One of my friends just told me that it seems that someone is being accessing his desktop. Here's the scoop: He has two dual systems in his computer, Mandrake 10C and WinXP. When he was running XP, he said that all of sudden his Linux OS opened up and it seemed like if some was acessing all his files in his computer and now there's even an icon, or shorcut, placed in his desktop from whoever was accessing his computer. Anybody knows what's happenning here? Is it because he has Linux now installed in his computer. I'm imagining that someone is using vmware, or one of those programs that are used to access a computer remotely. I'm not sure if it is because he has Mandrake in his computer, or if it is a security hole in XP or linux... Please post your suggestions here how he can fix this problem...I'll post more specifics later.

It's actually one of my movies that I want to back up. I try doing a little research on this, but only found long scripts of code from people, which are supposed to ripp dvds but still bugs in them that were never resolved. I'm relative new to K3b, but I was thinking they would have this option like DVDX Copy which just rips it for you. I didn't ask this question or search for this thread in a K3b forum.

Your mostly right Danleff. He's connected through cable and it is roadrunner, too! How only had the WinXp firewall running, which we all know it doesn't even count, but would it be there logged him who was the one that caused the intrusion? So he has to report this to his cable company... I'm guessing he's still having trouble 'cause he hasn't post it anything yet...

Yeah, bad news is that he doesn't have firewall! I asked him to post the specifics in here. Hopefully he'll do it later on today, but yes...he said that when he came back from work lot of his files like his C: drive and other files were showing on his WinXP desktop, and a bunch of his files were modified. He's computer rebooted aparently and went into linux and they were messing around with Kopete and whatever that could get they're hands on. I didn't know that someone would find out if a person has Linux in their computer by going through Wins. I guessing they saw the types of partitions he had probably a light clicked in their heads that it was a Linux HD, but still, I think he setted up his Linux installation to not act as a sever or in other words not let any ftp, etc. remote connections to his computer. Shouldn't shorewall catch this. We'll see what he says...

Does anyone know where I can an RPM for libpython2.2.so.0.0? I've trying to install Superkaramba 0.33 in my linux box; Mandrake 10 CR, but it is asking me for the libpythong2.2.so.0.0, which I tried searching for and it seems that only MandrakeClub seems to have, however, to get it from them you need to be one of their members, which requires me to pay for a fee. If anyone out there knows where I can get, please let me know. BTW, Mandrake 10 seems ok so far...looks great, the only problem I came across was during the first boot where it just hang, but that's normal I guess...and now evertything is working fine so far.

Superkaramba seems to be working fine with the rpm that I mentioned before, but I still have the problem where in the themes (i.e. icon bar, menu bar) is always top of all my windows and this is very annoying. When maximize a window, it is supposed to be under the windows. Anybody have an idea how I can access some of the files from the rpm that I installed. I'm able to access and edit the themes source code by doing a right click in the theme, but I have no idea how to access the main superkaramba (karamaba.cpp). When you install an rpm, which folders do these files go to? Anybody knows!

Do you have the library files that can read encrypted dvd's installed? (libdvdcss) If you don't go, installed run an rpm for here: http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/

Well, I downloaded the rpm (7774-superkaramba-0.33-1.i386.rpm) and it seemed to worked on Mandrake 10. It installed with no problems, but the only thing is that I don't know how Superkaramba and its themes be permanent on my desktop...Do I always have to open a console and execute the command Superkaramba to run this program? Isn't there a way to always keep its theme on my desktop? Another thing, is that its themes seemed to be always on top of the windows, which I found that if go into karamba.cpp and comment a line that tells the theme where to dock itself or not but the thing is that since I ran an RPM, how do I open that file and make. If anyone knows, Please let me know!

Last night I did a yum update on my computer and when I booted up my computer today I noticed that there were two fedora options with the oldest version of the kernel and the newest one in Grub. Is this normal...How do I make it to show only one option for fedora?

Xine is suppose to play any dvds, right? I'm getting a error when I tried to watch a movie. I agree mostly with everyone...I'm currently using Fedora and I started using Gnome as default of course, but then I remember when I was using Mandrake's KDE that you can have multiple backgrounds in diferent desktops (each desktop having its own background), so I tried to do that with Gnome I couldn't find that future...then I tried under Fedora's KDE and customized it again to have multiple backgrounds in each desktop, plus it seems to be more user-friendly and graphical.

Hey guys I just installed Fedora core 1 on my computer...everyone is right....Fedora is lightning fast for some reason. I have messed around with Manadrake 9.2, Morphix, Knoppix, and now Fedora. However, I still have the same problem that I have had with all of these distros. I can't play DVD's or listen to music CDs through the regular CD player. I can definitely listen to MP3s through the "music player" or "XMMS" that comes with Fedora. Does anyone have any suggestions? I think both of my dvd and cdroms are mounted....how do I make sure that they are definitely mounted? All I'm trying to do is to test if they can play and burn dvd's, burn regular discs, or just play music cds. Please help! Other than that, everthing seems to be working perfectly. When I do xine-check, everthing reports as good but I get in the middle of checking I get somthing like this: /dev/dvd is /dev/dvd, not a DVD device /dev/dvd is the default device that xine uses for playing DVDs. You could make your life easier by creating a symlink named /dev/dvd pointing to your DVD device (something like /dev/scd0 or /dev/hdc). If your DVD-ROM device is /dev/hdb (slave ATAPI device on primary bus), rm /dev/dvd ln -s hdb /dev/dvd typed as root will give you the symlink. Alternatively, you can configure xine to use the real device directly, using the setup dialog within xine, but I can't check your DMA settings in that case... So my quetion is can some please tell me what the syntax is for a symlink? Can someone give me an example? I really love Fedora and all I need for now is to get my dvd-rom and cd-rom working... Running xine gives me an error of ouf course, which says can't find input plug in for MRL [dvd:/] if I'm trying to see a movie. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

What is wrong with this guy..you guys are too nice trying to answer this kind of question. Dude, if in doubt just use a 700mb disc to burn your images. You should be nice when asking questions.

Anybody knows how to uninstall mandrake's bootloader? I recently installed Madrake 9.2 in a duel boot with WinXP, but now I want to try another distros without affecting the Wins partion of course and I like to start from scratch for the Linux partition and without a bootloader. Your expert advise will be greatly appreciated

I recently bought a new Sony Vaio PCV-RS310: 2.4B GHz Intel Pent. 4 80 GB, ATA-100 256 MB PC2100 DDR-SDRAM Intel® 845GV integrated graphics Current OS: WinXP home ed. I've been doing research and I've found nothing out there to try to find out which Lunix would be compatible with this desktop. So my first question is if anybody has had success installing Linux in this type of computer, or which version is it compatible with? I am so desperate to change to Linux, but I haven't had success in installing a previous version of Red Hat Linux 8.0 that I had. When I install this version of Lunix as a dual boot, it is able to install it, but as it is doing its first boot it crashes or goes out of bounds. It fails to boot up when doing something "compatible Eth01" check. Another thing, when switching back to Windows throught the boot loader, which I think is GRUB, it totally messes up my computer and Windows is not able to boot up again. I've already tried installing it a couple of times from a Primary partition that I created (4 Gigs just to try it) and I still can't succeed instaling it. Also, I as am doing the /boot partion throught disk fruid, it gives me a message that this partition might create problems with my type of archetecture and they recommed creating a boot disk, which I didn't and had to restore the whole computer image twice....I really want to have Linux in my computer, so any help will GREATLY appreaciated.
