It best to keep yourself on a router w/firewall than not to. Persoanlly, the most destructive viruses are boot sector virues so it's a good idea to enable Trend AV in the BIOS. I've nerver been hit by either a worm or virus, so the only reason I rebuild is do to fix a problem I have. Most of the time I can use either the first repair mode or the second repair mode in Win2K. I wonder how many people would be hit by a virus or worm if they followed proper useage of a system? I mean you wouldn't treat your car like some treat their systems, would you? Quote: Also, how fast do you think a government would be in having patches released? I mean really, many governments can't do anything in a timely manner, even when a large project that is either core funded annually, or one with a large amount of funding for a limited time (1-3 years) is involved. Plus, since governments are now regulating software, it does seem rather unfair that a government would throw out its own version of an OS. They are the ones writing the laws for software, and now they are going to release their own? Gee, I wonder what OS would be favored then... Also, the whole thing with security is total BS. If people even bothered to use the basic security tools that are freely available from MS, and enabled their firewalls on XP, or filtered ports with 2K, most of this wouldn't even be an issue. Plus, all of those office exploits were addressed a long time ago in the simple security releases that went all the way back to Outlook 98, but so many people are too lazy or ignorant of these issues. Yet, these are the same morons that scream about security. If they put half as much effort into maintain their systems as they do complaining about them, there wouldn't be much of a user base to support these outbreaks. I say let them make their own OS, and see how "easy" it is to do so. Better yet, I want to see how they plan on releasing the source of it and still use it in government facilities. That will be nice.

I think you might also want to look at the Panasonic MiniDV camcorders as well. They do have Firewire as well as USB support.

zonealarm pro Vs Mcafee Firewall 4.0
Copernicus replied to Radioactive Frog's topic in Everything New Technology
I happen to like PC-cillin 2002 alot. Quote: Quote: Quote: Zonealarm Pro is what I use and it works quite well. It can block pop-up's and can be put into stealth mode. The only other firewall I like is Sygate personal but it's nearly simular to Zonealarm Pro 4.0. I have been happy with zonealarm. I havn't heard the best things about MacAfee AV but I havn't heard anything about the firewall. I say put MacAfee on for a couple of weeks and decide for yourself. I have had extremely good luck with McAfee AV myself for quite a while, but I don't think I would care for their firewall. Then again, I don't like any personal firewalls and use major firewalls for my whole network. -
Lower the Nic to PCI 4 or 5. Most devices like sound cars and Nics like those lower slots.

My dad has an 80GB Maxtor just like that but I think 80GB HDD as the single HDD is small. I'm looking at the 120GB Maxtor(8MB Cache version). I think I should try to get a picture of my car. It's Indigo Ink Pearl(Dark Blue). I work for a Wal-Mart and I can tell you that we sell things for less than they do without having rebates. The only rebates that are good are instant rebates. Anyways, I buy a lot from Newegg and some from local places(Amenity Computer Services and others). I find some useful things just at the store I work at. When I needed to replace the Cat 5 cable I got at the Wal-Mart I work at(3279). I've gotten a lot there. It good to have a discount there. Quote: That is a snappy little rally car I must say!!! I am always hesitant when it comes to rebates. I buy a lot of computer parts and so far now I have not gotten one rebate check over a 2 year period and 14 rebate requests. These are different items, manufacturers, stores and distributors. Seems like unless it is an instant rebate, I NEVER GET IT>! Most rebate companies are scams and end up keeping the money. Or the very day the rebate expires they stop processing ALL rebates, including ones that were due to go out to the consumer. NewEgg.com has great prices, instant rebates and ship very quickly. I think you can find a deal similar or better on their site. -

Quote: Damn I pay that much for my 350Z!!! Well you probally have better credit than I do. Also, this includes Platnium extra care(I'm covered for for everything over $50). Besides, I can pay for this. Also, it's only 5 years to pay off. This is what happen when it 6.75% APR. I like the fact it came with a cruise controll. -
Newegg does have new Pentium-M and Centrino processors, but get ready to shell out a lot for an upgrade processor. Quote: Quote: You can upgrade, but most of the laptops I've seen use mobile cpus and sometimes the're hard to get here. Also check I the laptop supports the cpu. You shouldn't have much trouble finding mobile AMDs online. I know newegg has them but they only delive in the US. I would say go for a Pentium-M or Centrino but I don't know how easy it is to update them. For a notebook that should last you a while plus they run cooler and use elss power so the battery life would increase.

Would be good if I didn't allready have a 60GB I got back from an RMA. My 60GB Maxtor 06060L0 went ker-punk and had to send it via RMA. Luckaly, the place to send it via RMA is only 300 miles to the north of where I live(San Antonio). I really want to look into getting a 120GB HDD and newegg diffinally has the price. I think I'll have to hold off on buying computer parts for quite a while concidering I now have a Car payment of $385.61 starting Sept. 24 on a Toyota Matrix. -
The onboard Highpoint RAID allways seem to work well(last thing with I had with a Highpoint controller was a ABIT Slot A mainboard). I currently have a Promise Ultra 100 TX2 IDE controller. I have my Lite-on LTR-52246 connected to it. I works very well.
-
Well I would go with the A7V600 or the MSI KT600 board. Both support 8 USB Ports and have integrated SATA RAID. It seems that the KT 600 chipset comes out faster than the Nforce 2 boards.

HistoryKill is great. It diffinaly stops 100% of popups.

How can i burn cds that look like retail cds?
Copernicus replied to Mr.Guvernment's topic in Slack Space
Quote: my C82 is a good printer, cant deny that, but now that i got a digital camera and i plan to take many more pics, the investment into a proper photo printer would be good Well keep am Epson photo printer. I happen to work for a Wal-Mart Supercenter here in San Antonio and we have a Photo Stylus 825 for 125USD. It's nice and we have the Cartridges for 18 something USD for Color and 22 something USD for the black. I think the six ink color cart. is great for photos. If you make a lot of 4"x6" prints a dye sub printer is the way to go. -

Quote: Quote: Well you could change your printer to a Epson Stylus Photo 900 printer. It can print on cd's as well as print your documents. Now there is an idea, got a new digital camera now so want a better one then my C82. Well I would do that if it wasn't for the fact that I have a fairly new C62. -

fx go5200... big problem with textures and framerate
Copernicus replied to Tolden's topic in Hardware
An FX 5600 is great. My dad has an MSI FX 5600 128 MB card and it's great. The MSI package is nice, but it can be a bit more expensive than other FX 5600 cards like Albatron. -
FantomCD is great.

I guess I could do you the favor of Making a CD copy of SP4 Network(Downloaded it earlier). -
Pioneer's are great, but I now have a Mitsumi DVD-ROM and it's nice. It's quiet and fast(16x DVD 50x CD). It happens to be an ATA-100 drive. Mitsumi just started making DVD-ROM's and DVD writers recently. I got this one from newegg.com for $33.00.

Well at least Opteron's are multi-processor(more than 2 processors). Also, the RISC based processors that Apple has been using has allways seem to lack in raw power. There more like a really weak SPARC or MIPS processor. I figure once the Athlon64 come out in numbers, the use of 64 bit software will increase rapidly.
-
Hmm, I would not use the Hyperion Drivers on that older chipset. The hyperion drivers were desinged for chipsets like the KT 400.
-
If your going to put in a DVD-ROM, get the Mitsumi DM-2000TE. Put that DVD-RW(Pioneer A05) in either a USB 2.0 Enclusure or a IEEE-1394 enclusure. That is if your only going to use that DVD Writer in Win2000 or XP. I personally liking the 44x Yamaha CD-RW better than the Plextor 52x CD-RW.
