Do I have to set the clockspeed?

The problem is 3 of these boards don't have manuals online. 1 is a Packard Bell & the other 2 are from a mom & pop shop - no brand name. I've tried searching for it on the net & came up with nothing. I think I have the PB board figured out, they did a pretty good job of explaining things right on the board but I'm not 100% sure on the 2 Award Software boards.
  2. This chipset says it's 2.2v core & 3.45 I/O, so what do I set the motherboard to?

What do I set the motherboard voltage to?

I didn't smell anyhting burning but the thing is I have 3 AMD K6-2 chips, so I have no clue if the board is no good, if it's all 3 of the chips, or if it's all of it. This is someone elses stuff so I could have got it in a non-working state - that's what I'm trying to dertermine.
  4. I'd prefer if there was some DOS proggy or something that I could use to check & see exactly how much RAM this thing has. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

How do I check how much RAM is actually there?

The memory tested at startup is the base & extended memory - not RAM. I will try the mem command, thanks. I should hav thought of that but it's been awhile since I really used DOS.

What do I set the motherboard voltage to?

well I tried setting it to the I/O first & now none of the chips are working, so I have no clue if I messed up the board or if none of these chips ever worked. I have 3 ADM K6-2 chips, you'd think one of them works. Perhaps I should just go down & have these tested. Aight, thanks for the feedback, i appreciate it.

What do I set the motherboard voltage to?

http://support.octek.com.au/Downloads/Files/Manual/P1/MVP3AT-B.pdf Page 14 is the layout (SW1 & SW2), then just after that it says "setting for processors". There is no I/O voltage setting & a core voltage setting on the board. You have to make a choice on what voltage to send, do I set it for the core or the I/O?

What do I set the motherboard voltage to?

I have a few different boards & a few different chips, what difference does it make? You have to set the voltage on the motherboard according to what processor you have but I don't know if I should be setting it to the core voltage or the I/O voltage. I'm thinking it's the I/O voltage but I'm not sure. To answer your question though... Motherboards K6XV3+/66 Rev B ASRock K7VT2 EP-8KTA & there is another board but it's not what we are primarily working on because it's older & it doesn't have a model or brand name listed anywhere. Processors AMD AUD900 Duron 900 AMD-K6-2/450AHX (2.4V Core/3.3 I/O) AMD-K6-2/550AGR (2.3V Core/3.3 I/O) & we have some other ones too but you get the picture. Now the Duron 900 and/or the ASRock K7VT2 is blown out for sure (owner tried installing 2 different types of RAM at the same time). The Duron 900 will only work in the ASRock K7VT2 or the EP-8KTA & I am currently trying the AMD K6 550 in the K6XV3+/66 Rev B but I need to know what to set the voltage to on the motherboard regardless if I am working with the K6XV3+/66 Rev B board or the EP-8KTA board (there are blue switch boxes with 5 or 6 switches on the board that are specifically for setting the voltage on the board).
  9. I know a guy who's ex-wife used Win2k on his computer (not sure if it's FAT or NTFS) & now they're split up & the guy is looking to unlock what she has passworded. I know in Win 95/98/ME that if you delete all the .pwl files, that removes the networking passwords. I was curious if there was something similar or perhaps something else that can be done so that we may gain access into the Administrator account &/or anything else that he may be locked out of system-wise (as opposed to third party proggy-wise). Any ideas? Thanks for your time.

Getting or getting past passwords in Win2k

When it's time for me to try & get into that PC, I'll try all this out. Thanks for your time & the info.
  11. There are certain resources on the server that I would like to make so that only certain programs can create new files or append data, however, any other program (including explorer (i.e. copying & pasting)) is denied access. Another thing to this is, some of these programs are not on the server. They would be located on the workstation. Any ideas? As always, I thank everyone for their time.
  12. I have a LAN system with 2 user accounts on each PC. 1 is an admin account, the other is a restricted user account. I want to be able to allow the clients access to the resources shared via the server, however, I have guest disabled because I only want authorized computers to have access to the servers resources. I have tried setting up accounts on the server but it still isn't permitting access to the resources. The server is Win2k & the clients are WinXP. Now I know it has something to do with the "Security" tab of the folder. I permit IBM Aptiva full control via the "Security" & "Share Permissions" tabs & it doesn't permit it, however, if I permit "Everyone" full control in the "Security", it allows the connection but I DO NOT want to permit everyone access into the resources or the locally on the workstation. Also, I do permit "Administrator" & "System" full control of the resource, it still won't work without permitting "Everyone". Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong or at least what it is I need to do to accomplish permitting authorized users only to the servers resources? Thanks for your time.

Permiting other users access to resources...

After I got some sleep I was able to figure this out pretty easily. I needed to add "NETWORK" into "Security". Thanks for your time anyways.

Permiting other users access to resources...

What's Active Directory? If it's another program to download & install then I'm not interested. The server is a 100mhz, I'm not having anything take up more resources. The clockspeed on this ancient thing is bad enough. Either way though, I don't understand why you are bringing up the guest account (to answer your question though, this is all in the same workgroup). I can get it working with guest disabled - that's not the problem, the problem here is in the "Security" section... The server is "Intel 6x86" & the client is "IBM Aptiva" (the restricted user accounts are by model &/or brand name, admin accounts are named admin). In the "Security" section of the resource I am working with on the Intel, I am permitting 4 accounts... #1) Administrator #2) Intel 6x86 #3) SYSTEM #4) IBM Aptiva & this connection DOES NOT work, however, if I add "Everyone" to the Security, it works fine (the client is obviously using the "IBM Aptiva" account). I do not want to be permitting "Everyone" access to this resource or any other. I don't see what "Everyone" is providing that is not already covered. Also, if this was a login problem, why wouldn't a login screen be prompted on the client workstation? The user/pass is exactly the same on the server & client, so I'm thinking that this is not the problem. Any ideas? As always, thanks for your time.
  15. There used to be a icon like every other connection icon in "Network and Dial-up Connections" called "Incoming Connections". This is now missing & I was wondering how I could bring it back. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    "Incoming Connections" missing from networking

Got it. Ya this is just a standard LAN connection, no dial-up or other connections via internet or anything like that. Good to know though, thanks.
  17. Marker0077

    "Incoming Connections" missing from networking

What does this do that it doesn't do without it? Is this just a more friendly user interface or what?

Multiple accounts that act as one...

I need to have 2 accounts, 1 is the admin account & the other is for everyone else but the thing is, when something is done on one account, I want it to be the same for the other. This goes for the start menu, any theme changes, any size changes, anything & everything I want to be the same except the access levels (which is the point of having 2 accounts). Any suggestions? Also, I am posting about this in the Win2k & WinXP forums because the server I have is Win2k but the clients are WinXP. The answer that I get in WinXP may not work in Win2k or vice versa, so please no complaints about the double post. Thanks for your time either way, - Marker0077

Multiple accounts that act as one...

no no, I mean what is it called by the feature; Like do I disable "Install on Demand", do I disable "ActiveX", what do I look for to disable? Alot of the users here are n00bs, if a pop-up says "install this or your computer will blow up", they'll do it. I need to make that option not even available.
  20. I have tried installing Microsoft .NET Framework on 2 different computers, 1 is Windows XP the other is Windows 2000. I get a regsvc (remote registry editing proggy) problem on both computers. Any suggestions?
  21. Marker0077

Microsoft .NET Framework Setup regsvc error

No but there was another program that appearently worked in conjunction with it that was disabled. I just re-installed this OS, I know I didn't disable anything so it obviously does it by default by MS standards which is stupid considering they're the ones that set up the defaults & they set up the installers for .NET... woteva, problem solved, thank you.

Multiple accounts that act as one...

Well I do know that when I went to AstaLaVista in Opera, the browser would not permit the question of installing to even be asked. Anyways, what is that called specificall? I'm curious to what I should be blocking out name-wise. Also, I set the security permissions for "System" to full control in almost all folders, so that should solve any system problem. Locally at least.

Multiple accounts that act as one...

tweakui: ya i checked that out & the x-setup proggy, both real cool. I'm not a newcomer to tweak ui although I must say, it is a bit buggy icon-wise & has been for some time. mozilla: thanks for the tip but I'm not going to have everyone install & use a whole new browser just because of activex, however, i will disable activex now that I know that that's what causes the problem. Thanks again.

    Automatic Login in WinXP

Is there a way to automatically login with an account? This was an option in Win2k but I don't see it in WinXP.

    Automatic Login in WinXP

I was going to install the Tweak UI anyways but I haven't had a chance to really dive into the XP OS yet. I'm working on the server first (which is Win2k), then the clients (which are WinXP). Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.
