libdvdcss is my guess...maybe you dont' have encrypted dvd read support and that library will solve it...also make sure you got libdvdread installed=) Daum

It's been a while since i've really seen/used fc2, but as i recall it defaults to run into the X server...If you say the boot is fine..then it goes black, but doesnt seem to have frozen...try switching outta x(ctrl alt backspace) or switch to a terminal(ctrl alt fkeys 1-6)...if taht doesn't do anything....replace the disk into the drive and try reinstalling..i know when i used the fc's i somehow sometimes did get bad installs, it was weird but it happened..not sure if it was just how i did stuff, but it happeend. If you wanna just rid fc and what not and get down into linux(i reccomend this)..try slackware..its inbetween redhat's linux and more hardcore...the install isn't too bad...if you want to rid the mbr, i believe its fdisk -M /dev/hda(or whatever hd it is)....I think thats the right syntax, but you might want to check...if you want to get a really nice distro, but takes a while to set up try gentoo..install is a day or two depending on what stage you use, but after you get it installed its lovely.... quickest way to learn is jsut messing up the comp..it will teach you very fast..plus you get to learn so much more then trying to fix it and what not..thats how i learned and i do pretty well=) Daum

Ok, i just built my new comp and now i'm a slack boy( did a little compiling in fedora, but it neverworked out). Now when i compile sometimes i get segementation errors,internal compiler errors, and other random ones. But if i keep typing make it works...why is this ahppening? I did a memtest and watched my cpu temp, both stayed fine, the memtest failed on the first one(but it passed the second time). What is going on? Does it matter that i'm using gcc 3.3.4? Example of my errors are in k3b, i just had to type make about 8 times to get it to compile..then make install worked fine....help? Daum

Well, I finally got pissed at my old crap mozilla so i decdied time for upgrade...got hte new 1.6...it instaleld to usr/local/mozilla...so, i delete the folder for my old mozilla(1.4.1) which was at like /usr/lib/mozilla and mozilla1.4.1...since if i did uinstall my openoffice.org went with it. I made a new icon for my mozilla, but the prob is when i go to boot it(/usr/local/mozilla/mozilla) it keeps restarting from ground zero, as if it was the first time to run...what is the command line i want to set it so it just starts mozilla normally? Also, How do i set the new mozilla as my default explorer so stuff knows where it is too..and is there anyway to remove my old one without openoffice.org going too? did not really have time to read the entire post, but I know if you have a pre2k gateway, they use to do a lot of "specialized" hardware(aka they modified regular hardware to make it have the gateway name) and that caused several upgrades to be difficult, it is kinda like how micron did it. Daum

i don't know if suse does it also this way, you can do telinit 5...telinit 3 would take you back to the non-gui format...you type that in the terminal or the bash line if you running as non root then it would be /sbin/telinit 5 Daum

I ask becuase to play tuxracer my comp lags insane amounts(with the graphics or something, but i have an nvidia 2 card which claims to be installed correct) and gnome-terminal trying to go transparent is very laggy. Do i have to enable swap drive or something? when i did set up, it did create the partition or had it on the menu as it would. oh other partiotons are /dev/hda1 dir /boot ext3 98.7 mb total, used 8.2 and my linux parition -/dev/hda2 dir / ext3 35.6 gig, 11.7 used. edit!! Well, depending on how mandrake installs i know that fedora has a menu where you pick like personal comp, server, yada yada....at the buttom is custom or somethign to that extent...pick that choice, it will allow you to choose the packages. Daum
