Internet explorer (winxp) not displaying objects after reload.
theefool replied to berasco's topic in Software
It doesn't always fix things, but you may want to make the hosts file read only. You should be able to right click the file and hit properties. Then under attributes, check the box next to read only. Or you can go through the command prompt and type in: attrib +r hosts. Of course, you have to migrate over to the directory(folder) where this file exists. -
Windows98Se Laptop Fat32 and External Hd 300gb Ntfs with files Need to convert
theefool replied to Karaoke Guy's topic in Legacy OS
What can and does work? NTFS for 98 not working with EFS? Or that Partition magic can convert NTFS to FAT32....I know that it can, but I haven't tried it myself. -
WINDOWS XP will no got to desktop from WELCOME screen.

What OS you got? Also is it a standard install. One last thing, could you create a new post with this, instead of using this old thread? I think that is the rules here, but don't quote me on that. -

That NTFS for 98 looks pretty good, but it doesn't work with EFS. I was going to suggest using Partition magic, which can supposedly convert NTFS to FAT32. -
Yeah, I think I discovered ghost in 1999 I believe.

Increasing access to windows XP inbound connections.
theefool replied to oliverkazaam41's topic in Networking
Use at your own risk. OR just backup your computer first, then try NTswitch. I've read that it can and I've read that it causes problems converting XP pro to "server". Which increases your internet connections and gives you a memory leak. http://www.dotproject.org/news.php?action=read&id=80 Also, I believe this limit started back when NT came out. 98 supposedly has no limit. So, this limit is based on CALs or Client Access Licenses. Though, server maybe unlimited, I believe you would have to purchase the number of CALs that the server can use. Of course the above is a shady or perhaps illegal way to circumvent this. Not sure on that. -
I've read some aopen posts about this drive not being able to play well with Nero. Other people suggest taking the drive back in and using something other than aopen. Another user with this same drive, had problems playing brand new dvd movies in this player. But, burning worked just fine. They tried upgrading their video drivers, and now they can play movies. So, I suggest upgrading your video drivers and seeing what happens....

The best way is to host it yourself, using dynamic DNS. Or go to: http://www.no-ip.com/ IMHO....

Or run msconfig. But, I prefer going through the registry. I'm a lot more comfortable there. -

Also.....what does even viewer say? -
I got an old school question on starcraft and dual computers!

To tell you the truth, I thought blizzard had cd keys for everything. Including add-ons. Perhaps some of the old timers here in this forum could pop in.......... -
Excellent. I was hoping that would do it. Now, do you wish to go back to the original problem?

The USB1.1 transfer rate is fine. Only thing to do is to go ahead and use the writer as a writer and see what happens. Also, what is the make and manufacturer of this unit?
-
Have you tried, last known good configuration? Do you have the XP install CD? If yes, you can try going into the recover console, by booting from that CD then hitting R (at the first screen), follow the on screen instructions exactly. Then when you get the the c:\windows you may want to type in chkdsk c: /p /r If that doesn't work, you can try installing windows on top of itself. Which is basically a ®epair installation.

Computer can be finicky critters sometimes.

Have you tried loading bios defaults? Also, the FDD controller does indeed need to be running.
-
Also, is USB2 enabled in the bios?

Installed with two seperate keys? If I remember righ, there are is a key for starcraft and a key for brood wars. So, you'd need 2 copies of each, for a total of 4 different keys. But, since games are not my forte, I'll be asking these odd questions like this. -
Out of curiosity, can you hit CTRL+ALT+DEL 2 times in a row? Also, can you get into your machine in safe mode? One other wondering of mine, can you just boot normally, and then wait for .... 10 mins, then see if you can do anything? Or, try last known good.....

Do you have two copies of said game? One for each machine? -
SFTP may or may not be implemented in IIS7. So, as of right now...no. But, were you referring to FTPS or SFTP? Either case. Sorry, perhaps in the future. I found this info in the newsgroup: microsoft.public.inetserver.iis.ftp But, try out http://www.openssh.org/

Sounds like the DVD burner is going through the problems I had with my old computer. Everything played fine, as long as there wasn't a lot of "action". Found out that the players speed was not quite good enough. So, my question to you is: How fast is your regular DVD player, and how fast is your DVD burner? Another thing to try is to take the DVD burner out of its houseing (voiding its warranty) and connecting it to a regular IDE cable. But, it sounds to me that your dvd recorder just can't keep up. But, recording should be fine. If not, you may have a bad dvd burner...take it back and get a new one (Provided you didn't break the warranty by using the above method )
