    Internet connection problems

KPPP way If you use kppp to dial in then you might try setting the all of the slide adjusters relating to delays and timing to the left most forcing the modem to act a little snappier. The sliders are in the configuration settings area of kppp. I too have had the same problem but it only happened every hour, I would connect, surf, do anything for exactly 60 minutes and bam! no data would transfer, upload or download. NON-KPPP way If you do not use kppp then try to find the (no joke!) STUPID MODE setting on the modem, it causes the modem to ignore certain messages sent by your isp that may cause it to stop.

your computer does not have local apic

Try disabling the apic at the boot prompt before linux loads by typing NOAPIC or APIC=OFF, if either of these works then edit your boot loader to automatically insert these every time.
  3. What type modem are you using, are you using it through the network card? You might be able to configure your sound through the drakconf program (I think that's the name of it).
  4. just use kppp or wvdial, you will need to edit the user settings for your number within each one. I have had the same trouble and found that kppp is your best bet at a sane life.
