from the folks at sysinternals you can get a free program that defrags all your system files at boot time its called page defrag http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/pagedefrag.shtml no need to delete it, just set its size to whatever you wantin the w2k disk admin msc, and then reboot. this util will defrag you page file (and registry!) and you are set.

Laptop - need to run XP or 2000 on it!

sounds like memory to me. I would guess that it has at some point been upgraded (since most 400mhx notebooks did not come with 256mg) and maybe someone did not choose the exactly correct module. try downloading the free memtest86, and let it run overnight. it catches a lot of errors. or try and install it with the extra module removed if it has some integrated memory/2 modules (most do) -
Do all Radeon 9_00 cards connect to a PS's power supply?
mervincm replied to SnapperOne's topic in Hardware
Why would you be hesitant to plug a second power connector into your v card? It is only to ensure that the card gets enough current to do what it needs to do and your motherboard simply cannot provide it safely. another choice is the older 8500. it was a high end card in its day and it often now discounted into the range of the 9000 yet performs much better. -
could this be a problem related to AGP voltage? I know at one point in time the agp voltage changed (3 to 1.5v i seem to remember)) and because of this you can not always swap new cars into old MB. If you notice, your new AGP card prolly came with a warning like "USE ONLY in 1.5v AGP only" I would triple check that all your agp is the same standard as you risk destroying your mb and cards if it is not.

They are even worse than that! I had an asus and a liteon cdrw in the same PC, both came with nero. but neither included copy would support the other burner, EVEN with both in the PC!! I emailed nero and they said too bad, buy ANOTHER liscence and it will support both. I was like what the hell, I already own 2, I only need 1 yet you expect me to buy a third??? They were not willing to do anything about it. After trying to resolve it "properly" and being told too bad, you can guess how guilty I feel about using a keygen to create a code to use software I ALREADY OWN!!! BTW Nero works fine for me creating dvd-data disks.

you can move these default restrictions, just go to the global policy for the domain (same place as in w2k) and delete them. I did in on mine.
