yeh my laptop that i use was off ME, but after previewing XP a bit on other computers, i saw i better quickly change over to linux if i could, so i could get used to it. Personally i would like to dual boot my comp, but currently i dont really have the hard disk space to do that kinda thing... i use my laptop with my old sucky games before that had low graphic needs, but now i dont use it for gaming at all really... i might soon try to, but right now i use our desktop( windows 2000) for all my gaming needs... So far, ive been loving linux... its awsome also my system which used to keep the fan running full almost the whole time under windows, its now compleatly silent.

ok, im a newb to c++, and currently teaching it to myself, i noticed one header or whatever file that didnt seem to be there and make my code work... in the book it says Quote: #include <iostream.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <string> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { string mystring; mystring = "Hello there"; cout << mystring << endl; return 0; } I did this, but it wont run... i also tried adding string.h instead of just string, and i tried doing the "string" instead of using the <> and same again with/without the .h .... the book is using Dev3++ though, and im using KDevelop.. but any clue of what it is? the errors i get are Quote: main.cpp:17:error:'string' undeclared (first use this function) main.cpp:17:error:(each undeclared identifier is reproted only once for each function it appears in.) main.cpp:17:error:syntax error before ';' token main.cpp:18:error:'mystring' undeclared (first use this function) main.cpp:21:4: warning: no newline at end of file any clue??? as for the last error message, thats always happened when theres errors, and once the other errors are gone it dissapears...

8) 8) 8) 8) 8) Whered it go? I clicked the shortcut on the desktop, noticing its icon had changed, then it failed to open it... and also its missing from the kicker menu... i cant do my usual search or anything without (for it was the only way i knew how to search for files) so I'm a bit on the freeking out side now... some1 help plz The icon on the desktop that used to read just Konsole has changed to konsole.desktop, and when I attemp to run it i get the following error The desktop entry file /usr/share/applnk-mdk/Terminals/konsole.desktop has no Type=... entry. I followed the dirrectory this far /usr/share/applnk-mdk/ in konqueror, but the Terminal file is missing.... with it the konsole.... The only option is ok,.... and that does nothing.... help? *edit* Been looking around, quite a bit of other programs are missing... such as one of the games (not Frozen Bubble.. the other1) Frozen Bubble runs, but then shuts itself, also the Configure Computer or whatever is missing from the Configureation menu... im looking around seeing what else has dissapeared mysteriously, soo yeh....

ok, i ran into the same problem with the gui, you see, while installing you probably forgot to choose to auto load in kde or whichever gui you picked, simply type in kde or start x in the command line (i think this should work... dunno... some1 suggested that to me, but not till it was too late and i had already just reinstalled it and making sure to pick right options

lol, coffee cup companies could sign some contract with some of the major distros and sell their metal cups as an addon with the distro packages could make some major bucks

Quote: Excuse me if you know all this already, but these are common mistakes. Make sure that the CD is burned using the option "burn image." Yeh thats true, I did it myself... lol.. I didn't relize I had to burn it a special way... anyways, a good way to see if you burned it correct is to see: a: open up the cd and see what files are in it... if all you see is the iso, you did it wrong b: also some burners are extream PAINS and rename the files if they are over so many characters long... to check this, you will see the cd and the correct icon, autostart it, and if you see stuff like LABEL 11 LABEL (other numbers) thats a good clue that it renamed the files on you, so you should download nero burner and then burn it with nero.. its the best for it being a short free time that you need. heres a nice faq by LinuxISO.com that I learned from http://www.linuxiso.org/viewdoc.php/howtoburn.html

8) IT WORKS!!! and i know why... ok, i was having problems whenever i tried to delete the one back in /home/neus/.mozilla/plugins.... i couldnt delete it via the window... so i left it there... but it was the version that didnt work (wasnt the whatever610-gcc whatever one) so then i just had to go in delete it from the konsole, then ln it back in with the proper file... also i switched the /root/ directory one and reinstalled it to /usr/lib/ to make access easier... and i deleted the root one... (yeh i know i was goin to bed.. i got bored of going to bed and decided to get back on )

nope... didnt work... ok.. how do i get rid off all the previous plugins ive attempted to install?? plus, which directory to i put the plugin in... ive got like 100 of em... i have /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4/plugins /home/neus/.mozilla/plugins /root/.mozilla/plugins those are the ones i could find... which one!!!?? and how do i uninstall all the extra ones i dont need? ok, ive been looking in each folder, and /usr/mozilla-1.4/ one looks the most like the real place... it has all the mozilla files in it too... the /home/neus/.mozilla is empty cept plugins, the /root/.mozilla is the same as the /home/ one and the usr/lib/mozilla/plugins... whatya know, the same pretty much.... so im guessing to /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4/plugins?? only problem is, its already there... and it wont let me copy over it... oh yeh, im moving back to the states, so we are switching to a hotel while the packers finish off our house. i dont know how often i will get internet once there, and if it will be on this laptop.. soo yeh... i might be able to check at least 1nce a day for bout one hours worth... nyways, im goin to bed... see if you can solve anything... ill be able to check agian in the morning till the movers come... which i dont know when they come.. cya.. oh yeh.. it could be that i wont show up again on this forum till after jan 1st when im back in the states...

ok... this is really starting to annoy me, but when u install some extra programs from the pacakages menu under configuration, it always messes up some desktop icons, and quite a few or all the icons in the kicker... in addition to this, many of the programs are also missing from the kicker... somehow i fixed this once, but its happened again, and dont know what i did last time that fixed it.
-
... anyways i dont minde kde taking a bit longer loading... ive gotten to know how to use it better and better, and it looks nice... but where did u get the windows 98 emulator or whatever? i noticed it on ur menu, and was wondering if there is a free download anywhere... cause i have some stuff that will only run under windows and wonder if that would do da trick... if not ill MAYBE get another computer soon then i could dual boot it or sumtin... tho personaly, i would want to change the windows xp to windows me or windows 2000 or something... xp is sucky... maybe even 98
