dapper dan ive tried getting fedora through the link in the previous threaad and anywhere else i can find to no avail. Currently i have to go with the distros listed because those are what i have and cannot download anymore at this time ive heard mixed baggage about red hat and just dontknow but it i really liked knopppix ran it offmy friends pc ran beernix on my laptop loved it now if i could get knoppix on my hp im talkin of the ones listed because i dont feel like downloading any more distros as of now and im fully aware of that withlinux than dapper dan

all right tme to switch distros then um out of these which would you recomend and if i say they messed maybe you can help me boot it up Live cd Beernix Boots fine in failsafe otherthat no go Morhpix wont boot after pressing enter Knoppix. Shows main screen then goes to black screen Debian Mandrake 9.1 EvilE (just listing) Ill give mandrake a go again now see if that works.

Alright i just got linux for my desktop and i want to put it on my laptop the thing is the specs are extremely low 166mhz intel mmx 16 bit creative soundcard 16 mb video card unsure manufacture 2 gig hard drive so it needs to take up little space and be very small as well as stable any recommendations and is it even smart to put linux on a laptop. thanks in advance for the help

I couldnt get gentoo before i had to go but i did get debian on there i installed the first cd but not the second because it took 20 minutes to load the second anyway its text interface anyway to get to a gui and linux found the video card to be vesa vga which is odd because under win2k pro it found it to be a svga becaue i had high resolution going.
-
Ive heard great things bout gentoo cept the fact of installing ill give it a try
-
are you suggesting i switch the inside with a nvidia the inside is like a rats nest it is not fun taking apart and i dont know what card it is but i also have featherlight debian Gibraltar Firewall Red hat Mandrake Beernix Morphix and slackware you think any of these would work on my laptop i just love cable and the vid card gave some options im just not fast enough to write it down because then it goes straight into the linux kernel which, and then it is done i dont think i can use a live cd judging by both the processor and cd speed i tried featherlight and left it on for three hours still hasnt boot
-
got it issue though it says you passed an undefined mode number press return to see video modes space to skip again im clueless as to the graphic card the laptop is a micron transport xpe when i load it the screen just stays black the cd rom is 4x though

I dont know if this is common sensse or if its my fault, but here it goes im going to do a dual boot with both xp and mandrake 9.1 now i got the distro from one of the links on the board ended up to be a 680 mb file. anyway i burned a total of 6 discs one for each image using nero burning rom 6. Then i also made a boot distro, and the floppy. Now i can go into the intstall but its asking for a scsi, and it says it cant find the cd install. Do i need another file or is there something else i need to do.. i have a hp a220n a 120GB dma hard drive. ntfs seperated into two partition one 98 gb NTFS and a 3 gig FAT32 an amd 2600 and i beleive nforce 2 board. But everything seems to check out cept the cd roms anything i need to do to fix this cd drives are primary Dvd Rom atape 16X Slave Cendyne 48/16/48 rewriter ive tried all the cds i have one for each image and nothing is there another file i need to get the one i got was Mandrake91-cd1-inst.i586 thanks in advance for any response any more info needed just ask
