  1. Make sure the following are checked under "Advanced Options": Search System Folders Search Hidden Files and Folders Search SubFolders If you still can't find them, then (What I typically do normally), use the cmd prompt to hunt for those files, in question......
  2. DVD-RAM is a totally different format then DVD+-RW. Good luck with finding them. I'd keep the DVD's and just buy a cheap DVD+-RW drive, typically, they are about $50 of so.
  3. Hrrrmmm.... Are you saying there is no icons on the desktop, what about the start button (taskbar). Is it there? A note about SBC/Yahoo DSL. There is NO NEED to install that stuff, IF you have a router. From the few installs that I have done, I throw away the sbc cd and just go as is. That yahoo junk reminds me of AOL sometimes....
  4. What motherboard do you have? What CPU do you have? If AMD, what core do you have? If you have a Venice core, then you can run DDR400 (all four slots) at DDR 400. I believe San Diego core also supports this. If you rather have Revision, then I believe it is Revision E. Anything else (a, b, c, d) revisions DO NOT support all 4 memory slots being filled at DDR 400. So, I'd upgrade your CPU, to a Revision E (Venice) cpu.
  5. I'm sure you said it before. Does normal audio sound correctly? Is this a pro music computer? As in running cakewalk Sonar or something? Are you using mid to upper level audio cards? M-Audio (and a few others) are designed for pro audio. Creative and what not are mere consumer (generic) sound cards. Now, I do know that creative is a leader in sound cards, but compared to some of the HIGH-END sound cards out there, creative sucks. Professionally speaking. As in music studios.

    ntvdm error

Hey, I'm trying to point you in the right direction. There are many tweaks you can deal with. But, since I don't have the game, I can only recommend programs that may help out. Dungeon keeper is a great game (2), but, I have trouble with it, since I've upgraded.

    RAM problems with XP SP2

Try to update your video drivers. What video card do you have? Why do I ask? Your symptoms sound exactly like many issues with symptoms I've worked with. Anyway, I recommend this. One side note, having different speed memory, will slowdown the faster ram, to match with the slower ram. But, I do believe you have a video issue.

    HELP VERY MUCH NEEDED

When you say a buzzing sound comes from your laptop, is there a cdrom in the cdrom drive? If so, take it out. Does the buzzing sound happen again? Other than that, it does sound like your hdd is going bad. Perhaps getting a 3.5" IDE converter to regular 5.5" converter, and hooking up your laptop hdd to a desktop computer to retrieve any data you want to keep. Dealing with laptops is a very difficult situation. IMHO, laptops should not be the primary machine to work with.

    New pc restarts by itself

Just reboots? Hmmm, sounds like you have a certain checkmark that is checkmarked.... Anyway, do the following: Not sure how your computer is configured, so, I'll do a roundabout way in getting what we need done. blah Okay, click Start, Run, Control Panel, then double click System (or Windows key + Pause/Break key). Once system is up, click on the TAB Advanced. Next click on Settings under "Error Reporting" Once a new window appears, Under the area where there is "System Failure", which has "Write an event to the system log", "Send an administrative alert", you want to uncheck "Automatically Restart". Once you have done this, the next time your computer reboots, it should display the error. Please post the information here. OR Been awhile since I've been here, please post an attachment of your DUMP file, located withing c:\windows\minidump (the most recent one).

    Codename: Outbreak on windows XP

Since NT, err, XP is based on the NT kernel, you MAY be able to run it, due to extra compatibility code built in. The run in compatibility may work on this situation. But, since this is an iffy situation, you may want to go ahead an get the xp version.

    RAID-5 Recovery

I'm surprised too. Never stop a process that you started when working with Raid Arrays. As you can see, this messes up what you were doing. Since you started up a totally new process, I'm not sure exactly what needs to be done to fix this. R-studio may work, or if the data is important enough, there are places out there that can recover dead arrays.

XP VPN vs Norton Internet Security

What version of Norton Internet Security do you have? Anyway, here is 2003 - 2004 version: Virtual private network (VPN) program compatibility with Norton Internet Security and Norton Personal Firewall Situation: You want to know which virtual private network (VPN) programs are compatible with Norton Internet Security and Norton Personal Firewall. Solution: The following VPNs have been tested with Norton Internet Security and Norton Personal Firewall 2004: * Symantec Enterprise VPN * Nortel * VPNRemote * PGP * SecureRemote Other VPNs may work with Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall; however, they are not supported by Symantec Technical Support. Technical Information: VPN problems If you encounter problems with your VPN program and Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall, one possible solution is to update the drivers for your network card. In many reported cases, installing the latest drivers for your network card fixes problems. With most VPNs, when the VPN client is active, you cannot see the Internet or other computers on your local network. You can see only what is available through the VPN server to which you are connected. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip...src=bar_sch_nam
  20. I hate to say this, but it works fine for me(IE sp2). Maybe it is because I'm on my work computer and I'm running on a 400 mhz P2.
  21. Not sure what router you have, but there should be an ability to auto config your router. Can you access your router via your pc? What is the model?
