings, and pay extra attention to your DNS server's IP address.
