What a can of worms this thread is. In some regards, this has been a stellar year for new games, but in the same regards, it's been so... bland. There hasn't really been anything that 'breaks the mold' so to speak, it really seems that a lot of this year's games were just 'filler'. On that note, there have been a few good games, depending on which genre one prefers, such as: Multiplayer: Battlefield: 1942 Adventure: Syberia/Post Mortem <-- If you haven't heard of these games, they're definately worth a look, breaths new life into adventure games. Action Shooter: No One Lives Forever 2 Realistic Shooter: Medal of Honor: Allied Assualt (Spearhead, too) I'm sure I'm forgetting something here, but that's ok... I'm looking forward to what next year brings, hoping something can really surprise me.

Well, depending on how daring you are, if you have or can find the EXACT same drive, you can try swapping the PC boards, but you may damage or destroy both drives in the process. [Edit] And if you open the case of a HDD, you'll likely lose any chance of recovering data, the dust/air will destroy it. [/Edit]

Best XP driver for Promise Ultra100TX2 controller card?

I would assume the latest, since it fixes the 2kSP3 bug. -
You can register for the CCP, it's free, and you can download the .iso images after you recieve your betaplace user id/password. If you don't yet have a MS passport, you'll need one, too. (CCP=Corporate Customer Preview)

For the Final Fantasy fans: Download Here It's just over 11MB, and it's in Japanese, but all you need to do is run the .exe file. I got 5219, with a P4 2.26/533 and a Geforce4 Ti4400 Post your scores.

Yeah, it's not a great PC benchmark, more than likely, it was made to verify compatibility with the new game. At any rate, I thought it was pretty cool.

Some newer boards have the flasing utility in SRAM/ROM but you'd still need to have the new bios on a removable medium that is mounted before the OS...
-
Enable the service under computer management.

I'd pass, just get yourself the Anti-Virus... The utilities seem sub-par with others on the market, except Norton Ghost which is only available in the professional SystemWorks package.

Can someone PLEASE shed some light onto this problem

Any of your hardware overheating? GPU/CPU fans spinning up to speed? -
The demo was good, I thought the full game/expansion pack was going to be released today.

Get rid of the BellSouth connection manager software ASAP. I have a friend who does tech support for BellSouth, and that thing is major spyware. If you're unsure, just read the EULA. It states that machine identifying information is sent periodically to BellSouth for troubleshooting and connectivity enhancements. Total BS. AFAIK, BellSouth DSL (in NC anyway) uses PPoE, I'll verify this with my friend the BellSouth tech tonight and get back to you. -
Yes, it's real... Those scripts have been available since the time SP1 was released, and right from the MS site.

If you have a 'Windows' keyboard, you can press the button just to the left of the right control button. It has a menu with a mouse pointer selecting the menu. Of course, you would first have to have the icon/object selected first.

Have you contacted them and voiced your concerns for compatibility problems?
-
Have you tried running the game with VDMSound?

Enabling Hyperthreading on non Hyperthreaded p4'2
adamvjackson replied to tweaked's topic in Hardware
Clutch: for what it's worth, I have a statusbar on the top of my screen with a graph of the past 10-15 seconds of CPU activity; Whenever I exit Quake 3 (on my P4 2.26) the CPU cycles are always at 100%, and I have seen this on other machines, too, which leads me to believe that the Quake 3 engine will all available CPU cycles. I would also think that only SMP-enabled/SMP-optimized applications could take advantage of hyperthreading, in reality, I don't know how much of a difference it will make. Either way, there's only one physical processor, and with computing, among other things, you're always limited first and foremost by the physical layer. Also, I do plan on enabling hyperthreading for my machine, but I believe I will wait for an official BIOS update to enable it, the possibility of reducing system stability is not worth the possible performance gain, IMO. -
Is there a reason the CDRW is not set as master? I've seen in many instances where some writers/boards/ide controllers will have compatiblity issues when the CDRW drive is set as a slave. [Edit] What are you trying to copy when you copy CDs? Do these discs have copy protection? Are you copying "On the Fly" or are you creating an image to burn from first? If you do a lot of CD copying I would honestly recommend CloneCD, and you create a disc image first, then burn from that image file. [/Edit]
