Quote: I read the article at www.tomshardware.com about Call Of Duty Looks amazing it would be cool if it was ported to linux. As far as doom3 goes I hope It does not go OTT and loose on playability. For example UT2003 has really good grafics but the grafics engine lacks something, I cant put my finger on it. Its kinda like the difference between Vinyl and cd.(quake3 and UT2003). The quake3 engine just seems smoother and more playable... This is just me. Yes you are so true, ut2k3 misses something. Probably because of that Epic already anounced there will be an ut2004 <i> UT2004 will basically be a severely upgraded version of UT2003 with all sorts of new content, an improved engine, and two new gameplay modes: "Assault" and "Onslaught," which adds controllable land, space, and air-based vehicles.</i> http://www.planetunreal.com/ut2004/index.shtml (story) http://www.planetunreal.com/ut2004/screenshots/ (some screenshots) http://www.ut2003files.com/file.news?ID=5730 (video + interview) but yeah Quake3 rules and i hope they keep the gameplay high on Quake4 with doom3 engine. One thing for sure i know, an upgrade for the next yea i will need

quakecon 2003 report well this isnt new, one week late, but one more time, its reinforced and if anyone had any doubts that Doom3 will be supported under linux. Like quake3 did in the past. Doom3 will be the De Facto game, the game that will set the standards the game that will set the steps for others to follow. Doom3 it will be based manly in openstandards like opengl2 and that is a warranty of success. John Carmack didnt gave the final keynote speech, but ID's devolepers working in the project just pointed one more time that a LINUX client will be released. So we all can start putting aside those euro/dollar cents for the major upgrade for something that can run Doom3 atleast @50FPS The game its schedule for mid of 2004 and quake4 with doom3 engine to the beginning of 2005 On other note, a new game was presented Heed The Call Of Duty, a quake3 engine game based like battlefield 1942 Mohha and Enemy territory, featuring the world war II was anounced and accordingly to TG reporters the game is astonishing Call of Duty is a game set in WWII, and offers a realistic glimpse of what a real war is like. There is a selection of three soldier campaigns: American, Russian, or French, in order to provide different battle line perspectives. This game might be the best looking and most realistic war game we've ever seen. The graphics are indeed mind blowing. When a mortar round hits the ground in front of you, the ground breaks up in chunks and rains down around you, and it looks like the real thing. The developers, Infinity Ward, told us they used a highly-modified Quake 3 engine. This got us even more interested, since we're big fans of Quake 3, only this engine blows Quake 3 away. These guys obviously worked their tails off, and it shows. .. The game will be on the shelves in November of this year, just before it's time to go Christmas shopping. The question is, there will be a linux port? I hope so, lets wait to see ;(

Quote: not sure if it will play on solaris, sound like they have no idea. Which means they are guessing, I can Guess also! which also means that they guessing about any possible linux port. I would agree its not a bad guess, But only a guess... After this last weeks MSblaster fiasco more people will be tempted by linux, I think that the futre for linux gaming is positive. BUT I'M ONLY GUESSING!!!! did you read the link i posted above? the guy was asking for ppl to gather signatures for a linux client for halflife1 and to check the possibility of a halflife2 port of a game that has the realase date anounced and not one word yet about the linux port. My question is, if they didnt provide a halflife 1 version to linux, that its based on quake 1 a game with almost 8 years, ever since, what do you think are their concern about releasing an halflife 2 port ? To scare most its the fact that Halflife2 its based on a new engine. And about the solaris thing, yeah sure, if they even dont want to support the linux community they will release a solaris version just think about, makes no sense, atmost you can run the game server side in solaris, with linux compatibility. About the opengl or directx throught winex just forget it

just to point that, you can run Warcraft3 with wine, but you are limited to OpenGL I can asure you that theres no diference beteween the 2 but This is an option, if anyone doesnt want to to pay to have the winex binaries or cant grab the sources from CVS for free. adeus

Quote: Ok, first off...THANKS FOR LETTING ME JOIN! Anywayz...just wondering about winex and games, etc. I was wondering, is winex updated each time a new game comes out, or do the games automatically work under winex. Transgamming team, is a bunch of guys that mainly come from the wine project or have a solid background in emulation and reverse engenieering. What they do currently its selling a product that permits others to play windows games on linux. Usually they pick a popular game and make the releases and drift the development of winex accordingly to that. These popular games are picked from a list submited to winex costumers, ie you me and all the others that did bought the product. This list works on a poll basis. Quote: Also, anyone have a URL for me so where I can see if games will work under winex? AGAIN....U *NIX GUYS ARE AWESOME! [seriusly, i'm tired of Windoze and LOVE all the smarts and knowledge y'all got!] the best place for that will be the transgamming website, check on left for "GAmes List", make your search and be surprise by how many titles are currently supported. The only thing i suggest or wished would be possible and to make the proper use of your tag, would be a Winex release for the BSD's. Since wine is already ported in a convineent way, its just a matter of waiting.

hello, sry if this is a double posting. I did a little search but didnt found nothing.. even so, i thought on sharing this with my new linux friends. I really love this new spot i found on a casual google search, and i think i will be here for a while x) about the BF1942 http://www.markzsmith.plus.com/bf1942_winex3_hotwo.html this mini howto and TG forums, really helped me puting BF working and even do a little network play with my WinBox friends. The game its pretty stable, but harder you push the settings more difficult will be for you to play with it. Sometimes tweaking the panel will make your sys so impossible to run that you need to shutdown the game. Since its kind frustanting rechek everything, please post what are the settings you are using, system specs, what patches, addons you could installed etc.

if i may suggest you, wouldnt be much simpler if you release just the confs and the install script on a spareted zip file, targz, run, with a mirror list to grab the official SID files or perhaps with the possibility of the user to give his own url (not everyone has no traffic limits on international usage) or to specify a local directory. and thanks for your work, i know many users and admins that do benefit from it
