Yeah you can go back to older drivers, just do yourself a favor, and grab detonator destroyer... Boot in safe mode, run the detonator destroyer, reboot, again in safe mode, install 12.41's. This url http://www.guru3d.com/ should have the files listed above that you'll need. Good luck.

NT 4.0? Not as far as I know... Unless there's a third party patch.

For those of us that browse both NTComp and LinuxComp....

Ditto that, excellent work... -
Yeah... When XP beta was initially released, pro wasn't on the upgrade track, then when xp went gold, they allowed the upgrade... Interesting.

if you're using Outlook/Outlook Express, there's an option in the Preferences menu, make sure you disable that, too, otherwise everytime you load either app, messenger will load, too.

How about just swapping out your nic for a different brand, ie, Intel, Netgear, 3Com, etc.... Maybe AlecStaar has a favorite he'd like to recommend?

Both my machine and my roommate's machine are plenty, and I like the eye candy, but for overall playability, I prefer GLQuake.

Personally, I'd download Sandra and set it to bench the memory repeatidly overnight...

If used solely for the tv output, go with the ATI, in my opinion. If used for an all-around graphics card with occasional tv output, go with the Nvidia. From what I can tell, ATI seems to have overall better tv output hardware. I am still a Nvidia fan, though...

Quote: Catagory: Account Logon Event ID: 680 User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Logon attempt by: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0 Logon account: **** Source Workstation: **** Error Code: 0xC000006A Catagory: Logon/Log off Event ID: 529 User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM The above 3 show up on the event logs in .Net Advanced Server, too. I always assumed that this was the 'system' logging on, as even when you log in as local admin, the machine is also logging in as 'system'. The authentication package.. not sure on this one, but as I said, on a clean, unaltered install of .Net AS this is there, so I assume it is needed.

Running GLQuake 0.97/1.08 on my roommates PC, works fine under XP...

Yes it's shareable over the network, but I don't think the autorun will work.

I'd like to see some software to take advantage of that system... BTW, how much L2 cache do those chips have? Still a .13 micron process, I assume?

Now What's The Better Choice, W2K SP3 or WXP SP1?

Windows 2000, SP3... Hands down. -
Yes, I agree with you completely. News as of late seems that MS is (Understandably) taking a big intest in protecting it's assets.

Good to know... Thanks for the update.

So you installed the HP drivers that were included with the printer?
-
Were you using HP usb drivers or the native WinXP drivers?

My system on Ebay. What do you think it is worth?
adamvjackson replied to rbarbier's topic in Buy, Sell or Trade
I would think the monitor alone could go for $200... I have a 19" ViewSonic, too.... Sweet monitor. -
Excellent! Glad I could be of some assistance.

Unfortunately, I really can't give you an exact answer. Some do, some do not. Have you checked the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List? There is a chance that XP has native drivers for that kit.

Generally speaking, the order in which I seem to have the best luck, is start with the oldest os, and go from there. Immortal, snakefoot, I am in agreement with your posts.

If you contact Mandrake they may be inclined to ship you a replacement cd.

Mandrake 6 can't detect my floppy drive
adamvjackson replied to bobbinbrisco's topic in Everything Linux
Definately strange... And you're trying to install Mandrake 6? If I might ask, do you need that older version? -
Ok, first a question: you have 30 pcs, and a server running xp pro, right? I assume based off of that that you have your network set up in a workgroup. I was under the understanding that a workgroup was limited to 10 pcs. XP pro can support connecting to domains, a feature that was left out of the home edition. If it's at all possible, I would recommend loading 2k server on the xp pro machine, and setting up a domain controller. By doing so, you would need to have xp pro on the workstations, though. By setting up a domain, you could just define a general security policy to disable many features that you did not want your customers to be able to have access to. Perhaps someone else will have a more cost-effective solution, though. As far as the remote control, I'd check out either VNC or Radmin. VNC is open-source (a little buggy, but bearable) and Radmin is commercial software. Radmin does have a few more features, however. As for locking the floppy drive, you may find a feature to disable that in bios. I don't think you can disable the floppy in a security policy, so that may be necessary.
