1. Run SFC to see if any system files got corrupted. 2. Reinstall / Update IE. 3. Uninstall and Reinstall you TCP/IP Stack. Any possible firewall or 3rd part network applications still running on this old laptop? How are IE's security settings? Can you browse the web with other browsers?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services Lists all startup services and device drivers. I dont have an NT4 machine handy, but your cmosa driver should be listed there. You can pass silent registry entries using a login script and regedit /s myreg.reg. HTH -
Quote: I'm trying to promote a Windows Server 2003 server to become an Active Directory controller on an existing Windows 2000 network Another point Did you run ADPREP.EXE on your existing Windows 2000 DC to extend the schema from 13 to 30 (version numbers here). ADPREP is on the win2003 cd in the i386 CD. EDIT I corrected the above version numbers..... it was reading 13 for both numbers. It has now been corrected. My apologies.

Mr G. Thanks for that tip, I took a look on my Antec and its rated at 250 for the 3.3 + 5v. Brian Frank The FastTrak TX2 is a pull from another machine, so I wont be using SATA just yet. And you are correct sir, I did get a 400 MHz Barton so I will be using the 3200 Ram .... 512 ... and I dont mind spending the extra 20-30 bucks for corsair. I am still thinking about the video card ..... APK I got your email and I will checking out those tools. I am curious if they will run on a virtual machine thats NT4 SP3 .... gonna put them to the test , oh and the basketball fan in me loved the spudd web analogy Enjoy your weekend man, today is the last day of an end-user migration. I am soooo getting a beer at 5:00

Nothing to worry about Be sure you know sysprep and its uses. Get an examcram2 book to read and go over the finer points. But as long as you have used this product intimately since its release, you should be ok.

A couple of things come to mind? 1. DNS setup as AD integrated with Dynamic Updates being allowed? 2. If not stop and restart the Netlogon service on the working DCs to recreate SRV records in DNS. 3. Correct IP addresses, including DNS? 4. Event log information would be great to diagnose errors? 5. Did you run nltest and other AD verification tools found on the win2003 cd under support tools Windows 2003 Deployment Guide http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsnetserver/evaluate/cpp/reskit/default.asp http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324753 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;816106 This should get you started.

About the 3com equipment: A lot of the core switch and local switch components are no longer supported. 1100, 3300, Net and Core Builders, and several of our access concentrators needed to be replaced due to the the above issue. Just so ya know .... -
Advice on a Switch / Hub?? - need to buy one
DS3Circuit replied to Mr.Guvernment's topic in Slack Space
Firstly, good call on purchasing a switch. This will isolate broadcast traffice per vlan, thereby increasing the amount of available bandwidth. In the market for something with a CatOS? Cisco 2900s and/or 2900XL should meet your needs. Both are great for access layer connectivity, support STP, 802.11q, 802.11p, etherchannel, ISL, and so on. Some of the 2900s also support multilayer switching. 2900XL come with 24 port 10/100 2900 come with24/48 port 10/100 If your budget doesnt encompass Cisco, Dell PowerConnects have received an honorable mention from those in my group. And of course, if this is more of a SOHO thing, Linksys and Netgear are ok as well. Please feel free to ask if I have missed something. -
Got a lot to respond to, so bare with me SAPIENS: Thank you for the Corsair memory tip. I will be sure to put that on the list, and see how it budgets vs Crucial memory. Only reason I am going with all those drives is that I already own a Sony 16X DVD ROM as well as a Pioneer AO5 DVD-RW Drive. The burner will be brand new .... a little excentric Copernicus: Thanks for the tip about putting the Pioneer in a DVD enclosure .... firewire all the way .... gonna have to go price La Cie and their competitors. Yamaha burner ehh? And I thought Plextor was the best .... gonna go take another look. Mezron: This is not completely for Doom3 ... this is more along the lines of. I have been sitting in front of a MacG4 for the past 2 months at home without a PC. (Converted my workstation into a test server ... company wont give me anything to take home ... ) Macs are nice and all, but this is getting a little ridiculous. Clutch: I have always been a fan of the underdog lol .... besides I agree that VIA chipsets leave much to be desired, reason why I went with the nvidia based system. This event has been in the making since I changed another workstation into an exchange 2003 test box. Tignat: Thanks for PS advice, if i get those lockups you mention, i will remember to add a better PS. Maybe then an Enermax 400+. And yes I got 2 extra 80mm case fans. ViolentGreen: As of writing this post, I have decided on a Barton 3000. When the first post was made, I wasnt sure of what to acquire. APK: Troublemaker! LOL .... at any rate .... I agree with you about the video card. I think I will stick to an nvidia solution since you and so many others are their proponents. Ack @ never thought I would spend 300 to 400 bucks on a card. This better kick some butt . Very nice suite of utilities, I must add. It even works well on an old K6-2 system with a Riva128 card. Hope the new job is coming along well and about the car .... good deal man. ConQueso: Yeah its a sweet case and a good board ... revision 2 I might add. Dunno why they call it bronze either lol Thank you all for your advice and critiques. I always appreciate the experience of others. I will be sure to return the favor in these forums. Whewww, thats a long post.

ECC and parity block checks are 2 different things. Parity blocks are either 0 or 1 ... on or off. Granted this is a a good quality of control agent. But what if the data and parity blocks are corrupt. ECC adds additional information about the parity as well as the data blocks. 2 cents. ...

beginner needs help with dual booting!
DS3Circuit replied to kycolonel42276's topic in Everything New Technology
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;289283 The above link will give you the beliefs that MS has on Dual Booting. In regards to breaking up your physical disk into logical partitions, I would suggest: 1 for win98 1 for win2000 1 for data (mp3s, docs) Partition magic will work for non-destructive partitioning of your machine. Fdisk being the destructive partitioning utility. Remember to keep your file system fat32 and not NTFS, as well as Basic disks. Install 98 then 2000, if not, you will need to repair the NTloader. Also in regards to your system backup partition, ntbackup will work to different logical drives, though software such as ghost to require a separate physical disk to backup systems. HTH -
And for those who need a working link for crc.exe http://home.online.no/~msols/CRC.zip

Corrupt download? Have you tried extracting the file with winzip and running the update.exe manudally? NTFS permissions on the drive not standard?

This is a warning to all other Blackberry Administrators. Cingular has been migrating their database of users in the Northeast and apparently lost records of who has paid for services and who has not. (This was given to me from one of the sales reps at Cingular) I have been fighting with CDW, Cingular, and Blackberry for the last 10 days to restore service to our 957 RIMs. Anybody play with the new NEXTEL phones that include wireless email, I wish to move my users to another platform if possible. *End of Rant*

What policies do you wish to view? Domain Controller Domain Local The correct security policies are displayed in the Administrative Tools. And can be fully installed using the ADMIN.MSI found in the i386 folder on the 2003 CD. If you just wish to view policies, have you tried the group policy management console, free download from MS. HTH

1. Updated the driver? 2. Tried another port on your switch/hub? 3. Tried another cable? 4. Tried another NIC? Sounds like a physical thing ..... not really software related.
