WinXP and automatically logging in question
TheSam replied to pr-man's topic in Everything New Technology
You can also type "control userpasswords2" in Start/Run and uncheck "a username and a password must be entered to access this computer" (or something similar). When you try to close the window you will be asked to enter which account to automatically login to. -
This might not be what your looking for, but have you considered just using a Knoppix CD so you can access Linux and "hdparm"?

I'm sure that in a moment people will start replying with stuff I didn't think of. But until then, I would check for SpyWare with SpyBot (http://security.kolla.de/). Just be sure to read what it does so you don't delete anything important!

Hi everyone! Does anyone of you know of a program with which I could see what files a certain program is using while it's running? I want to clean up the computer from unused DLLs Thanks, Sam

http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/powermax.htm Like APK said, Maxtor seems to have what you're looking for

Have you tried installing Internet Connection Sharing? It should do what you want
-
Shouldn't be a problem, just make sure that you that all the computers can communicate with eachother (test by pinging them) and then choose LAN Game.

Would you really gain that much? From my experience glide wrappers give less fps than the real thing so D3D might give you better results.

Thank you all for the help and URLs, I'll check them out. At least one of them should be what I'm looking for

Hi everyone I have an ABIT SR7-8X motherboard and a Logitech Wheel Mouse Optical with a PS/2 adapter. When I turn off the computer I find that the mouse light is still on and the mouse is active. I could turn this off with a jumper on my other computer but there doesn't seem to be one on this. I've disabled all the power-on options in the BIOS. Thanks for you time

Hi everyone! A friend and I ordered parts for a complete computer each from the same store. The components were the same too, except that I ordered 512 MB Ram, he ordered 256 I assembled my system and it worked on the first boot-up, I'm typing this on it now. But my friends computer is different. He assembled it, and everything seems assembled correctly, later today I'll take everything apart and put it back together, just to make sure The problem is that when I push the power-on switch the fans starts running and the computer starts to boot, but the monitor that's connected doesn't react at all. The monitor was tested with another computer and it works, and the new computer was tested with another graphics card, and that didn't work. I don't hear any beeps from the PC speaker at boot-up. The fan on the graphics card is running, so it seems to be getting power. All the cables from the power supply are connected, but the card doesn't work even if I remove everything from the motherboard except the two P4 power cables, the processor, the graphics card and the RAM. I've cleared the CMOS too. Does anyone have any tips on how to get it to show something on the monitor? (I don't have a PCI card to test with ) The specs: Abit SR7-8X motherboard TwinMos 256MB/512MB DDR pc2700 RAM Pentium 4 533 mhz 2,4 GHz Creative GeForce4 Ti4200 64 MB Graphics card On-board sound On-board LAN Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 80GB Hard Drive LG DVD-ROM Sony Floppy Drive

My friend tried running the motherboard outside of the case but that didn't work either, so he contacted the shop. They'll probably make him send all of the components back so they can test them too, so in one way or another, his problem will be solved sometime later He's been using his old computer in the same outlet he tried using the new one in for a couple of years, so I don't think that's the problem Before posting this I had no idea there were so many things that could make a motherboard boot up strangely

The system is new We tested with another graphics card in the computer and that graphics card worked in an other computer before and after. The PC speaker doesn't emit any beeps, and as I said I have a similiar system, and in that the PC speaker works like it should, beeping once when I turn the power on and many times when I play my old DOS games The RAM is the right way and the white things and the end of the slot snaps together. There isn't a visible setting for setting the volt amount but mine works and we live in the same country and city. We checked the screws and they aren't too big. The paper idea sounds strange, but I'll ask him to try it out Again, thanks for all the help .
-
Whoops, sorry Jimf43, of course I appreciate your help too The screws seemed alright, and we got a real life second opinion too, a guy he knews checked it out, and he agrees with the motherboard opinion. I'll tell my friend about the screws so he can check it more thorough.

Thanks for all the suggestion. I told him about them and he tried with everything except power, RAM, and VGA and everything except power and VGA. The monitor didn't do anything. I think you're right about the motherboard, BladeRunner.

It goes off when I use it with the usb port, so maybe I should do that. I have Windows 2000, so that shouldn't be a problem. I guess I have to use the USB port or find some easy way of turning off the power of the computer. Thanks for your help

Quote: All I can tell you is that that I was able to use my Kensington VideoCAM (model 67014) in Windows XP. I have confirmed that the camera is fully functional in both TWAIN interface and VFW interface. It took me some driver mixing to get the camera drivers to work properly in Windows XP. The bad news is that upgrading the firmware will make your camera inoperable to Linux and Windows 9x. It is possible to change the Linux drivers to make your camera work properly. This is a quote from: http://www.geocities.com/trypt0/videocamsupport.html This is what I could find, I hope it helps

Have you tried RefreshForce? http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rf/

I did a clean install of XP onto a newly formatted c:. Installation works fine but when I get to the screen that says "Please use the next few minutes to configure Windows"(translated from Swedish) my computer suddenly reboots. After that I can't enter XP the ordinary way or in fail-safe mode. I think this has something to do with my graphics card, since I changed it since the last time I installed XP, and that time it worked like it's supposed to. The Computer: Pentium IV 2,5 GHz 256 MB RAM Asus P4B Motherboard ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon PCI 32mb I would be really thankful if someone could give me a solution to this problem.

Thanks a lot for the tips, the BIOS version is what the motherboard was shipped with, 1012, and the latest version on the ASUS homepage is also 1012. I tried the repair option but it didn't work. I would try the thing with the graphic card but I decided to reinstall 98SE on the computer instead since I needed to do some work on it right away, I will save XP for the computer I'm going to buy later instead. Again, thanks for trying to help me!
