Problems with Service Pack 2 to Windows XP
belto replied to michaeljbrooks's topic in Everything New Technology
i am a beta tester and sp2 has had no problems except in the beginning and it would conflist with MSN Software but they since fixed it. maybe you computer has a lot programs that sp2 will not allow to run because of the risks associated with them, did you try any of your programs? or did you try again and get the express install file because it is available now or go to windows update site? -
I do not know if a question like this hase been posted but it it has been already I do aplogize. My nagginh question is in two parts. SiSoft Sandra (latest version) keeps telling me my memory is PC3200 but it is not, they have since updated but it still reposts my memory wrong? Is there some type of software that will verify that it is Vetista DDR500 (PC4000) in fact and not PC3200's? Thanks for all of your input. Robert...

booting time takes over 4 to 5 minutes

no i do not think so but you are only allowed so many changes with XP and then you have to reactivate. to take you hard drive out and put it back does not really account to nothing much unless you are swapping different hard drives. i guess you can try clearing your cmos and see if that helps. this will clear out all your settings in the bios and you would have to redo everything so write all things in your bios before doing this. or better yet do a complete install of XP. -

i have a silly question, i have also a gigabit with my mainboard but i use it to connect to the interent with my broadband connection but i have to change the speed to 100 full/duplex in order to get the connection to work. is this gigabit intended to be used in wired networks only or do i have to get a faster broadband connection speed?

i would sy go for a pentium 4 with HT enabled. over here in hungary the prices are not that bad but i am expecting a spike after may 1 and it will probably last for about 1-2 months. joining the EU has some of its drawbacks. My processor temp: 38 c constant My system temp: 37 c constant this is with the cooler/heatsink that came with my P4 2.8 HT ready. I have no experience with AMD but my step-fathers is a devotee.

It all depeneds on where you live. If you are in the U.S. then no problem, some parts of Europe has this avialable already but it is mostly MSN8 and not 9/Premium/Plus. This MSN Premium is nice becuase I have it and I like it. They do have some problems sometimes but it is mostly related to their Servers. My suggestion is to just get the Software Only option becuase you can keep your own ISP and if you have Broadband then you are all set to go but they have a feature built in it to use dial-up as well. The Software Only cost $9.95 plus taxes a month, they also have a yearly price as well. Ther are also offering 2-3 months free when you sign up with MSN. Robert...

You are correct, there are many CD cleaners but never, ever use if for a DVD or your will ruin it. There are DVD Cleaners on the market but it is kind of hard to find. Go to a Media Store that specializes in DVD and inquire about this. We have a DVD Cleaner and it is asian but it it multilingual. Robert...

you are allowed 'X' times to make changes within a set time frame (I think it is 6 months but not sure about this) in your PC after that you simply have to reactivate your Windows XP. Now before SP1 this was a pain but after SP1 and SP2 it has been streamlined. I did this completly over the internet without calling to get my new key. If you get a P4 with HT support, fisrt check for new Bios from your MB maker and make sure your MB supports this as well. I just upgraded from P4 to a P4 with HT and windows just installed a special feature and then i had to reboot and that was it, it does not count as two CPU's.

first check MSI for updated Bios, it may be able to help you out, but you have to have a MB that supports Presscott and if I am correct your MB has to be able support Hyper Threading. IF not then just buy a newP4 but make sure your MB supports it. But do check for a new Bios and you will now of your MB new features.

Go to Maxtor website and download MaxBlast3. Attach your new SATA HD, then launch MaxBlast3 and it will detect your new SATA HD and it will ask you to prepare your HD for use, then choose additional storage device. Unless you formatted it already and then use the options available. You have to have the SATA HD attached to your computer in oder for MaxBlast3 to work. I have two Maxtor SATA HD on my PC and Windows XP Pro installed flawlessly. Robert... ps... i hope this helps

try reinstalling it and take it from there.

you only need SP1a then install SP3. that is for o2k anyhow.. belto... Quote: You're already running SP2? Unlike Windows SP when it comes to office you have to install each SP in turn. E.g You cannot patch from Office2k, or Office2k SP1 to SP3. You need to be running Office2k SP2 to upgrade to SP3.
