Though, pending on the placement of the projector, you may need to buy a very long cable that will reach from the projector to the computer.

VMware Workstation - XP Pro svc pk 2
theefool replied to Ballhead's topic in Everything New Technology
I think it is fascinating that someone would spend the money for VMware, just to run Windows 3.1, so they can play some old games. But,hey, whatever works..... -
Hmmm, what about uninstalling all Blitzz software and drivers. Reboot. When the computer is looking for the wireless drivers, just install the drivers. Not any of the software. Also, have you checked out your Event log? As in Right click on Mycomputer, Left click on Manage, click on the + next to Event viewer (which is under Computer Management (local), and under System Tools). Are there any suspicious red x's near anything to do with Blitzz or Zero Wireless Configuration? Check under Application and System. Oh, and if the computer freezes before you can do this, go into safe mode. As in reboot the computer, press F8 (might have to do it repeatedly) right after post, but before windows starts.

Same here. But, I do know, you need to make sure that the input of the projector can read the output on your monitor. I've seen some projectors can't read resolutions over 1024x768. But, that was about 8 years ago. Need to check what hz that came show (ie. 60, 65, 70, 75, 100...), monitor resolutions, 16 bit - 32 bit resolution. Also, you may want to buy a splitter box that use on both your computer and your projector. That way, you can have the monitor running at the same time as your projector. I haven't worked with projectors for some years. So, perhaps nowadays, you don't have to worry as much. I've also seen places where you can build your own projector for about $300.

PLEASE HELP ME GET MY SATA DRIVE TO BE SATA AND NOT ATA/100
theefool replied to gipanizer's topic in Hardware
One other note: Most mainboard companies will not ship a floppy with those drivers. But, I'd bet a whole penny that those drivers are located on their CD. So, you may need to get into that cd, copy respected drivers to your floppy, and go to town. If said drivers are compressed, you will, of course, need to uncompress them. Or simply download them from the internet. -
Yes, to all those. You can even have your own computer as a host. So, that others can browse your own computer. As long as your ISP doesn't know, who cares! http://www.no-ip.com/ allows that exactly. Even if you have a dynamic IP.

What os do you have? Or rather, go to bootdisk.com, to find a boot disk. Though, I wonder why you are even wanting to run win 3.1. -
There are multiple ways to improve the pagefile performance. Who really knows if any way is better then others. MS says you must have a pagefile where the OS resides. Other people say you should have a pagefile on a seperate HDD, preferably on a seperate controller. I myself have a page file located on the same partition as my OS, and a 2nd pagefile located on a 2nd drive on a 2nd controller. If you want to speed up boot time, get either SCSI or SATA and use RAID 0.

Yes, you can edit the boot.ini. One way to do this is either to "right click on My Computer" select properties. (Or Start, Settings, Control Panel, System) Go to the Advanced tab, Press the Settings button in the "Startup and Recovery" box. Where it says "To edit the startup options file manually, click Edit", click the edit box. You will have something similar to the following (may not be exactly what I have here): [boot loader] timeout=1 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect The [operating Systems] section is where the options come in place. Simply delete the line that has "3. Microsoft XP Professional Setup " in it. Save and exit. Oh, and I recommend a backup of this file....just in case...

I 2nd that. I've seen where the computer has massive problems copying files during install. But, you use a different cd/dvd drive and everything runs smoothly.

I have about 3 years experience with Solaris and HPux. So, here is a n00b question. Are the many flavors of Linux pretty much the same as Solaris or HPux? About the only thing I've done with linux, per se, was install VMware and setup Mandrake just to see what irc chatting was like on a unix core. I also on occasion use Knoppix on Dead NT boxes....though, recently I've been playing with ERD Commander.

I can see this has been a quest, long in the running. http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread22470-1.html

Is this computer on the same domain or workgroup? Can you ping the remote computers? If you can do a net view....can you do a net use? As in: net use x: \\computername\shared folder What about the Run box... can you type in \\computeranme and press enter? Is this network of yours accessed to the internet or an intranet? Can you get to either?

(No, not even the Penguin (AKA Danny Devito) would have been able to piece that stuff back together. ) That reminded me of this huge shredder we had in Norfolk, VA. You could put the entire "burn bag" on this conveyor belt and this machine would shred the entire bag. This thing didn't care. One particular requirement to work with this beast was a breathing mask. The paper got shredded to the point of dust. You could litterally fling the shredded paper in the air, and watch it float down. -
Besides switching the keys? Is this a multimedia keyboard? Have you tried a different keyboard?
-
Are you sure it is two copies? Do you have two different "windows" directories? In your "Documents and settings" folder, do you have a "default" profile, and a "defult.machine_name" profile? Can you give us what is in your boot.ini, this will help to determine whether or not you do have two different XP installs.

Just curious. Why not change out your nic, that way you don't have to wait on your MAC to be released. Unless you are not talking about the MAC address on the NICs themselves......

Have you tried the brightness controls? Anyway, this sounds very similar to a laptop that I recently worked on. One day it worked, the next it didn't. I was able to connect the laptop to an external monitor, then I switched the video display to the monitor, and found that there was an error in bios. Reset the bios, computer was able to boot. BUT, no display on the laptop itself, just the external monitor. Also, no warranty to the laptop. Well, in this case, I sent it to a friend who works on the hardware aspects of laptops. He took it apart, and discovered that the inverter was charred, also the connection to the mainboard was charred at the connection. Result? Use the external monitor for now on, buy a replacement mainboard and inverter, or just buy a new laptop. Now, this was just this laptop's problem. Yours maybe easier. Check your laptop manual to see if there is anyway to reset the bios and see what happens......

You stated that you nolonger can gain access to the network. What was changed before you lost access?

Where in my post did I even say NTFS permissions with Exchange? I just said permissions. As in your post, you suggest checking permissions within exchange. Also, if you note, I last used exchange 5 years ago. Did exchange 2003 exist 5 years ago? No. So, I'm only offering suggestions. Though, I was an exchange admin for 2 years (5 years ago). Also, there is no need to take a class, if you can crack open a book and read up on it. I have taken a class for Exchange 5.5 way back when....didn't learn squat. But, luckily I didn't pay for it.

Is the battery in? Is the laptop plugged into the wall? Can you connect an external monitor to your laptop, and output the screen to that monitor (might be FN + F3). Is there a small hole on the bottom of the laptop, if so, that may (or may not) be the bios reset. I've seen this on some laptops. The big question is......is the laptop under warranty?

Ok, now I understand. But, I'm not sure how one goes about this. So, I'm doing a bit of research. There are a lot of tech saavy people here, surely one of them will drop on by. But, I'll be looking into it.
