When you get no screen and no beeps but all the fans are running it usually indicates a dead CPU.

The last couple of days my windows 2000 fully updated have started to become very slow at shutting down. It just stands at saving your settings for about a minute or 2. Anyone know about away to make this go faster.
-
This looks to be a common problem. I didnt have such a big problem with the long shutdown time. My problem was that my PC's behaviour had changed from what it was before. When that happens, I keep thinking whats wrong, which is very annoying.
-
Weeee i fixed the problem. It turned out that it is the Q329170 hotfix from winupdate that give these symptoms. I was told this at another forum where i asked too, and after uninstalling the hotfix windows shuts down in a matter of seconds like it used too. So nice that Microsoft releases "hotfixes" which decreases performance. Well thank you all for the help anyway.

I added all the changes, but it didnt help:( I really cant figure this one out.

ehh, I noticed that the article is made for WinXP. I got 2000. Isnt is possible that im going to mess something up by adding those registry settings, cause Win2k is older. Anyone have any experience with these tweaks under Win2k.

Thx alot. Ill try the different and see if it helps.

It is a known issue that Seagate harddrives works like shit in RAID. U cant fix it. Its something with the firmware in the seagate harddrives and seagate themselfs have been unable to solve it.

I have a little problem with my mail client in IE. 6.0 SP1. In some forums u can click on the users name if u want to write an e-mail to them. When i click such a name or any e-mail link i get this message. Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed Earlier I was using microsoft Outlook to view my mail over Hotmail. Outlook was very slow so i changed to outlook express with my Hotmail account. I think its some registry key u have to change to tell Internet Explorer where the mail client is situated. I just dont know where. BTW im running Win2k Sp3

I have checked that and it doesnt make any difference
-
It could also be because u are using SD-RAM with the ECS K7S5A. I have heard alot of weird stories with that mobo and SD-RAM. Is it possible for you to burrow a stick of DDR-RAM from a friend and try with that.

Sigmadesigns admits the problem. But they dont seem to do anything about it since the latest drivers on their website if from the end of 2000.
-
Im using the newest one from www.sigmadesigns.com

This is what it says in the readme that comes with the hollywood+: 1 - If you are using Microsoft Office XP and you have its utility CTFMON.EXE running, it'll stop DVD Station - the Hollywood Plus- DVD player from playing encrypted movies. This utility injects MSCTF.DLL in the memory space given by Windows to hardware and software manufacturers. A workaround is under investigation to avoid this conflict. A temporary solution is to disable this utility before the playback of movies : press CTRL+ALT+DEL, click on CTFMON.EXE, and click "End Task". After the movie playback, restart CTFMON.exe from Start-Run : ctfmon.exe & OK.

No it wont work. The issue has nothing to do with the OS. Its simply that totally annoying file that office XP installs that makes ur realmagic f*** up. BTW what exactly are u using the file for. I have never used for anything.

The subject says it all. How do u enable DMA 100? I ran a Sisoft Sandra test which gave me a result that match the one of a DMA 66 drive. My drive is a Seagate IV 40Gb IDE 100. I also ran PC-Mark 2002 which gave me score about 600. With DMA 100 enabled it should be around 800-900.

No sapiens, it doesnt. I have the newest driver and i had the problem too. I wrote to sigma designs and they are aware of it. In fact the write it in the readme when u download the drivers. Of course u can close CTFMON.EXE everytime u wanna use ur hollywood+ card. But actually microsoft has a guide to uninstall it so u never have to worry about it anymore. I uninstalled it and havent had any problems so i guess it does nothing. Here is the guide to uninstallation of CTFMON.EXE. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q282599&

Well, im running Win2k on a FAT32 partition. But here is some weird stuff. My seagate drive is made of two partitions, both FAT 32. There is a 5Gb partion for windows and a 35Gb partition for games, music etc. The first test i ran where i got the bad score was on the 5Gb partition. Yesterday i ran a test on the 35Gb partion. This test was better than a standard ATA 100 7200 RPM drive!!! Is it possible that the partitions can be run in different speeds? That doesnt make sense to me. During post i right after the memory test and the detection of drives, i can see that the drive is running UDMA 5 which is the same as ATA 100. I guess when it comes down to it, its just the test programs which are fucked. I downloaded a Sysinfo tool called AIDA32 and it also said that the drive was running ATA100. Does anyone know a good program for testing harddrives when Sisoft and PC mark are so bad.

k packman sound interesting. BTW im running fully updated Win2k. Isnt there a big risk that the Harddrive will fuck when u start messing with the firmware. It primary master on the onboard IDE controller of my ASUS A7V333 mobo with the newest VIA 4in1. The slave is an IBM 60GXP 40 IDE 100.

I get this error every time i shut down my computer. Anybody familiar with it and maybe have a solution to make it go away. I think it has something to do with my mouse or keyboard. I have an Intellimouse Explore 3.0 with newest, but i also had the problem wiht the mouse i had before. My keyboard is some sort of noname natural keyboard.
-
Well i just upgraded my free Zonealarm to Norton Personal firewall cause i hated the new interface of zonealarm. And guess what! The error went away. So it wasnt my keyboard or mouse but my network that was complaining about something.
-
K, ill see if that can fix my problems as well. Do u close zonealarm before u enter the game, or just before u exit?
