Quote: I guess et is just to new, figured it may have been similar to rtcw with some small protocol difference. I've got it going easy really! Just as i thought. What is the protocol? Well quake3 pointrelease 1.32 is protocol 68. 1.31 was 67. how do I find out enemy territory's? Easy record a demo and see what it calls it ! /record demo0000.dm_82 /stoprecord protocol 82!!!! So in XQF you just put this in:- game > options > master protocol version > 82 the master server is:- etmaster.idsoftware.com

thanks buddy There is no new news at XQF since november 2002 I guess et is just to new, figured it may have been similar to rtcw with some small protocol difference.

Quote: Have you tried running Q3 in native Linux mode? It runs at least as fast as it did in Windows, so you'll probably like it a lot better clutch Quake3 Urban terror is said to blow away counter strike dont know cos i've never even seen counter strike! But UrbanTerror ROCKS!

To start with to get any kind off mouse to work properly in quake 3 under mandrake 9.1 your going to need point release 1.32 b This is not the one on the idsoftware webpage. this is a version "b"which came out a few days after the normal version due to sum conflict with newer xfree86 versions.

Good computers with linux gaming. A good combination?
blueworm replied to Tekchip's topic in Linux Games
I have voted no because I would'nt buy an allready built computer. I enjoy building it myself too much, and installing the operating system is the same. There is a shop in internet that sells gaming computers pre installed with gentoo, Sorry cant remenber the link. -
noob: downloading and installing video drivers
blueworm replied to tertullian's topic in Everything Linux
To run a basic grafical enviroment the basic vesa drivers should do. edit XF86Config-4 and change the Section "Device" so that it reads Driver "vesa" To install the kyro drivers:- first make sure u have the correct rpm binarys for your kernel. If you have the driver on a floppy disk insert it and mount it. If you are using redhat dont worry about mounting cos its automatic. cd into /mnt/floppy Code: cd /mnt/floppy now u must install it Code: rpm -ivh whatever.rpm Now your going to need to properly configure XF86Config-4 It is best you follow the instructions in the hercules page. http://ftp.hercules.com/video/linux/KYROBASED/2.00.20.0234/README.txt Basically your going to need to edit XF86Config-4 -
check out: [url= http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc...;module=emu10k1 The instructions for each card are by far the best I've seen. I have Installed 4 different cards on various distributions and the instructions have always been spot on. If you need more detailled help dont hesitate to post.

I think you will find that the corel packages are shipped in 2 formats. .rpm (for redhat) and .deb (for debian). So in your case you will need to login as root and cd into the directory which contains the corel.rpm Code: rpm -ivh whatever_package.rpm

Is it any good and how critical are the bugs? -
You forgot gentoo please add it to your poll. Because as things stand gentoo would be in the lead with 2 votes. It is all the rage now especially amongst gamers! Why I had been using Mandrake 9.0 fancied something new because Mandrake 9.1 in my humble opinion was a step backwards not forwards. (pure marketing) Gentoo is harder to configure, and takes forever to install. but more rewarding. Outstanding support in many languages at www.gentoo.org Very educational.

what information did your isp tell you to write. for example I have to write: pop3.navegalia.com thats for incoming mail. smtp.navegalia.com for outgoing mail. if it is like this you must in the: Sending mail tab > authentication > POP before SMTP

the awnser is yes. I have never used lycoris. But if it is linux everything can be run with more or less effort. If you are new to linux I recomend Mandrake, eventhough I have read that lycoris is very user friendly for novice users. Mandrake is simply more popular and you will find more users in forums that can help you. It is as simple as that.

Most programs come in tarballs in other words source code compressed and packaged with gzip and tar respectively. they usually have the file extension .tgz or .tar.gz . these must first be un-compressed and unpacked. $ tar -zxvf myNewProgram.tar.gz You then cd into the directory created $ cd myNewProgram Inside you will always find a README script $ less README this will tell you the rest. There are oyher ways in which programs are installed but it depends on the distribution you are using some are easier, but this method is common to all linux distributions, and better but more difficult for inexperienced users.

Running an executable in a mounted partition
blueworm replied to Valluvan's topic in Everything Linux
Ok the awnser is puzzling me, but it could be as simple as setting execute permision as root. You can do this by typing su chmod a+x yourFile.sh try doing this: $ echo > test.sh echo "Hello world" $ ./test.sh :bash ./test.sh: Permission denied // this is normal // to execute the script test.sh you have to make the file executable $ chmod a+x test.sh $ ./test.sh Hello world If all this has helped you please read man page chmod. $ man chmod. -
I have been playing quake3 for more than a year in mandrake 9.0 decided to give gentoo a try installed quake3. But mouse does'nt work. Works fine on desktop, no idea Installed mandrake 9.1 the same! Its not the XF86Config-4 because i've tryed several versions of nvidia drivers and XF86Config is the same as I was running before. the last straw installed enemy territory and the mouse works perfectly, what could it be the only common denominator I can see are the 2.4.20 kernel 2.4.21 gentoo and mandrake respectively. where as the mandrake 9.0 kernel is 2.4.19 Beats me!!!!!!!!!! How can mandrake patch a kernel and call it 2.4.21 when the stable vanilla kernel is 2.4.20 ? Marketing!

thanks works, but why?

Mandrake 9.1 is a bit of a nightmare , I installed it last night. Mandrake 9.0 is much more stable. Nevertheless try install 9.1 but dont choose kde or gnome install blackbox and xfree 4.3 once booted then install kde or gnome. Althou for a laptop I use a lightweight window manager like blackbox or fluxbox. Laptops are slower always. (hard drives at 4200 rpm )

edit /etc/fstab where it refers to your cd change from auto to iso9660 the line should read:- none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/hdb,fs=iso9660,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-15depage=850 0 0 you can also do this in the mandrake control centre > mount points > cdrom > type(double click to change) I hope this works for you.

if all else fails you can manually install the card . Its what I have to do inMandrake 9.0 Add the following lines to your /etc/modules.conf alias char-major-89 i2c-dev options i2c-core i2c_debug=1 options i2c-algo-bit bit_test=1 alias char-major-81 videodev alias char-major-81-0 bttv options bttv card=78 options tuner type=1 I'm not sure about the tuner type for this card here is a list of available types. tuner.o type=0 - Temic PAL (4002 FH5) type=1 - Philips PAL_I (FI1246 and compatibles) type=2 - Philips NTSC (FI1236,FM1236 and compatibles) type=3 - Philips (SECAM+PAL_BG) (FI1216MF, FM1216MF, FR1216MF) type=4 - NoTuner type=5 - Philips PAL_BG (FI1216 and compatibles) type=6 - Temic NTSC (4032 FY5) type=7 - Temic PAL_I (4062 FY5) type=8 - Temic NTSC (4036 FY5) type=9 - Alps HSBH1 type=10 - Alps TSBE1 type=11 - Alps TSBB5 type=12 - Alps TSBE5 type=13 - Alps TSBC5 type=14 - Temic PAL_BG (4006FH5) type=15 - Alps TSCH6 type=16 - Temic PAL_DK (4016 FY5) type=17 - Philips NTSC_M (MK2) type=18 - Temic PAL_I (4066 FY5) type=19 - Temic PAL* auto (4006 FN5) type=20 - Temic PAL_BG (4009 FR5) or PAL_I (4069 FR5) type=21 - Temic NTSC (4039 FR5) type=22 - Temic PAL/SECAM multi (4046 FM5) type=23 - Philips PAL_DK (FI1256 and compatibles) type=24 - Philips PAL/SECAM multi (FQ1216ME) type=25 - LG PAL_I+FM (TAPC-I001D) type=26 - LG PAL_I (TAPC-I701D) type=27 - LG NTSC+FM (TPI8NSR01F) type=28 - LG PAL_BG+FM (TPI8PSB01D) type=29 - LG PAL_BG (TPI8PSB11D) type=30 - Temic PAL* auto + FM (4009 FN5) type=31 - SHARP NTSC_JP (2U5JF5540) type=32 - Samsung PAL TCPM9091PD27 type=33 - MT2032 universal type=34 - Temic PAL_BG (4106 FH5) type=35 - Temic PAL_DK/SECAM_L (4012 FY5) type=36 - Temic NTSC (4136 FY5) type=37 - LG PAL (newer TAPC series) type=38 - Philips PAL/SECAM multi (FM1216ME MK3) type=39 - LG NTSC (newer TAPC series) type=40 - HITACHI V7-J180AT I dont know what tv source there is in the philipines, I imagine it is NTSC so if that is so you can rule out al the pal tuners. Give type=2 a try first because it is the most popular. Once you have done this reboot(its quicker) and execute $scantv Xawtv will start to scan for channels and if all is well it will find them. good luck

I use both xine for dvd because it has menu support, and for vcd and divx easy gui. I use mplayer for quicktime streaming. (www.apple.com trailers)

most nforce2 boards have all the bios overclocking features

I use an saus a7n8x it works really well Only minor drawback lm_sensors dont work needs smbus driver which is still in cvs development. I would go along with linuxboy00 because the abit board uses the Isa bus for the sensor chip so therefore lm_sensors work with existing drivers. Nforce2 is definately the best choice.
