well, these registry-extensions for explorer are one thing. However, another thing is the settings of folder-options and the use of skins. if you use skins and enabled all these new fancy web-behaviour (which sucks and ist totally useless imho), then 15-20mb of memory used (or should i say wasted?) by explorer is normal. btw: there is at least one process of explorer always running: the desktop environment itself. it uses about 8mb atm (peak @ 30mb). and all other processes of explorer use about 500kb atm only (peak @ 10mb). however, i disabled quite a lot of these unnecessary features (even mouse-shadow and such stuff). and finally, what helped a lot is to disable all unwanted services. gn8 folks! But if I forward the '.avi' extension to 'divxfile' the delay appears just like '.avi' points to 'avifile'. What's wrong? Does anybody know? I don't want to rename all my avi-movies into divx. I know Windows XP does something when just selecting avi-files cause CPU usage goes up to 100% and it takes quite some time to display time, date and filesize in the status-bar of Explorer. Sucks or not. Well, this depends on what you want to do with your computer. Win95 sucks. Win98 sucks. WinME sucks even more than 95 and 98 together. And Win98SE sucks if want to do more than one thing at once. No matter what, but even on a very sleek Win98SE system (with is definitivly faster than any comparable WinXP system) it is nearly impossible to surf, chat, listen to mp3s, manage more than 3 Word or Excel documents at once while running a small http/ftp server in background. I mean Win9xMe never had anything to do with multi-tasking in any way. However, Win98SE is the most stable & fastes Windows which is not based on the NT kernel. I use WinXP Pro and Win98SE on the same machine. Since I don't need NTFS at all, I use Win98SE to defrag (with SpeedDisk 2001) the XP disk and for some kind of emergency- & backup-system. Well, I boot Win98SE maybe three times a year (if ever) since I use O&O Defrag Pro for XP, which runs smoothly in background allowing me to continue working. However I noticed that O&O Defrag Pro is just like any other defrag program for WinXP, too, somehow not as efficient as the defrag programs for Win9xMe. I don't care as long as everything runs stable & fast enought for me. btw: does anybody know how to get rid of this stupid delay when accessing avi-files on WinXP??? This drives my crazy sicne I have to wait about 4-5 seconds (sometimes even more) after clicking on a movie file before XP allows me to open, move or delete it. And this sucks!!! ;( However, mpeg-files do not seem to have this problem. Greets, ACiD StOUt

I'm running 40.72 on a GF2Ultra on WinXP Pro. Very stable and faster than the 30.82 for me, and I got a really old machine (ask me if you want something to laugh). However, I noticed that since 30.xx the monitor cannot be set to standby anymore. This is really annoying. ;( Any version before 30.xx and the Nvidia drivers which ship with XP have no problem to put the monitor into standby-mode. Does anyone experience the same problem? Sounds like it's broken. Otherwise the OS should at least identify that the unknown USB device is a mouse. Since I have the same mouse I know that even Win98SE is able to identify the Logitech Mouseman Wheel as a generic wheel mouse; no matter if it's plugged in the PS/2 or USB port. AFAIK broken PS/2 devices cannot be found by the system. But normally broken USB devices will be found due to the USB specifications. Well, however, your Mouseman is 3 years old and so warranty-period is likely over. Seems like you need a new mouse. Regards, ACiD StOUt

Hi there! Yes, I got this joypad, too. And yes, I got it running on WinXP Pro with the default driver which comes with the OS (6-button joystick with POV, thrust, paddles, ...). But since this driver does only support the basic functions of the Zykon Virtual Twister, you can use the normal d-pad, 4 buttons (button 5+6 are instant fire of buttons 1+2), thrust, paddles and the coolie hat (= motion-sensor technology works fine) only. You cannot program any buttons since the software needed for that purpose is installed together with the Win9x driver and will likely not run on WinXP. Also I noticed on Win98SE with DirectX 8.0 or greater that the Twister control-panel and activator keeps crashing. Note: this does only happen with DirectX 8.0 or greater; DirectX 7 works fine.
