I feel your pain. Since the WON servers are no longer operational I can't play Team Fortress on line. They've moved over to "Steam" but I can't get it working. I understand Transgaming is working on it, but who knows when a solution will be found. The only person I know of here that would have the know how to do what you're asking is martouf. Ask him and see what he says.. -
I once had issues running mplayer on my laptop that were somewhat similar to yours with Xine. Take a look at this. Scroll down and read "Playback of various stream types." I hope this helps. Fedora Core 1 is simple to install, and with the updates is very stable, should you decide to try it.

brodee, if Xine, mplayer or any video player is that important to you, have you considered dropping back to Core 1? Xine and mplayer both work perfectly for me under Core 1.

Now that I can boot, I'm getting an "invalid partition" error during installatio
Dapper Dan replied to Trizik's topic in Everything Linux
During the install. tell it to "automatically" set up the partitions. Then it will do with your hard drive as it wishes. -
Nero is good. If you don't have a copy, The trial version is still avaiable for you to check out and see if you want to purchase it.
-
brodee, can you install mplayer or ogle with apt and see if they will work with that legal DVD?

Did you md5sum check the CDs to make sure they were the correct size after burning? If so, and that checked out, my next guess would be that you maybe didn't burn an image of the ISO's but rather just burned the ISO to disk. If that might be the case, you can browse the first CD from XP. If there is only one file on the CD that ends with .iso, then you will need to re-burn them, only this time making sure you burn the image and not the .iso itself. Which burning program did you use when creating these CDs?

brodee, I would also go into synaptic, and install every package that begins with "libdvd." There's libdvdread, libdvdread-devel, libdvdplay, libdvdplay-devel. libdvdnav, etc. When I installed Xine in Red Hat 9, I seem to remember having to install many of these other packages.

It ain't gonna hurt a thing, mine does it too. I once read where you can eliminate the messages by editing something, but I just never did it. Since they configured X windows to initiate sooner, giving us that nice clean boot progress screen, it doesn't happen when that's running. If you run it without the boot screen progress bar, it happens. I'd just ignore it.

Check your synaptic packages and see if libdvdcss is installed or even if it appears. If not, go here, download and install and see if it fixes the problem.

Hi brodee, check this thread on how to install apt on Fedora Core 2. Once installed, use apt to install Xine, which will take care of the dependency issues you may be having. I installed Xine using the Fresh RPMS repositories and it ran perfectly for me. Good Luck.

You should have been given the opportunity to configure your mouse and video at install. Did you not configure them then, or is it that the configuration you entered is just not working properly? You don't need to create a file for X.org. You have two utilities that will better address both problems. As root go: system-config-mouse [enter] ..for your mouse, and for the monitor: system-config-display [enter] Play with those, and tell me what you come up with. Those utilities *should* run without X windows.

Need to know which distro you're using. That goes a long way in helping to get Xine going for you.

Cannot get Netgear MA311 to work no matter what!
Dapper Dan replied to Dapper Dan's topic in Linux Networking
Hi rsteven and welcome! I know this card will work because I also have it running with with Fedora Core 2. Have you played around with the Fedora network configurator? As root go: system-config-network [enter] Go in there and click on the hardware tab and check how the card has been set up. post back here what it says. It's probably just a matter of how it is set up there. By the way, what router are you using? Make sure WEP is disabled while trying to configure it. -

What type mouse are you using? If usb, try rounding up a ps2 to get you going. Then once the install is made, and you have X, you can then plug in the other mouse and configure it with system-config-mouse.

I'm not smart enough to get bit torrent working so I'm afraid I wouldn't know. Sorry. Have you considered just oredering the CDs? There are a number of places where you can get them at a very minimal cost. You can get all 4 CDs here for a mere $4.95.

Download and burn these: FC2-i386-disc1.iso FC2-i386-disc2.iso FC2-i386-disc3.iso FC2-i386-disc4.iso

I just googled Hyundai USB 2.0 8 in 1 and "Linux" and nothing came up mentioning the two. Not a good sign. Have you contacted the manufacturer to ask? I'm not familiar with this type of hardware, but it looks to be useful.

I use apt-get rpm exclusively with Fedora Core 1, and never use up2date. When the little icon in the lower right becomes a red exclaimation point, I know it's time to upgrade packages with apt. Which version are you using? Apt is very easy to install and get running on Red Hat/ Fedora.

I would just like to thank the Linux comunity
Dapper Dan replied to LordStark's topic in Everything Linux
As a Moderator here at Linuxcompatible, I would like to tell you how much we appreciate your "thank you!" Those of us who do try to help, mostly do it because we believe in open source and mostly love and believe in Linux. It is very rewarding to watch as new users come over to Linux and become a part of it. Thank you LordStark for coming to us for answers. If anyone here can help further, please let us know! -
Just for fun, I downloaded the ISO for Red Hat 6.2 to see what Linux and Red Hat was like way before I started running it. It is extremely primitive to install by today's standards, although I never could get past the partitioning. Even though I would assign partitions, it still would not let me go to the next phase. It's probably an exercise in pointlessness anyway since 6.2 didn't recognize my new video card. Maybe I'll try it on an older box to see what the "good old days" were like!

Is it just me, or is martouf the only one here who has difficulty understanding my posts?
