Slightly unrelated, but maybe there's a firmware update for your nic? For example, there was a run of Netgear FA311's that had the FA312 firmware, and the drivers wouldn't install, unless you 'forced' them in. Netgear released an updated firmware.... So perhaps 3com has some firmware updates?

So, what was the fix?

Freddo, what sound card did you have? What driver version, etc...?

Try hitting F11, which will toggle full-screen view. If you had it in full-screen view, that'd be why your menus dissappeared.

My vote goes to the Geforce4 ti4200, but if you wait a bit, you'll be able to get a ti4400 for about the same price.... probably around christmas time when nv30 is released... Pure speculation, of course....

You know, I agree totally with you. What's really got me up in arms is a former coworker who lied about having an MCSE, had NO technicial/troubleshooting ability, and got hired to replace ME at a higher salary. But that was my former job, I've got a much better job now... I guess things just have a way of working out sometimes.

Have you applied SP3 and DirectX 8.1b? Latest WHQL certified drivers? Motherboard drivers?

Download the full installer for shockwave flash.... It's buried on Macromedia's site... If you like, I can send you the full installer for the player. Just drop me an email. I think the latest version is 8.5.1, if I am not mistaken.

The SP3 version of scsiport.sys is incompatible with the promise ata100/133 controller cards, that's why you get the bsod. There's an easy fix, just replace both instances of scsiport.sys with the sp2 version. For more details, so a search of the forums here for scsiport.sys....

It's no secret that new drivers are optimized for newer hardware, Tom's had a review of driver versions for different cards, and the conclusion was that the drivers circa the era of the card are usually best. And FYI, it was the Detonator 40's that are supposed to add 25% performance gain... Yes, they're still in beta, and no, that doesn't mean that you'll get an extra 30FPS in Quake 3 on your TNT...
