How do I make a script that will...

Quote: How do I make a script that will restart my computer automatically say every monday morning As long as the Task Scheduler Service is running You can script an entire reboot using the commands AT and the shutdown.exe resource kit tool (native in XP). It shouldnt take more then one or 2 lines for a batch file. Still it is easier to use the GUI portion of the task scheduler and just copy and paste the task where it is needed. HTH

  4. Infared is a division of wireless networking If you mean more along the lines of 802.11 then that is different from infared ... perhaps the drivers for your wireless device do not yet support .NET ... have you tried the latest ones or contacting the manufacturer? Is the wireless configuration service running? Double check your wireless nic configs ... WEP ESSID and so on ...

    soccers compatibility

NT 4 "supports" Direct X 3 and version 5 through 6.1 in hacked ways. What direct X version do these soccer games require? Have you updated your video driver? Have you considered an OS upgrade?

    MS Security Guide Scripts Download

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...;DisplayLang=en Quote: These scripts are part of the Security Operations Guide for Windows 2000 Server, Security Operations Guide for Exchange 2000 Server, and Operating .NET Applications, which you should read before using these scripts. The guide provides how-to instructions for system administrators to use after a Windows 2000-based server is up and running, and is part of the Windows Secure Technology Protection Program (STPP). If you are responsible for maintaining a secure Windows 2000-based server or Exchange 2000 Server, these guides are for you.
  9. Quote: next step, is to get a good size one going & then maybe even merge it with lists others have & create a HUGE one others can use as well! Rules can only be about 32KB maximum in size. This in turn is about 50 rules. This is primarily an exchange environment. From then on, all your rules will be client executed and not kept on the server. And from what I know OE and OutlookXP rules dont convert over. IN outlook XP its under .... tools \ rules wizard \ options ... then you can import and export rules all you want. Sorry about all the posts, but I have ran into this wall before and wanted to keep you from running into it

  12. Quote: Use Outlook to manage junk and adult content e-mail Outlook can search for commonly used phrases in e-mail messages and automatically move messages containing these phrases from your Inbox to either a junk e-mail folder created by Outlook, to your Deleted Items folder, or to any other folder you specify. You can find the list of terms that Outlook uses to filter suspected junk e-mail messages in a file called Filters.txt, located in the C:\Program Files\MicrosoftOffice\Office10\LocaleID folder, where LocaleID is the locale identifier (LCID) for your installation of Microsoft Office. For example, the LCID for English - United States is 1033. For a list of LCIDs, see Microsoft Office Help. You can also filter messages with a list of senders of junk and adult content e-mail. As you receive unwanted e-mail messages, you can create a list of the e-mail addresses of these senders. When you first begin using these features or when you make modifications to them, you should review messages that are automatically removed from the Inbox to make sure that any wanted messages are not accidentally removed. To RAID or not to RAID?

I wouldnt move a swap file to any sort of RAID array .... Even though RAID0 is fast on reads, you still need to write temporary data to 2 disks .... if this was raid5 it would be easier to say no ... as why would you need parity data for temporary data ... I dont believe you will see much of a loss or gain if or when the pagefile.sys is moved .... just my 2cents

    XP Networking (Internet connection)

ISDN ... interesting ... any reason why a home user would require this over DSL or Cable .... just looking at this from a cost effective solution. ICS is one solution as stated ... there are numerous proxy applications at downloads.com to do what you require, including AutoDial and so on, that is if your ISDN requires that ....

XP or 2K- Ok now which to you like?

Corporate Environment = win2k SOHO users = Winxp Just from the experience I have gathered. Though more and more I am moving towards MacOS X for my personal machines ....
  17. http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/recommended/TSAC/default.asp And heres a web client that allows you to run terminal services without the 32 bit client ... it does require that you install an active x component .... its rather sweet. Requires II4 or higher. Figured I would throw this out there as well. APK watcha think of Citrix TS? Is it comprable or superior to 2000? Our shop has eliminated most UNIX severs/clients, and I wanted a reason to bring them back.
  18. besides what I said, do what APK also states His experience in this subject clearly shows.
  19. You wish to run applications on a Windows 2000 Terminal Server? Then install the terminal server client, 16 or 32 bit. You can create the necessary floppies from the 2000 server by either 1. ADMINPAK.MSI from the win2k server cd in the I386 CD. 2. From a network share (you create) from the %systemroot%\winnt\system\clients\tsclients 3. Download the new client that support RDP 5.1 that includes 16bit terminal services colors ... though that only functions on .NET and XP Here is a good resource to to get you started with terminal services on win2k, www.labmice.net .Also Application Mode requires a license from MS, otherwise it will cease to function after 90 days. Oh, and one more thing .... No shortcuts

microsoft outlook (not express) contact forms

This is the best that I can do from what I gathered with your posting. Prob 1: Under Properties of the Contacts folder and under the Forms tab, does manipulating the associated forms, correct anything? Prob 2: Does Exporting under the old form as a CSV and importing it again into the new form fix anything? Sorry that I am not able to test nor duplicate anything at the moment.
  21. Did you make an Emergency Recovery Disk from NTBACKUP? This disk is non bootable. Did you boot off the CD and try the emergency repair process? the recovery console commands including FIXBOOT and FIXMBR. If the drive is still fat32, have you ran a dos SCANDISK? I would also run hardware diagnostics on the HD. You may also do a parallel installation of Win2k to move all your data, from the corrupt installation to the new one. These are just some of the possibilities that may fix your situation. G'Luck
  22. Been working with it since NT 4 Terminal Server ..... do you still have a problem?

    Windows XP DHCP

0.0.0.0 is a legitamate IP address in the sense that it is actually a broadcast sent by a DHCP client as part of thr DHCP Discover. as follows. The first time a DHCP client computer attempts to log on to the network, it requests IP address information from a DHCP server by broadcasting a DHCPDiscover packet. The source IP address in the packet is 0.0.0.0 because the client does not yet have an IP address. The message is either 342 or 576 bytes long—older versions of Windows use a longer message frame. In other words, your machine is trying to obtain an IP address. In regards to switching between Native and Mixed Mode for your environment, I see no compeling reason ATM. ISA server is running on the DC? If so and if its multihomed, then the inside nic should have NO default gateway. If the modem is configured as a dial out, then the inside nic still doesnt need a gateway. This is where I get lost in this thread .... Your DC/ISA server does its own DNS? Does it use root hints or forwarders? Forwarders would probably be more efficient in the scenario. Have you tried another NIC? I have encountered that malfunctioning NICs can cause only a partial DHCP process .... only doing some of the 4 required steps to get a lease. 169.254 for an internal network should only be used for diagnostic testing and not necessarily the IP standard for your network. Just my opinion for that. If there is anything that I didnt explain clearly or I am missing something, feel free to ask.

    upgrade nt to xp home

I would check the HCL for winxp and your machine. The hardware requirements between NT and XP are rather substantial and you would most certainly want the most bang for your buck. IE NT workstation supports 2 physical cpu and XP Home doesnt .... just figured I would bring this up.
