Sound not working on Mandriva + Toshiba Laptop
iamroot replied to spondootre's topic in Everything Linux
What sound card are you using? Did you check whether your card is detected? Go to System Settings and Soundcard Detection. -
You might want to try ejecting as the super-user.
-
Did you check the md5 checksum? I'm still downloading FC4 now so I can't try installing yet.
-
Hmm. That's weird. What version of CentOS are you using? I've only had sound card problems with RH8 so far. I've used onboard and SB Live! perfectly since then.
-
Urm. What's wrong with this one?

WINE? www.frankscorner.org -
Which distro are you using?

Audigy LS not working with Fedora core 4 :(
iamroot replied to ModestKilla's topic in Linux Hardware
What problems? -
Try using yum or APT to reinstall all the GNOME packages.
-
Which distro are you using. The older ones would require manual mounting whereas the newer ones don't. Download usbview and chec if your drive is detected in the 1st place.
-
Try uninstalling the upgrades which you did since its pretty obvious that the upgrades messed your system up.
-
Visual Basic? How bout KDevelop? It's prety good.
-
Set the kicker to " show hide buttons" then hide it before yous start the game. That's what I did when I played diablo 2 last time on KDE.
-
I think its because of the crack that you installed.

I can understand how you are feeling right now. My school didnt offer ICT when I took my GCE exam so I was really looking forward to enrolling into the IT course in the polytechnic. I had at this time already discovered GNU/Linux and was really fervent to learn more about IT. My illusion was completely busted when I went through my 1st week of study and I received my study plans. I was planning to take up the advanced programming module only to discover it was Java.(I had expected something like C or C++) I had no choice but to take the Computer Architecture module where I felt like crap cos we had to learn stupid stuff similar to what Malaris posted and the lecturer kept making stupid mistakes like Linux is a version of Unix, Solaris can only work on Sun hardware and Intel is the only processor brand for home users. I had enrolled into the course to learn something new and enrich my knowledge but instead I'm stuck there for 3 years learning what does CPU stand for. Haiz.

Mandrake 10.0 Graphics problem on install
iamroot replied to earlstreetblue's topic in Linux Hardware
Please be more specific when stating your problem. -
Do you have your root password?

Source files are more commonly packaged as tar.gz however I've seen zipped ones as well. Anyway, it's better for beginners to stick with RPMs or shell installers for installing software. Even many experienced users don't install from source. It's messy and difficult to uninstall.

I'm getting a Canon MP110 and connecting it to my 2nd com with Windows-installed on it.

Slax. It's perfect for your purpose. It was created to fit on a mini cd. It's only 185 MB and has a full-featured GUI.(KDE) http://slax.linux-live.org/

Does OS/2 still exist? It was before my time but I heard that it was pretty good. At least much better than the Windows OS of that time.

Anyone using WLI2-USB2-G54 with ndiswrapper in Mandrake 10.1
iamroot replied to longbowdev's topic in Linux Networking
That probably means the linspire driver is not released under a Free Software or Open-Source license and is thus proprietary software.
