What are some apps and utilities i need if i wanna do gaming and website devlopemnt and c++ programming for linux and also word processing?

What is the diff between draken or demien or whatever it is called it like mod for linux and redhat. I am buying redhat today I think can't DL 56k so whas the diff. Which one is better I'd like a harder one for leanring make it more challenging
