I did a search on this forum and tried a few tricks I saw but nothing has helped so far.
History: I updated my desktop W2K setup today with all of the critical updates, yadda, yadda, yadda. I have a internet enhanced keyboard (Ortek). I noticed that the driver was using the generic 101/102 key driver. So I updated the driver with the driver it is suppose to be using from the list. Reboot and the keyboard does not work. Mouse is ok.
I cannot type my password in the Log On box. I tried the following: Repair Installation using W2K CD, Use last known good configuration, switched keyboards. Nothing has worked so far. When I go into RC, I am able to use the keyboard in the "dos" mode. I was able to "type" to look at my autoexec.nt and config.nt files as well as win.ini and system.ini but there are no entries for keyboards.
The solution, as far as I can tell will be one of two.
1. Remove or bypass the Windows Log On. I do not see a *.pwl file that Win98 use to have. Any suggestion on a file to delete that has the password?
2. Replace files using Recovery Console. Does anyone know what files I need to expand or replace? I did a compare between my desktop and laptop. The keyboard files in System and System32 look the same as far as date and file size. If I need to make an entry to the *.nt or *.ini file, how can I do this if Edit does not work?
