Quote: .. the more chances something will screw up! .. That sounds like M$. Take something simple and.. (fill to hearts content.. just remember someone else may have added that so after you get yours in remove.. well maybe remove.. then add...) 8) I wounder how much of that resembles their actuall code? ;( x)

Is this how your Windows install performs?

The Firewall in XP [W]ill block some stuff from coming in (when it is activated. Default=Not Activated). But does nothing about the information that goes out of your PC. Ain't that neat?

    THANK YOU , MS

I think that is the biggest thing for me at the moment. Not having my monitor set just right. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong until I go to use a few games. ..There was one inparticular that is on Knoppix CD. I forget it's name but it makes a mess. Atelast I can get out of it.

    Fedora & ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe Mobo

3Com = eth0 (3C920B-EMB) nVIdia = eth1 (nForce MCP) (RH9) I haven't used the net on that machine so not sure if they are actually working. I have a XP box that I use, so I know the connections work. Just not sure if they do with Linux or not. the nvnet is the nvidia one.

    THANK YOU , MS

Atleast I am only 1/2 of that.. for now. I still have some things I like on .. um that thing.. (games.. ) On my RH9 box I went to install UT2003.. but forgot something.. Oh yeah.. the settings for my monitor. Bah!.. soon enough I think. (I have a lot of time coming up.. )

    Hey! I'm a senior!

Quote: ...people have accepted a particular distro, and sometimes try to answer others questions by promoting that distro, regardless of whether it will supply the answer ... ..Yeah.. I have noticed that. Kina amussing, actually. (Kina because sometime I ask the questions )

    Hey! I'm a senior!

how about philosophical ? It was in a show I watched. 10 years ago? This little rat comes from the side of the screen and ask where are we? Where am I? Where are any of us? Later on it is Who am I ..etc.. If I could remember what show/movie it was that might help more. Almost like a running gag. Without the technicolor spew. _________________ I am what I am. And I don't think Betty Ford takes Vampyres.

    Hey! I'm a senior!

Some how I am expecting a rat that is chillin' then says that philisofical reply to all answers. And just who are we? We are who we are. or something like that.

    Hey! I'm a senior!

.. no.. that won't happen. But the occassional guess can be correct with no foreknowledge. When a question is yes or no.. the chances are 50% at getting it correct. However, quantum physics adds the possibility of a third answer that is the same.. not.. and inbetween all at the same time. Atleast you are right - at some point - Maybe - Not. Something inbetween? 8) ;( ;(

    Hey! I'm a senior!

I don't think you will quit. Isn't that the point of Linux anyway? TO keep it going. To Surpass ... Him. To boldly go where no previous (or curret other [ie: M$]) o/s can. (or will ) ---------------- EI.. UI .. Oh.. what ever. Didn't help the farmer either.

    Why are you running Linux?

I have had XP crash 3 times, just short of 2 months, required the shutting off the machine by powering down at source (The Plug). Of those, the BIOS was corrupted 1 time preventing the system from booting at all. Or being installed. Good keys were not seen as good. After reciving new flashed BIOS I could re-install XP. My Linux machine hasn't crashed, or given me troublesome faults. Granted I still don't have the sync quite right for the monitor and one of the programs I had used, so I will occasionally get monitor funnies... no big deal. I can guess the keys to press to get out of it. But that is just me... .. sorry I ment XP

    Keyboard characters and linux

I think there is a ..what was it for dos.. ACK.. DOSKEY !! I think there is something similar. I can use my arrow keys for previous commands. I am not 100% sure. Sounds like you want more of a mouse menu to select from.

    Keyboard characters and linux

[alt]+three numbers = what ever character on code page. instead of hitting enter [alt]013 and release [alt] convienent when some keys are useless. Been around since DOS. (da ol' stuff )

    Why are you running Linux?

I think most run windoze BECAUSE it has their favorite application. (which can translate to game.. ) Quote: I'm not even going to get into the "ease-of-use" issue, but, My systems running W2K are just as stable as anything I've seen in Linux. Humm.. think the code was.. um removed or placed by you know whom.. (I don't think they could write it on their own.. )
