I believe you were asking about Thunderbird accessing hotmail...Well, here is a few links, to peruse. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=53174 http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=207024 Yes, I also downloaded daily. Though, not anymore. Now, I just go to http://www.squarefree.com/burningedge/ and read up on what is new, what is fixed, what got broken again. Then I download away. At work I download and install the executable, but at home, I still use the zipped file. The site use to update everyday, but now it is updated sparingly. Another site to check out for Thunderbird is http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/rumblingedge/. This site updates about once a week. -
If you can that is, go into safe mode...ie...reboot the computer, hit F8 after the post, but before the XP scrolly screen appears. Then logon as your account, run MSCONFIG and the STart and Run. Select the Selective Startup radial button. Uncheck "Load Startup Items", System.ini, and Win.ini. Reboot the computer normally, and try getting into your account. After that is done, download/run spybot, adaware, and possibly even Giant..err Microsoft Antispyware.

But browsing through the regristry is so much more fun, then using a "program" that does it for you. -

Last time I tried opera, was probably when they had 2.0 or something. Anyway, I've been using firefox, since it was called Phoenix. Maybe 5 or so years ago. One nice thing that I like about it, is that you don't need an installer to install this program. So, those of you who are on a network, with limited to no permissions can still install and run. Also, there are daily updates to the build. -
I use to know of a bandwidth meter that I use to use for my Direcway. But, alas, I can't remember what it is called. So, try out http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2086 It is called Crystal Internet Meter. 30 day trial. I'm running it right now, seems pretty good. It keeps a log of how much bandwidth you are using, day to day.

Machine Check: Regs in event viewer on boot
theefool replied to Curley_Boy's topic in Customization & Tweaking
http://forums.amd.com/index.php?showtopic=28514 <--- has some info http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.cfm?catid=25&threadid=63989&enterthread=y <--- talks about via 4in1 chipset drivers caused that problem. http://www.multi-hardware.com/MHBB/mess.php3?f=1&t=1237&conf=multi <--- says it is based on power fluctations Who knows. Anyway, this happens on my machine (amd 3200+). BUT. I do not have any lockups, nor do I have any other system problems. I am running a Gigabyte Main board, using a via chipset. So, this is either a power issue or a VIA issue. We can rule out the VIA issue if others on this forum say they don't have the VIA chipset. Though, one user on the VIA board said that using older drivers fixed his issue. We can rule out the power issue, if we know for a fact that we have a 400+ watt power supply and that we are getting clean power to our system. Yes, clean power. Having dirty power running to your system can cause problems. I personnaly have had no issues. But, if others are having problems, it could be almost anything. Perhaps, I'll install the latest and greatest via drivers and see what happens. THough, my event log entry appears about once a week. -
I forgot to mention. When, or if this works for you, you are done with said hive. You need to select file and unload hive.
-
Okay, another thing to try. Have your old hdd as slave. Boot up XP as normal. Run regedit. Now the fun part. Click on HKLM (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE). On the menu, select File, Load Hive. Navigate to your old hdd. Go to windows, then system32 then config. The file you want to open is either System or Software (neither has an extension). Then you need to enter in a name for this hive. Type in whatever you wish. I usually enter (blah). Now, if you don't see any extensions, please click on "View Menu" button and select details. The file System and Software should be more than a meg a piece. Hopefully, none of this is to confusing. Feel free to ask questions.

Well, I'll look into it. Couple questions though. You say that the other drive is a slave. Have you changed anything with this slave drive? There are a couple programs that may help you out. But, they are not free. One is O&O Bluecon XL (Similar to the repair console, but more powerful, has a command line registry editor), another is Winternals ERD. Not sure if Knoppix, which is free, can help or not. Can't remember if it has a registry editor. Now where did I put that cd. Unless some of the ancient ones here has a better and quicker answer, I'll attempt to research this for you.

New AMD 64 processor and DFI motherboard; can't install XP. HELP!!!
theefool replied to Kindred's topic in Everything New Technology
Instead of overclocking, which produces heat and errors, have you tried just using REAL pc3200 memory? Also, have you tried using only one 512 stick of ram? -

Resticted Access after OS crash and new harddrive
theefool replied to samo21's topic in Everything New Technology
Well, the main reason you can't access those files is due to ownership of those files. A quick easy way to fix this is to run a little unknown app called the Security Configuration Manager. The site: http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/downloads/recommended/scm/default.asp The file : ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/winnt/winnt-public/tools/scm/scesp4i.exe It may require a reboot. Once this is done, simply right click on said folder/drive/file and select properties. A new tab should appear. This new tab is either security or permissions (yes it has been awhile). Anyway, once there, you should be able to set permissions on said folder. I'd recommend setting ownership, then set permissions. I've done this a number of times in the past. No, I have yet to see if this works in SP2. -
Were the entries located in HKLM or HKCU? If it was HKCU, you might be able to do it. OR, you could try a repair installation of the OS.

I have to agree. Check your memory. I've seen this problem many times in the shop. Though, I'm not even going to bother about asking whether or not you can get into safe mode. So, I won't ask.

Here goes nothing: Installing Windows Server 2003 SP #1, RC #2...

More ways than one, Mplayer 10 seems to always cause to many problems. For upgrading, overlays and whatnot. -
Either one. As long as either the CD or the Floppy drive has a disc/disk in it with an os on it.

PLEASE HELP ME GET MY SATA DRIVE TO BE SATA AND NOT ATA/100
theefool replied to gipanizer's topic in Hardware
I'm pretty confused on what you are trying to do. If you only have one drive, then you can't setup any type of RAID. Though, when you install XP, you do need your SATA controller drivers that came with your mother board. -
Also, if you have HiJackThis, there is a feature in that program that allows you to delete files upon reboot. Also, there are programs that fix the About:Blank. Look for about buster found on malwarebytes.biz.

Not all systems are created equal. What kind of memory is this? PC 66, 100, 133? Is this DDR? What about your mother board? Are you sure you bought the correct kind of memory?

Install and run Spybot, AdAware, and update your virus detections and run a virus check. I think Mcafee has a nifty program called Stinger. Which checks to see if you have some of the more common viruses. Oh, and removes them to.

Try copying autoexec.nt from the c:\windows\repair directory and copy over the autoexec.nt file located in c:\windows\system32. There is no need for a reboot. I had to do this, just today.
