Installing Win2k CD on a non CD bootable PC

Like duhmez said, boot form a win98 startup disc and select to boot with CD-ROM support, then go to the i386 directory and execute the file winnt.exe, and the DOS setup will start. Also use smartdrv.exe to fasten up the process. During the installation, you can select if you would like to remain with FAT32 partition or to convert it to NTFS. Good luck[/b]

    Suggestions for graphics card

The FX are good, except the FX5200, which is a kind of GF4MX. You hear FX and do not think of anything else ?

    Suggestions for graphics card

I won't consider for buying an FX5200 only because it has DX9 support; it's clearly outperformed by Radeon 9100. There are VERY FEW games built with DX8.x and none with DX9, so when they would be on the market, the FX series will have better prices.

    Suggestions for graphics card

I wold suggest an i865PE-based motherboard : ASUS P4P800 Deluxe. It isn't cheap ($150 in Romania), but it has all the features you want : support for 800 MHz FSB, 6 channels audio and 3Com Gigabit LAN on-board, RAID SATA, UDMA 100, 8xUSB 2.0, Firewire and (as ASUS representatives say) support for PAT technology, which is found only in the i875 chipset. There is also the cheaper version - P4P800GD, which has all these features, but lacks Firewire and RAID SATA; still it has SATA. This one is about 20$ cheaper. As for the video card, any card with the GF4Ti4200 chipset will do, or the ATI Radeon 9100 series, for a budget under $100. Over $100, you might consider an ATI 9500 which you cand transform into an 9700. From ABIT comes the IS7, which is also an option. Good luck.

What is the best antivirus for me??

    Kaspersky Anti-Virus 4.0 + updates. Excellent program.
  6. I have a program - Icon Extraction 2000 - the best possible. It is free, works on NT-based OS too, and you can save the icons in a couple of formats. If you can find it on the net try it, or if you can't find it send me an e-mail on radu_b@personal.ro and I'll e-mail it to you back (it has ~600k).
  7. But it does support Glide. The combination of Unreal and Glide beats all other cards.
  8. What graphic card was used for the first image ? I played once Unreal on a S3 Savage3D (btw, the best 3D chip ever from S3) which had S3TC, and now I've seen Unreal on a Voodoo3 3000 with Glide. I tell you : I don't give a **** on S3TC as long as i have Glide with Unreal. The images are very impressive though.

Trident 9420 video card under Windows 2000?

If there is a driver for the trident 9420 in XP, than it is a Microsoft certified driver and it's the best you can get. If you aren't satisfied with it, there is no better solution than an upgrade.

    New Unknown Hardware

Take the sound card and the CD-ROMs off your computer, then plug and install only the video card, and then install the others each of them after a restart. Hope it will work ! Sorry for the late answer, I posted as soon as I saw the topic.

Trident 9420 video card under Windows 2000?

No offense : can that Trident be a llittle 3D ? If not, get a Voodoo3 - 3000/3500 - is better than a GF2MX 200/400 and you have drivers for W2k/XP. If you have some cash, get a GF3Ti200/500.

    Renaming C:\Winnt

To be honest with you I can't see the point in renaming the system directory. If it is WINNT can't you really see that you have a NT-based OS, that is NT4 or 2000 ? (I don't think somebody is still using NT 3.xx) and i've never seen anybody with NT4 and 2K running on the same machine). You must change it only if you don't know what kind of Windows you have. In this case, hm...

    Win2k vs WinXP

Windows 2000 works just fine on my Celeron333 on an Intel LX chipset, and 128MB RAM, which is a pretty slow system. I have found good drivers for my V3 3000 card and everything else in my computer is supported and works. I can even play Diablo 2. Do I really need XP ?

    HDD Physical Error

I don't think you can solve your problem without losing the data on your HDD. Try to backup it onto another HDD and then try a low-level format on the first one. Anyway, you can run w2k even if PM gives you errors, and when you want to install another OS make a low level format, then make partitions on it in Linux.

    Voodoo3 & Office 2000 In Win2k

Of course it's not a hardware problem. I have a v3 3000 and it works just fine in win2k along with officeXP. I haven't tried office2000 yet, but i'm sure it works. My advice is to get the voodoo3 2/3000 w2k drivers from voodoofiles.com -> go to the top 10 downloads, and you'll find it there. Good luck !

drivers for my voodoo2 card in w2k on amd duron

He meant to uninstall the V2 card, install the Standard VGA Adapter driver, and only after that to install the new V2 drivers, not only update them. P.S.: I know that V2 is not officially supported in Win2k, meaning that you do not have D3D in it. However, if you manage to find some good V2 drivers that can offer you support for D3D in win2k, you did it !

    Stable Voodoo3 3000 Win2k Drivers?

Hi ! I think I am the youngest on this forum, but I'll try to help as much as I can. For Metallisoft : go to www.voodoofiles.com and you'll find in the upper right corner of the page the list with the most popular driver downloads. Select from there the Voodoo 2/3000 win2k drivers and install them. On the 28th August 2002 this driver was the 7th on the list. If you don't find it there, make a search with " Voodoo3 2/3000 W2K ". Also you can try this link -> http://www.3dgw.com/drivers/drivers.php3?driver=voodoo3. I've not checked these drivers yet because the file size is too big for my dial-up connection, but maybe you can download the drivers you need from here and try them. Good luck and please let me know what you have done, because I also have a Voodoo3 3000 which caused the one whom I got it from some troubles, but the driver that I've downloaded from voodoofiles.com works excellent for me in Win2k with SP3.
