How to access fdisk in linux?

I know next to nothing anymore about Windows, and especially know very little about XP. Is there such a thing as an XP boot floppy? Can you download one from the Internet? You might be able to get in that way. You may want to also try downloading and burning the live cd Kanotix, and running QTparted from it. I think there are utilities in there that will let you do some editing on your partitions. You could also run QTparted from Mandrake if it is installed or installable.

    Mandrake 10 - Kernel 2.6 - CMI8738

Found this. I don't know if this will help, but thought you might want to read it. Did you run /usr/sbin/alsaconf like martouf suggested?

Call of Duty, wiht loki installed, but it wont start

So you haven't tried getting it to run from a terminal yet? Open a terminal, and as regular user, get into the directory where the executable is with the cd command. It's likely in the location below, so go: cd .transgaming/c_drive/Program\ Files/ [enter] Once there do: ls [enter] That will give you a list of directories in your fake windows/Program Files directory. Look for the one that has the Call of Duty executable in it. Once in the same place as the executable go: cedega whatever.exe [enter] ..and that should open it for you. Let's say for instance the .exe is in a folder called callofduty, and the .exe is called whatever.exe. You can then create an icon on your kde desktop and give it this command: cedega .transgaming/c_drive/Program\ Files/callofduty/whatever.exe And when you click on that icon, it *should* work.

Is there a driver for ATI Radeon X300 SE ???

According to this, your card should function under Linux. Is it not working now? With which distro are you wanting it to work?

How to access fdisk in linux?

I'll take a stab at it. When you say, "unhidden" what do you mean? Did you try installing Mandrake second in a dual boot configuration and now XP isn't showing up in your boot loader? If so, which boot loader? Likely Lilo with Mandrake. Are you sure the XP partition is still there? Have you checked in the Mandrake Control center under "mount points" to see if the XP NTFS partition is intact? Have you tried mounting through Linux to see if the files are still there? Forgive me if these are dumb questions, or you've already done these things, I just need a better idea of where you are with this before I attempt to help further. Thanks.

    Linux Booting problem

The only thing I can think of is maybe your ISO is not the right size or is currupted. Have you done md5sum to check it? See the bottom of this post.. I hope this helps.

Error when trying to post to forum

I know I had a hell of a time posting last week because, my post had a pipe in it, (The character above the back slash), and I kept getting an error. Let me see if I can get it to post now... Nope! it didn't work! I had to go back and edit it out of this post! Philipp, do you have any idea why this would be? It's kind of important we be able to post a pipe since it's used in a lot of code. Thanks.

    best audio/video player for linux

brodee, before you install anything else, You would be doing yourself a huge favor by installing apt-get RPM. That dag file you are trying to install in for Core 1 and I believe you said you use Core 2. This will make your life with Linux hugely easier, especially when installing Xine. http://www.linuxcompatible.org/thread27839-1.html And yes, WinAmp skins will work with XMMS, although I've never done it.
  14. Have you installed a distro? Which one? If you haven't, I would download the ISO and burn Knoppix, and see if it will detect it. Knoppix has good hardware detection.
  15. I think it's listed as Xscreensaver. Seems like it's the same for both Gnome and KDE. Look in the KDE control panel or right click to configure desktop. I think there's a box or something in there where you can turn it on.

    best audio/video player for linux

For music I use XMMS, which looks almost exactly like Winamp. It should already be in your menu under Sound & Video as "Audio Player." If you want to listen to MP3's you'll have to install the xmms-mp3 plugin. For movie player, Xine. Mplayer would not work right for me in Fedora Core 2, so I gave it up and installed Xine.

different gaim install problems on fedora

brodee, that RPM is for Mandrake 10. In most cases, it's not a good idea to use RPM's from another distro, as it can cause a problem somewhere else. Gaim is included with Fedora Core 1 and Core 2, and I've run it successfully under both. To whatever degree it works for you now, I would still uninstall it.. rpm -e gaim-0.80-0mdk10.0.i586.rpm [enter] And install the one that is correct for your distro. You can install Gaim by apt-get RPM or just go as root: system-config-packages [enter] And look for it in the Multimedia section. Once installed, upgrade your whole system using either apt, yum or up2date, and Gaim should work as desired.

    Newbie-- Dell 600m Intel 2200 + Battery

Debian is good. I have it (Morphix-Gnome 4.1) on my laptop. If you do want to try it, I'd stay away from Debian proper as the install is archaic and difficult for new users. An easier way is to burn a Knoppix or Knoppix based live cd, and install from that. Morphix and Kanotix are descendants of Knoppix which is Debian based, and their respective installs are pretty easy.

different gaim install problems on fedora

OK, after looking over this again a little closer, I see a "MDK" in that RPM. Did you already have Gaim as part of MDK 10? Was it not working or was it not icluded when you did the initial install?

That Orinoco Gold card is gold when it comes to Linux! I have one myself. Why not buy a pci slot for it? Something similar to this. (I haven't researched whether this one will actually work or not..)

I felt 9.2 was messed up from the get go. It's funny to think an update would make it even worse..

    Newbie-- Dell 600m Intel 2200 + Battery

Compiling kernels can be a mighty daunting task for a new user. I have always avoided it and vied instead to buy hardware that the kernel was ready made for. Complicating things is the fact that you would have to recompile a 2.6 with Mandrake 10. This "how to" looks pretty complicated to me, but I believe martouf would be able to help you with it. If it becomes a nightmare to compile, and you want an easy way out, I am presently typing from a box using Fedora Core2 (2.6 kernel) using the Netgeat MA311 wireless pci card. I'm certain this card will work with MDK 10 as well.

    Gaim install problem

I would do a complete Mandrake update, which will likely include a newer version of Gaim that does work. An update will fix a lot of other problems as well.
  24. Did you run md5sum on the ISO images before burning? That's all I can think of is that the image is not all there. That happens when downloading sometimes. If not that danleff can probably figure this one out. Sorry I couldn't help more.
