Get It A Week Early My Butt

Used BitTorrent well before this thread, was getting 16 Kb or so. Its probably faster now then it was a couple days ago though. After 3 full days and Flashget, I finally got it. The second link you posted is dead, I assume RedHat is squashing any mirrors, as their own downloads are cached and for subscribers only. Oh well, this sort of execution is to be expected from a company who only ships their items like tshirts, mousepads, etc., UPS Second Day Air, then takes 2 weeks to actually fill the order. I sent them an email to inform them of my displeasure of the handling of this and have not heard back. Go figure. Microsoft must be worried

Get It A Week Early My Butt

Anyone actually get it? All day long at 20 kb with Flashget and gave up last night, this morning Flashget says file size has changed, so back to square 1. Glad I paid to get it a week early, wish they would have told me they meant it would take a week to download it

Get It A Week Early My Butt

RedHat 9.1, 168 hours to go... Oddly enough, about a weeks time to download... FTP on RedHat is even worse, why release it if theres no mirrors, this isnt an advantage, its frustration. I got 90 megs in on one disk using FlashGet and it stopped. Once again, these guys need to learn to market better or Linux will remain right where it is as far as desktop market is concerned. Most desktop\home users dont want to be bothered. Sorry, I am sick of paying money and not getting what I paid for (cant download RedHat, Lindows still wont run on my pc, etc). Good old Windows is chugging along fine though
  6. Been round and round and round and I think round again and have decided to spend some qulaity time with Suse. Main reason being it appears to be an OS that a Windows user can comfortable migrate to. The install routine is much more "user friendly" then most and then some and I thought the updates and other features were as well. Bought personal edition after trying the test drive of it. Nice package, 3 CDs, 539 page manual and more. Book that size would cost you 20 bucks anyway, so cant complain. Ok, I am off to install, just thought I would share where I ended up and maybe suggest to other newbie types wondering where to start to give SuSe a shot. It does not have the prettiest name or logo, but I liked what I saw. Smiley for no reason:
  7. I have had 2 problems getting it to work and noticed on a few reviews they somehow never tried to use technical support, a large factor in deciding to buy an operating system. My first problem was that I could not get on the net. Lindows would not open the driver files for the Nforce network card. I contacted them and was told, within 24 hours, that I was in a catch 22 situation and to contack the motherboard manufacturer. I am not sure if they wanted me to use Click And Run, but I found Alien myself later, a program that converts the files... My second problem is unsolved. After 4 attempts to install, now on a MSI 6590 motherboard, it hangs each time on "configuring runtime system". Locked solid. I submitted to technical support SIX days ago with no response. This was after reading all the FAQs and trying a few suggestions suggested to me by people in the forums. I also put in a complaint in their forums where they specifically ask for your opinions. As far as I can tell, these guys dont read their own forums much, either, I thought for sure, at the very least, some PR person would try and make me feel all warm and fuzzy So, if your reading this and you review software that requires paying and offers technical support, to always check up on that technical support before completing your review. Many times, poor technical support can ruin an otherwise good piece of software. Thanks for reading.

Narrowing Down My Choice For Linux

Thanks, yeah, got RedHat going no problem, just being a newbie its a little frustrating getting OpenGL and Nvidia drivers going, with Windows its double click and your off. I dont really blame Linux, its just a learning curve. Im actually excited to see the new version, especially RedHat 8.1, I guess Lindows is working on 4.0 now as well, I see you can download the current alpha if your one of the suckers who forked over 299 bucks, not me. I aint paying anyone 299 for an OS, dont mind paying, but you know.. Ill look into Mandrake when it releases.
  9. RedHat seems ok, Lindows seems too dumbed down, how is Lycoris, worth trying?

    Bootable CD1 Of Beta 3?

Anyone else had trouble with the bootable CD? I have downloaded beta 3, cd 1 twice from 2 different sources, and the CD does not match what it says in the readme and is not bootable. Neither is 2 or 3. Actually CD 1 structure is what 2 or 3 should be. If you didnt have a problem, could you pass along a verified download source and ill try it again? Thanks. Update: Found it, the links I downloaded it from were linking to the source files, not the install CD's, duh!
