Slowest mainstream site on the 'net

LOL Yeah, I saw those stats last night... heh heh So THATS why licensing is so expensive, they have to pay a small army of admins...

    Radeon 9000 Pro

Quote: i would take ATi any day over Nvidia - Nvidia does have a "faster" driver system going, but again @ the same time, why does a company have to release drivers SO often? Nvidia doesn't HAVE TO release any driver updates. All they are REQUIRED to do is include drivers with the hardware. New drivers that boost performance simply retain a customer base, IMO. And hey, free performance upgrades are great. When was the last time your auto dealer offered you a real free performance upgrade?

A different sort of refresh rate problem...

I think you'll need to force FPS not Hz... That will allow correct timing, at least that's how my NES/SNES/PSX emulators work...

    video card advice

Future games (Doom 3, Quake 4) will most likely need a better card to run at high resolutions, with details turned on... If you're comfortable with those turned down, it should be fine.
  9. In the screen saver options, just choose blank the screen after xx minuites... I usually choose 1 min.

This may not help, but have you tried changing the color scheme in windows? Doing so will also change the default fonts... It's right in the control panel, under display, and appearance. Just for the sake of argument, try a different scheme, and click apply.

CD drive problem - reading created cds in explorer

Sounds like some good advice, got most everything covered in there...
  13. Seti is the Search for extra-terrestrial intelligence, it runs (generally) as a screen saver, and uses your cpu idle cycles to analyze or 'crush' the work units.

    Messed up CD-ROM drive

Do you have a cd rom or cdrw drive? Are you running Windows XP?
  15. On my P4 2.26, I think 1 work unit took about 3 hours, if I remember correctly. If you use the screensaving client, be sure to turn off the graphical reporting tool, otherwise your work units will take twice as long. Also, the command line versions are supposed to be even faster, from what I've heard.

    FF7 problem? Ain't Chobco Race

You have to examine the planets, and talk to the other party members, if I remember correctly... after you inspect everything and talk to your party members, talk to the old man again, and that should trigger the next event.
