DVD-RAM is a totally different format then DVD+-RW. Good luck with finding them. I'd keep the DVD's and just buy a cheap DVD+-RW drive, typically, they are about $50 of so.

Hrrrmmm.... Are you saying there is no icons on the desktop, what about the start button (taskbar). Is it there? A note about SBC/Yahoo DSL. There is NO NEED to install that stuff, IF you have a router. From the few installs that I have done, I throw away the sbc cd and just go as is. That yahoo junk reminds me of AOL sometimes....

What motherboard do you have? What CPU do you have? If AMD, what core do you have? If you have a Venice core, then you can run DDR400 (all four slots) at DDR 400. I believe San Diego core also supports this. If you rather have Revision, then I believe it is Revision E. Anything else (a, b, c, d) revisions DO NOT support all 4 memory slots being filled at DDR 400. So, I'd upgrade your CPU, to a Revision E (Venice) cpu.

I'm sure you said it before. Does normal audio sound correctly? Is this a pro music computer? As in running cakewalk Sonar or something? Are you using mid to upper level audio cards? M-Audio (and a few others) are designed for pro audio. Creative and what not are mere consumer (generic) sound cards. Now, I do know that creative is a leader in sound cards, but compared to some of the HIGH-END sound cards out there, creative sucks. Professionally speaking. As in music studios.

Hey, I'm trying to point you in the right direction. There are many tweaks you can deal with. But, since I don't have the game, I can only recommend programs that may help out. Dungeon keeper is a great game (2), but, I have trouble with it, since I've upgraded.

Try to update your video drivers. What video card do you have? Why do I ask? Your symptoms sound exactly like many issues with symptoms I've worked with. Anyway, I recommend this. One side note, having different speed memory, will slowdown the faster ram, to match with the slower ram. But, I do believe you have a video issue.

When you say a buzzing sound comes from your laptop, is there a cdrom in the cdrom drive? If so, take it out. Does the buzzing sound happen again? Other than that, it does sound like your hdd is going bad. Perhaps getting a 3.5" IDE converter to regular 5.5" converter, and hooking up your laptop hdd to a desktop computer to retrieve any data you want to keep. Dealing with laptops is a very difficult situation. IMHO, laptops should not be the primary machine to work with.

Since NT, err, XP is based on the NT kernel, you MAY be able to run it, due to extra compatibility code built in. The run in compatibility may work on this situation. But, since this is an iffy situation, you may want to go ahead an get the xp version.

I'm surprised too. Never stop a process that you started when working with Raid Arrays. As you can see, this messes up what you were doing. Since you started up a totally new process, I'm not sure exactly what needs to be done to fix this. R-studio may work, or if the data is important enough, there are places out there that can recover dead arrays.

Not sure if this will help or not...but maybe. Goto control panel. Date and Time. Internet Time tab. Uncheck "Automatically synchronize with an Internet time server" Which most windows servers are (internet time server), on a domain.

I hate to say this, but it works fine for me(IE sp2). Maybe it is because I'm on my work computer and I'm running on a 400 mhz P2.

Not sure what router you have, but there should be an ability to auto config your router. Can you access your router via your pc? What is the model?
