Question concerning e-mail accounts... (Privacy)
jimbo replied to Lotus's topic in Everything New Technology
Hi, Use profiles. Go to Control Panel, then select Mail. From there you can setup profiles(for Outlook not Outlook Express) for each user with a password if you want (in 9X for sure and I think in 2K and Xp as well). That way you don't have to have separate windows profiles if you don't want to. -
I had this exact same thing happen once. In my case I never exactly figured out what was causing it. I only managed to narrow it down to the graphic I was using (can't remember what format it was as it was several years ago). Anyway I finally managed to make it print by redoing the graphic in another format (convert to Gif, or bitmap or whatever as long as it's different than what it currently is) then re insert the graphic. Hope this helps.

Would someone please post the Visual Basic 5.0 Help File?

I'll see if I can scroung it up. Jimbo -
Thats whacked.... Try it on another printer and see if the problem is still there. If so it has something to do with the printer driver.... Jimbo

also don't forget to try changing the ports around on your hub. It may be that you have a messed up hub! Also just for the heck of it use a crossover cable to connect computer 1 directly to computer 3. Then see if they can ping each other. If they can then it is your hub that is likely the culprit. FYI if you want to make a crossover cable on one end of the cable just switch wires 1 and 3 and switch wires 2 and 6. Jimbo

Sounds like a policy or security setting. Probably nothing you can do except hack it. Jimbo

Also check this: If you have two Network cards and Netbeui bound to both it will sometimes think there is another machine on the network with the same name. Disable Netbeui on one of them if this is the case. Jimbo
-
I would first recommend trying the two machines with Netbeui (even if you don't want netbeui on your network install it temporarily). If, after installin Netbeui on both machines, they still can't talk then at least you know it's not a specific TCP/IP problem. (Also try running Netbeui only on both machines). If netbeui works then you know you don't have any policy/security/group issues. Sorry this isn't more help. Jimbo

Go to the control panel, go to the mail icon. Setup your profiles there. I had the same thing happen. Outlook wasn't smart enough to recognise that there wasn't a mail profile setup so it should set one up for me... Once I redid the account there it worked fine. Jimbo

You could also image the CD if it is still a hassle. (provided you have the disk space). Use something like Blindread to make a file image of the disk. Then install the Daemon CD rom emulator and mount the image (make sure daemon has the CD copy protection options on). This way you can play it anytime without the cd. Plus it's better than cracking it as daemon emulates the copy protection so you don't need to. (You can also install any patches without worrying). Jimbo

You could also just reinstall Windows 2K. Normally if you want to dual boot Win9X or Me you install 9X or Me first then Win2K. If you reinstall 2K it should work fine. Jimbo

According to MicroSoft (or is that MicroCrap) you cannot uninstall Media Player 7 if it is corrupted. There fix is for you to download the newest version of Media player.... which many of us don't want to do because it hijacks so much (including codecs)..... Check out the following articles for more info http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;272441 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;261176 Jimbo

Process File: ctfmon or ctfmon.exe Process Name: Alternative User Input Services Description: Handles Alternative User Input Text Processor (TIP) and the Microsoft Office Language Bar. Ctfmon.exe provides text input support for speech recognition, handwriting recognition, keyboard, translation, and other alternative user input technologies So... if you don't need the other language options of the speech recognition you can run safely without it! Simplest solution if security is not a major issue is to install Netbeui on Windows XP. I am running this exact same setup (XP at home, Nt4svcpk 6 at work). I have no problem accessing my NT server or the Lan it is connected to. For instructions on installing Netbeui on XP: Install NetBEUI on Windows XP The files necessary for installing the NetBEUI protocol on Windows XP are Netnbf.inf and Nbf.sys. Complete the following steps to install NetBEUI: Insert your Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive and browse to the Valueadd\MSFT\Net\NetBEUI folder. Copy Nbf.sys to the %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\Drivers directory. Copy Netnbf.inf to the %SYSTEMROOT%\Inf hidden directory. NOTE: To make a hidden folder viewable, perform the following steps: Click Start, click Run, type Explorer, and then press ENTER. Click Tools, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab. Under Advanced Settings, click Show hidden files and folders under the Hidden files and folders Folder. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network Connections. Right-click the adapter you want to add NetBEUI to, and then click Properties. On the General tab, click Install. Click Protocol, and then click Add. Click to select NetBEUI Protocol from the list and then click OK. Restart your computer if you receive a prompt to complete the installation. The NetBEUI protocol should now be installed and working. NOTE: %SYSTEMROOT% is a Windows environment variable that identifies the directory where Windows XP is installed (for example, C:\Windows). To view the value associated with %SYSTEMROOT%, as well as other environment variables, at a command prompt, type set, and then press ENTER. NOTE: After following the steps above you should be able to use NetBEUI on Lan connections, however you will not be able to use NetBEUI on a Remote Access Service (RAS) connection. RAS connections cannot use NetBeui. For additional information on NetBEUI in Windows XP, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 306059 The NetBEUI Protocol Is Not Available in Windows XP Good luck. FYI in the future if this happens again you could download the ezdrive software and use the ezdrive bootdisk to uninstall it without having to lose any other data on the hard drive (though one machine once wouldn't let me remove it). Jimbo

From the following google search it looks like your Internet Explorer is actually corrupted. I'd advise installing a new IE asap. http://www.google.ca/search?q=%22EXPLORE...hl=en&meta= JImbo

Couple of things to check here: Have you tried accessing the site by direct ip? (for example http://192.168.0.1 or whatever it's IP is) Does that work? It may be a group permission issue as well. Also try going to a machine that does work properly, rename it to the name of the machine that doesn't work, then see if the problem exists. If it does it tells you the problem is related to the netbios name of the PC that doesn't work. Then go to the PC that doesn't work and rename it temporarily to one of the PC's that does work. Then try it. It could also be related to security settings in IE. Temporarily set the security to the lowest setting in IE and try it again. If it works you'll need to figure out which setting needs to be modified (though you'll likely not want to leave the security settings at minimal). Also if you are just in a hurry to fix the problem and don't want to spend a lot of time on it you could just clone one of the working PC's, then redo whatever drivers need to be redone, then rename it. Good luck. Jimbo

You should consider adding the drive mapping command to the users login script on the windows 2000 server. For example in a text file called login.bat net use m: \\servername\sharename Then make sure each user is running that script at login (via the User manager or Active Directory Users and Computers). Can you be more specific as to what you are trying to do? Are you wondering if you can load a program in 98 and get it to work in NT? If so which program?

I know you've scanned it but it really smells like a virus. For example there is the Wscript.KakWorm virus which is quite nasty as it runs from the preview pane of Outlook Express. For more information I recommend checking out Sarc.com here http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/wscript.kakworm.html Hope this helps.

Hello, Win 98 (and I believe 95 as well) have an option called dialup server. Just go to the control panel, add remove programs, Windows Setup tab. In communications you should see dialup server. It's been a while since I've used this so you'll have to figure out the rest yourself. I do remember that once it's installed you start the "service" by opening the Dialup Networking Folder in My Computer then clicking on the menu option Tools (I think...) and starting it. Sorry I can't be more specific. It's been at least 5 years since I've used this.

An addendum to Duhmez: Look for HP Jetdirect Direct software for Win 9x. It will allow you to do this no problem (provided that you are actually using an HP jetdirect box and not another brand like Dlink).

Just tell him to hit CTRL ALT DEL Then end all tasks except Systray and Explorer - then run scandisk. Alternately you can run scandisk in safemode.
