Mr. G This was heavily covered by apk, clutch, and myself about a month or so ago. I would recommend searching through the message board. Browstat.exe and Browmon.exe are you tools for debugging browsing issues. To set a preferred browse master http://is-it-true.org/nt/registry/rtips15.shtml I would begin with this. Also have you tried creating a LMHOSTS file? -

You can accomplish most of everything that you wish to do through Local Group Policies (if this is a workgroup environmet), NTFS permissions, and if you need to isolate them further ... here are links to some 3rd party applications. www.deepfreezeusa.com www.fortres.com HTH -

Well lets start with a couple of things ... 1. Are there excessive programs loading upon initial startup? 2. Is this Windows 2k SP3 with all the latest hotfixes? 3. Anything in the event logs? 4. The virus Klez has been known to do this .... are you running AV, with the latest definitions? have you scanned your machine? 5. Is it profile specific ... as in, when you login as a new user does the sympton travel with the newly created profile? 6. Zone Alarm has also been known to cause this issue ... since winlogon.exe controls a users ability to login and log off. 7. Have you "hacked" this system file with a replacement? There, ... that should get you started. G'luck

LMAO .... now that was good APK Quote: How DARE you turn these guys onto some GUI-easy stuff, lol... spoiling them in that manner, robbing them of the "joy" of becoming TRUE NERDS, that hack the registry in geek fashion? (Shame on you, & a few posts back you told me you took your "nerdism" seriously!!!) If you have ever seen the users that I "attend to" then you would be more then willing to encourage them to use a GUI and not the CLI or Regedit .... man ... its scary when I get the call "I need another folder in my Word, can you make it for me?" ....... sorry, just recalling a late friday afternoon. Laterz Ohh, figured I would share this for a laugh, enjoy! http://chroniclesofgeorge.nanc.com/ -

An AD environment would use the same technique. 2. Login as a user with those privileges HTH -

Are you doing this from the win2k install or the XP install? What I am leading to is msiexec wasnt upgraded until win2k sp3 and windows xp ... perhaps there is a conflict between the installer and the actual service. start / run / msiexec should say 2.0 for the above mentioned. The service might also need to be restarted as APK pointed out. Also are there any errors in the Event Viewer?

Quote: workstations so thay can add them onto the domain Is a security policy Delegation of Control Wizard well lock down Active Directory Access. As silver-dagger pointed out, you can create a second global group to have local admin access to the machines, but this group to have limited domain access. Adding that global group to the local machine adminstrators group can be done through VB scripts such as addusers.vbs or again group policies.

APK ... Quote: IF I have a watch that runs, I don't bother fix it! Ahhh a man who doesnt believe in having "bleeding edge" technology .... our employer believes in having the "latest and the greatest" and suffer the repercussions later. Pretty good double edged sword ....
