WinXP and automatically logging in question
genaldar replied to pr-man's topic in Everything New Technology
Tweak ui still does the trick. On most domains its the only way (damn school making me add my desktop to the domain). -
Quote: I use Brifecase and Im not sure it can go both ways. You like programs that go both ways huh? Seriously though it can (at least in xp).

Sounds like your modem is the issue. Have you tried up[censored] your driver? Or if possible do you have another one you can use for a short while?

Quote: Yes I remember Merlin OS/2. Most banks used it. NO OTHER non MS commercial OS WOULD'VE SURVIVED, MS makes sure of that. It's either Windows or Some flavor of Unix/Linux. Yes because we all know ms was the powerhouse when windows 95 launched. Oh wait no it wasn't, IBM was still bigger at the time. If IBM would've played their cards right linux would be competing against OS/2 7 or something like that.

Quote: A good firewall program can tell you if programs are sending/receiving data and allow you to block them as well. Good point. I used to have Zone Alarm block the adware parts of imesh so I could use it without being spied on.

I think 2mb is about the default for all of em now. Yahoo! upgrades you after a while (I'm up to 6 on both of my accounts) but other than paying for it I don't think you'll find more storage.

Searching and destroying a file
genaldar replied to SuperChicken's topic in Everything New Technology
Why not write a quick batch to delete it? Then just run it on all the machines. -
The title says it all. Use the built in windows briefcase. All you do is copy all of the files you work on there. Then transfer the briefcase between machines, and tell it to synch. Its how I keep my documents for class up to date. Besides being free and built in it also comes in two styles (if you don't mind either registry hacking or you have x-setup) leather and steel.

One of the media players I use has an alarm you can set to exit windows. It's called jetaudio, in case your wondering. btw I'm sure someone knows of a script or something, I just thought I'd throw it out there in case it takes a while

What I suggest is running ad-aware and spybot regularly (once a week) and then to prevent spyware active x controls you can use spyware blaster. It'll stop spyware from invading ie, and it doesn't use system resources (other than a little hard drive space).

I never had a question. The only thing I said was that it probably wasn't a codec issue because most people who convert aren't stupid enough to use ac3. And yes it does have everything to do with xvid or divx. You see xvid and divx by default use mp3 for sound. Sure eventually mpeg 4 won't, but since that still isn't even an official standard it doesn't apply to this situation. And before you say it is an official standard tell me which one of the 3 they were arguing about just a couple of months ago they went with? Since there is a defacto standard and the video still didn't work properly the first course of troubleshooting would be to check the file itself. See if it plays on another system. If it does then you know you're missing something, if it doesn't then the file itself is likely the culprit. btw telling someone to install dvd software without knowing if they even have a dvd drive is a little silly. Why not tell them to install every codec on the net "just in case"? Your problem is that rather than just saying try getting an ac3 codec it may work you have to lecture so you feel important. Which is sad.

What program is that? Because it might not be actually clocking it that high, it could be misreading the clock speed. Try using powerstrip, then you'll know for sure.

nm, I've decided I'll let the self appointed "expert" fail to answer the question at hand while he lectures all us a/v "newbs".

The coolmaster is the problem, they're junk. They carry them at Radioshack so what did you expect? If you don't care about noise pick up one of either of these http://2cooltek.safeshopper.com/33/cat33.htm?524, personally I have the fop 38 (they didn't have the sak 38 when I bought mine). Loud as hell but my cpu is nice and cool. With that and decent air flow through the case (at least 2 case fans) heat should no longer be an issue for ya.

It's not divx. Since divx uses mp3 for the sound if he didn't have the correct codec he could hear it but not see it. The same goes for xvid. My guess is you just got a bad file. It happens all the time.
