The problem lies with trying to get Win98,98SE or Me to join a workgroup/domain with a W2k/XP master browser. ~IT is well documented and has many items that can cause it. One can be the XP machine always checking for shared printers AND scheduled tasks.

you have no chance in getting a corp serial for xpp. the disks are to be used with the licences issued by mircosoft to the corporation who has bulk bought them in probably microsofts assurance scheme. you are not legally entitled to use the Corp edition

A half decent games pc setup with either an ati radeon or geforce based card is more than powerful enough for 3d modelling

yer dood i agree with what your saying. NT4 Server was the best at the time. I work with nt4 on a daily basis alongside W2k servers and as a file server or print server its just about bearable. but multimedia just aint possible. For one it doesnt know what all the addons for latest directx are let alone plug and play. The question he posted asked which one would be best and W2k server or w2k still wins in my book nt4 should be retired gracefully its well past its sell by date. Besides MS have now stated that post sp6a patches will not be followed up so thats it basically dead due to worms and trojans and such like. may you rest in peace old os

transferring a win2k install on a new box.
Mando replied to bug_666's topic in Customization & Tweaking
it spossible dood but whenever ive tried the system hasnt been the most stable. I prefer a clean install evvery once in a while anyway so it doesnt really bother me as ive got my mp3s and divx etc and games/apps on seperate partitions -
if you have the users setup in groups within your active directory you can assign the authorised users etc of any object or container within active directiory. This goes for printers also if you have chosen to publish them in the active directory. This would save you loooooooooooads of time 8) :x

Dood W2k wins hands down NT4 is old crap and as stable as a jello. may NT4 rot in pieces hehehe did you know it doesnt know what plug and play is :| never mind USB. Its that cack that even if you install an external modem via a com port you have to restart NT4 after installing it.... WTF! I know because i still provide support for two NT4 servers and 10 NT4 WS clients (die ye bassas) all rest of my domain at work is W2k including PDC and PBC, nt4s are print and AV servers. :x
