First time I've come across this problem. The only KB article that came up is Print or Edit Dialog Boxes May Not Appear in Internet Explorer. Maybe of help to you.

Need latest drivers for card with Nvidia Riva TNT2 Chipset.
ross_aveling replied to Chesso's topic in Everything New Technology
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_66.93 The nVIDIA driver set(s) support all nVIDIA video chipsets since the TNT2. -
6600GT without a doubt.
-
The Mustek support site doesn't list XP under it's hardware/software requirements page. But the driver download page for the 1200 CP lists the Windows 2000 drivers as compatible with XP so you'll probably be ok.

Partition Magic 8.0 can do it, and I quote "Converts partitions among FAT, FAT32, and NTFS without losing data." Why would you want to go from NTFS to FAT32 though?

What advantages does Win2k sp4 offer over WinXP sp2 or Sp1?
ross_aveling replied to pr-man's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Of the top of my head; Smaller installation footprint and can run with lower spec hardware IMO, a tendency to run a little bit faster than XP (not including booting up/shutting down) Less baggage; ie, no themes, no dumbed down wizards etc.. And it just feels (again IMO) a little more solid than XP. Lastly, no Bliss wallpaper If course, I've not listed any disadvantages of Windows 2000 (not that there are many). But given the choice, I'd still choose XP over 2000 nowadays. -
Final Fantasy 7 In Win98SE w/Geforce MX 4000
ross_aveling replied to belewfripp's topic in Legacy OS
Apart from making sure you're running the latest drivers for your video card, I'm afraid there's probably not much hope. FF7 came out before anti-aliasing was all the rage, and it's a pain to getting the game running on modern systems at the best of times. -

Not a bad price at all, although the DL limit seems a bit tight. I pay around 30 UK pounds for a 1Mbit service but my ISP will be introducing a 30GB limit in the new year. Alec, how are you surviving with the dial-up now? Would you ever consider going back to broadband? With Valve's Steam requiring large updates pretty frequently you might find it a little difficult when you get round to playing HL2; which reminds me, did you ever find your ATI voucher key?

Lets hope they do a better job with the sequel. Quote: Another important aspect is that which is more important ? single player or multiplayer ? I think you guessed that one. if you check my first review, you can tell that im talking about ''MULTIPLAYER''. Halo 2's multiplayer is BETTER than half-life 2. But im pretty sure there is going to be a new counter strike on the way. Neither aspect is more important IMO, many games ship with single and multiplayer modes so to appeal to as many people as possible; it's all down to personal preference. And how can you compare Halo 2's multiplayer to Half-Life 2, seeing as HL2 doesn't have a multi-player mode as of yet? As for your comments that the PC is rubbish at FPS games, exactly how much exposure have you had to FPS titles on the PC, it would be interesting to know. And just for the record, the greatest online shooter is Unreal Tournament 2004.

Besides, system specs would have helped. Apart from making sure your video drivers are up to date, an easy solution is to download the latest Steam Client and create a new account. Register your Half-Life key with the software and you can download the latest version of Half-Life completely patched and up-to-date.

One of them is probably setup with a [bootable] primary partition. You can only have one primary partition active at a time (usually using a boot menu to choose between them). And this one will of course clash with the primary partition already present in your new computer. If you can get hold of a partition manager (Partition Magic springing to mind) you can convert it to a logical partition or better still merge the contents with another partition; this basically copies everything to a new folder/directory on the destination drive whilst preserving it's contents.

buying new DVD dual-layer burner (there is no Sims2 in this post)
ross_aveling replied to felix's topic in Hardware
I've got an NEC 2510A DVD-RW drive and have had no problems writing dual layer discs; although they're so expensive I've only written one or two. It's an 8x writer, but NEC have replaced it with the 3500A, which can write at 16x. -

(since AD would make it a domain controller). Yes, that is correct. If you only need to have a few TS clients (and you've got a reasonably high spec'ed server) you could run it off a/your DC with no problems. But if the need is for far greater TS clients, then it's best to have a dedicated member server running the WTS duties. EDIT part - Remember that if you are running Windows SBS you cannot have another Domain Controller on the network - any server versions of Windows must attach as member servers. But you probably already knew that .

This is supposed to be able to patch Windows XP (SP1 & SP2) and Windows Server 2003.

Some info. I'm not sure how adding DNS forwarders to "Far Larger Company.com" will affect existing DNS resolutions from your ISP, so be weary. FYI, in Windows Server 2003 you can create a conditional approach to DNS resolution so it will forward requests to the most appropriate DNS server based on the originating domain. Although I don't think this functionality is available in Windows 2000 it's something to think about never the less. Otherwise, zen69x's suggestion should do the trick in the mean time.

I need help backing up a folder that is 7.33gb in size Xp-Pro

Quite correct. You can log into Steam on any PC and play all the games you are entitled to (after downloading them of course). The OP didn't want to have to download nearly 8Gb again though. Also, as for registry keys, all important info about your account roams arounds with you. It only stores certain preferences locally such as auto starting when Windows starts. -

ross_aveling replied to Xaxly24's topic in Software
Can't edit my post :x. Anyhoo, just read a FAQ about backing up Steam games and it will give you the option to size the backup for CD (or DVD). This has nothing to do with MS Backup BTW. My guess is that you'll end up with a bunch of files each at 650-700mb. You can then burn them with your favourite app. -

Xaxly24, is your D: drive your CD writer? XP Backup (and in fact any version of MS Backup) cannot backup straight to CD media. Your only option is to follow jmmijo's slave HD suggestion, otherwise short of buying a dual layer DVD writer (they're really cheap now) create a new, seperate partition on your hard drive that will never get formatted between OS re-installs. BTW - I wouldn't trust a backup consisting of 12 or so CDs, imagine if just one of the disks became unreadable; that's the whole backup trashed. -
VMware Workstation emulates a 'Creative Sound Blaster Audio PCI' sound card. Windows 95 & 98 don't have the necessary drivers to support this card out of the box (Windows 2000 and later have no problem). I've checked Creative's website for an appropriate driver but have been unable to find one (for the moment ). I'll search around and see what I can come up with. For the time being here is VMware's explanation of the problem. EDIT: Apparently the 'Sound Blaster PCI 128' driver should work. You can download it here. Hope it all works out for you.

I've [briefly] used the one included with Visual Studio .NET 2003. Again, it's probably similar (the same?) as those you both mention. I found it works really well and emulates everything perfectly. There are updated OS images availible so you can test against the latest release of Windows Mobile 2003 SE. FYI, here is the page for the SDK.

I can only say HL2. I've not got an XBox so I'll wait for the PC version of Halo 2. I agree completely with Waffler on this. I think above all else, the game is the single most polished release I've played to date. Everything in it exudes quality. Just to mention the physics system. It actually does make things behave like they would in real life. To have to manipulate the environment around you in order to progress through it makes it a worthy inclusion for once. Other games like Max Payne 2 (another one of my favourites btw) have only used physics to give them that extra visual panache, and although it’s still fun shooting bottles off a shelf, HL2 goes far beyond this and has IMO, the best implementation of physics yet. Everything else is up to the same high standard. The graphics and presentation are excellent, the audio (especially the NPC dialogue) is outstanding and the narrative keeps you engrossed. The only bugbear I have with the game is the quite frequent loading delays, but that can’t be helped I suppose. I could have written an essay ‘bigging up’ HL2. Just play it if you haven’t already done so (Steam problems not withstanding) and let the game speak for itself.

I'm surprised no ones posted anything yet. Been playing it here for 5 hours straight. To put it simply..... stunning!

Lets hope they eventually release a patch removing the CD/DVD check, a la UT2004. Quote: From my web surfing and talking with friends it seems that almost everyone is willing to sell their souls for Steam. Good going guys. Thanks. Hey, when you've got no choice, what are you going to do??? Quote: Looks like the activation crack so far involves actually downloading the full game (4+GB) with it included....unsure if an actual cracked executable will show up any time soon. (Doubtful what with steam involved) I hope they release the single .exe soon. I have no qualms applying the crack, I've paid my 27 pounds, Valve have my money. Quote: Went to BB today and saw the CD ver of Half-Life 2 sitting there (5 CD's!!!)....plenty of copies too. Took a peek at the requirements and "Internet Connection Required" is listed on the box. (Doesn't say what for tho. ). Still no Bloodlines .....I did pick up Buffy Season 7 tho (and I didn't even have to authenticate it!!!) so I'm happy. Valve should have made it clear before the launch exactly how (and why) the system works as it does. I'm sure that there are thousands of people who have purchased the game and can't use it; not everyone has broadband do they? Christ, even Microsoft [with WPA] wasn't this arrogant! Quote: Your probably playing the best FPS ever created so enjoy it until Valve no longer exists. Yes we are and yes we will . [Edited by ross_aveling on 2004-11-18 05:02:24]
