My trusted old AMD Athlon XP 1800++ system recently gave out on me. The processor is still good though, so I'm looking for a new motherboard that is compatible with my processor. Not much luck so far since all AMD processors are 64-bit and my old Athlon is 32-bit. Can anyone recommend me a motherboard that is compatible with my processor?

You should install XP first. Then install Debian. This will overwrite the Windows bootloader with GRUB/Lilo. This will allow you to dual-boot.

I've got a friend who wants to install GNU/Linux but his hard disk is entirely occupied by 1 NTFS partition, as it is with all default Windows installations. How can I extract space from his NTFS partition and format it in ext3 for GNU/Linux. Planning to install Ubuntu btw.

I know that Linspire is bsed on Debian but alot of changes has been made. I know for a fact that root access is enabled by default, like Windows.
-
Linspire has a bad rep among the general GNU/Linux community cos of it's fervent efforts to emulate Windows, right down to the interface and the security permissions. Linspire doesn't have the root, user standard config.

There are some apps that I want to install with Wine but it involves changing the "Windows-version" that Wine is imitating. I have no idea how to do this. I've read that it involves editing /home/username/.wine/config file but there's no such file in my .wine directory. Someone pls help.
-
My WINE version is the older version. winecfg only works with the latest version.

Urm. Are there any free tools that can do the job? Credit card payment is a non-option for me.

rpm -ql wine | grep config This command helped me find my wine config file. Apparently it was here: /etc/wine/config

Do multifunction printers work with GNU/Linux? Cos I'm thinking of getting a Canon PIXMA MP110 All-in-One printer which can print, scan and copy. I have a feeling it won't work with GNU/Linux but i've gotta hope! Anyone?
-
Has anyone here got a canon mp110 and used it with turboprint?

You can start with Mandrake. Or rather Mandriva. Suse is not bad for beginners, but its not free.

Most LCD monitors should be compatible with GNU/Linux.

I installed UT 2003 and ran the loki_update utility to patch my game but the utility couldn't download the patch. So I manually downloaded the patch and tried to install it. I got this error msg.
