several problems i have a ata 133 raid card with 2 60 gig ata 100 hard drives 1 blistering fast speed as a floppy 2 there is no dma mode available, do i need it? 3 is there anyway to check the actual speed to know if its even working right? 4 its not a missing driver problem because without the driver on the cd installed, the hard drives will not run at all. however it does in 98, some sort of compatibility mode, but i no longer use 98 anyway. 5 i cant run ANY disk checking programs, EVEN NORTON. and yes ive tried to boot into safe mode and do it, and even removed all starting programs, etc. etc... its not that. unless there is some harddrive protection service that i dont know about i suspect that it may be a service that keeps me from checking my drive or a really really bad driver for the ata card it did work in 98 tho, why not 2000 i dont know. services? 6 Silicon Image SiI 0680 Ultra-133 Medley ATA Raid Controller is the card 7 ST360020 A SCSI Disk Device WDC WD60 0AB-22CBA0 SCSI Disk Device those are what windows says my hard drives are. and no they are not scsi 8 yes i am very irate 9 i have 512 mb of ram, so its not a swap file issue

The fix for Windows XP not letting you delete .avi
pr0iv2 posted a topic in Everything New Technology
i found this at another forum, but its good advice. 1 problem, how do you do this in 2000? anybody? I've seen this coming up more and more all over the place so I figured I'd stick it here. Avi files (divx) can be trouble in xp. there is a fix to let xp behave much better so it's possible to move or delete large avi files. The obnoxious bug in XP that causes Explorer to read the entire contents of broken AVI files before allowing any access to them is caused by bad behavior of shmedia.dll. To correct this misbehavior in Windows XP, remove the following registry key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32 This will prevent Explorer from loading shmedia.dll in response to file property queries on these files. Just an extra note, if you do a "search" for this key it will not be found, look for it manually it is very easy to find. As always newbie or not, if you FUBAR your registry its your own fault. This fix does work, I use it and have applied it to many XP machines. Now go ahead and fix this royal pain in the ass! -
no vesa problem: to fix this make sure it runs in full screen if you do a custom fix with the VDMSound advanced options its in there and that option is in win2k too if you right click and go to properties speed problem: dont use VDMSound, use soundFX also you may want to try http://www.scitechsoft.com/products/enterprise/free_titles.html univbe was used in a lot of dos stuff (its in display doctor too) maybe the newer version will work for dos stuff in 2k PLUS THE OLD STUFF IS NOW FREE!!!!! even if you dont need it, download it anyway you cant pass up free software! there is no more support for it though also if anyone knows why both sound programs crash ROTT, and duke nukem 3d, and shadow warrior tell me

Duhmez, have you thought about filing a bug report with Microsoft? Hopefully those issues could/would be addressed in a future SP... Quote: very good idea -

which is best to run... 16 or 32 bit color?
pr0iv2 replied to doniej's topic in Everything New Technology
if you have a voodoo card in 16 bit its as good as 32 bit not anything else though i had a nvdia card and in 16 bit could notice a horrible pattern in my game textures, and yes it is in all nvdia cards, and the pattern is deliberate. dont believe me? play unreal tournament, turn up the brightness to max, and look at a dark corner/dark simple texture. no company nowadays even tries to make 16 bit color good now they're cheapening 32bit so you have to buy the geforceFX that has 128bit color ugh, video card companies piss me off -
how can i make my desktop icons clear and small without using third party software or going into appearance settings and changing icon size that icon size is not the "small" icon im referring to. is there a registry setting? im using 2000 also what about translucent taskbar and alpha settings? i know 2000 has some sort of support for that stuff and whatever happened to tweakui 2k? as far as i know theres only a beta that no longer will activate all i can find is tweakXP and Tweakui 1.33 which is not tweakui 2k

well the hard drives are ST360020 A SCSI Disk Device WDC WD60 0AB-22CBA0 SCSI Disk Device and they are different brands plus i am not running raid because i got the card after i had the hard drives and i didnt want to reinstall about 80 gigs of my files after formatting and partioning, etc, etc. i got the latest driver, helped about 10% i still cant use scandisk in 2000 (drives in use) i do think there should be a speed boost from onboard ata33 ide to a new raid ata 133 card thats all im wondering... 2000 doesnt detect my drives as IDE it says theyre SCSI its not SCSI though maybe theres a generic SCSI driver i have to get?
