You might want to try sda0. Or anything from sda0 to sda9.

Its actually no problem at all. If you do not enter root access, you will realize that Limewire cannot be installed into any other directory than your Home directory as it is with all other software. You can trash your Home directory any way you like. No security issue there. A harmful software can only cause serious damage if it's installed using root access and thus have access to all impt system files. So actually its more secure to install software without using root access.

Experienced this problem before. Run the game as Root. It should work fine.

what's ur opinion on the future of GNU/Linux platform?
iamroot replied to iamroot's topic in Linux Games
But most of the games in the list aren't the commercial games that Windows users are used to. It's true that WINE and Cedega is pretty good in running Windows-only games. However the everchanging tech landscape esp D3D, will ensure that WINE and Cedega always play the catching-up game. Till date, WINE does not have a D3D implementation. -
Something's wrong with your BIOS. FC3 cannot stop you from booting from the cd drive.

Can anyone recommend wireless equipment that works best for GNU/Linux?
-
How? I can't access my GUI.
-
I certainly hope that a solution could be found. My aunt has a Linksys Wireless G router and card which she wants to pass to me but i can't use them.
-
Why don't you try running Du meter in WINE? It might just work.

Minor correction. GNU/Linux is not freeware. Its free software. Freeware means that the software can be obtained and used for no money. Free software means that the user has these 4 freedoms of usage. * The freedom to run the program, for any purpose (freedom 0). * The freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it to your needs (freedom 1). Access to the source code is a precondition for this. * The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor (freedom 2). * The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits (freedom 3). Access to the source code is a precondition for this. Quite different from freeware. More info at http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html

M$ getting tougher with legit windows to get updates
iamroot replied to LinuxCrusader's topic in Slack Space
Microsoft might just be shooting themselves in the foot with this plan. The countless pirated Windows systems out there would be the carriers for all the viruses and malware out there. -
Yeah. That's correct. Except you can do the unpacking by right-clicking on the file instead of doing it thru the terminal.
-
If i'm not mistaken, flashplayer does not have to installed by compiling code. Its a shell script i think.

I've never experienced any such problems with Firefox. Been using it all the way from 8.0 to 1.0. Best browser around.
-
I faced the same problem as you when trying to automatically install FP7 through Firefox. I used apt-get to install it but you can do it manually. Download the tar.gz file and unpack it by right-clicking it and select the unpack option. There should be an executable which you can start by going to the terminal, cd to the directory where the file is and then ./filename. I havent done these manual installations much since i started using apt-get so im not too familiar with flashplayer installation procedures.

I'm New Here, if Fedora 3 is a more capable OS than XP why........
iamroot replied to Justbill's topic in Everything Linux
I'm using Fedora Core 3 now and i don't experience any of the usability problems that you have stated. You have to mount the floppy drive to copy files over. Try this mkdir /mnt/floppy mount /dev/fd0 -
All "Linux-compatible" software will work on all GNU/Linux distros with the exception of Debian packages and RPMs. It's just that your distro might not have some packages that the software requires resulting in a non-install.

I just installed FC3 yesterday and i discovered that i'm unable to shutdown. Whenever i attempt to shutdown, i get this error msg psmouse.c : bad data from KBC - timeout Btw, I faced this problem as well when i upgraded to a 2.6.9 kernel on my old FC2 installation so im guessing that its a kernel issue. Can anyone here help me out? I don't want to have to do a hard shutdown everyday...

Must be some hardware compatibility issue with my motherboard and kernel 2.6.9.
