I am currently using Mandrake 10 and so far I really like it. My question is whether this is the best version of linux to use. I have not used any other version before. I use my computer mainly for the following things. General internet and email, gaming, video editing (avi to vcd and svcd) I would appreciate any input on this.

I got it from an ftp. Dont remember where at the moment though

I am working on trying to get this all setup and am having some trouble with getting the sensors to work for temperature. I installed lm_sensor but either it did not install correctly or something else is wrong. Anyone want to take a shot at this one?
-
Not sure whih file you are referring to. I used the add software in mandrake 10 to install both gkrellm and lm_sensors. gkrellm 2.1.25 lm_sensors 2.84.1

I was trying to add something to my start menu and accidently hit the remove application menu. I have the menu back but it does not look the same. Can someone please tell me how to restore the menu to the wat it was before? I feel pretty stupid right about now!! LOL Also the Icon for it is different. Shows a folder instead of the Mandrake icon. Thank you

I installed gkrellm and it works great on my system. I am pretty impressed with it.

Hey everyone, I got this figured out. Right click on the icon to get the menu editor and then go to add-->kmenu Got it all back the way it is supposed to be.

I know that back when I was using windows xp I had the smartbar xp installed. But now I know better and am using Linux Anyway, I would like to be able to have my system and fan temps as well as other stats located in a bar on the desktop like that. Very cool!!!

Admiral LSD, if you happen to read this could you please tell me about the info side bar you are using? I am running Mandrake 10 and would really like to have something like that on my desktop. Also, if anyone else knows of where to gwet something like that please let me know. Thanks everyone!!!!

Boy Dapper Dan, That would certainly be irritating to say the least. But rather funny as well. No there is nothing in the trash. I could post a screen shot of how it appears now if that would help. I don't know what to do. I figured if I just looked at what options were available in the add/ edit section I would be able to fix it but no luck so far. I can still access all my programs, it just looks different.

I have a few games for linux that were given to me and the system requirements say kernel 2.2.x I am running Mandrake 10 which I believe is kernel 2.6.x. Can anyone tell me if this will be a problem? The software titles are Simcity 3000, Rune, Kohan, and Soldier of fortune. Also, if there may be other issues I should be aware of please let me know. Thank you

I installed the update without any problems and now when I try to start the game it gives an error of Segmentation Fault. Anyone know what this might mean? I am googling the issue now and have not found any help so far.

I installed Simcity 3000 per directions on the cd and this is the error code I got when trying to run the game. Can anyone try to explain this in english? LOL [shadowmatrix@xxxxxxxxxxxx shadowmatrix]$ sc3u sc3u: relocation error: sc3u: symbol _dl_global_scope, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file ld-linux.so.2 with link time reference [shadowmatrix@xxxxxxxxxxx shadowmatrix]$ Thanks for your help.

Does anyone know of some good programs to use for converting AVI movies to MPEG for VCD and SVCD? And splitting and joining them as well. I am running Mandrake 10 and hoping to use KB3 to do the burning unless anyone knows of a eason not to or knows of something better to use. Thanks for your help

Does anyone know how to add an entry to a program in the wine list of apps under emulators in the start menu? I have been looking for a way to do this and either am blind or just have'nt found it yet.

I have had no problems at all with Mandrake 10 CE. Everything works and works very well. I have no complaints at all.
-
The drivers are not that difficult. Make sure you read and preferrably print out the instructions. The instructions are well written. Just be sure to follow them step by step and you should have no problems. As for the RPM, I have not seen any yet.

I had the same problem with my Mandrake 10 CE Install. As it turns out, the partitioning tool in "Mandrake is Flakey at Best" There words, not mine. Anyway, I split my hard drive with Partition magic and left the new partition unformatted. When the install question came up I chose to use unallocated space and had no problems with installation whatsoever, accept my video card, which was solved here in the forum.

You can also use nero through WINE. I use it and it works ok for me. But K3b works very well and I am thinking I like it better then Nero.

I picked this scanner up at a yard sale and I don't have the software for it. Does anyone know if it will work in Mandrake 10? Scanport Color SQ4830 Printer port (LPT) connection 30 Bit Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like that process is for a usb device. Mine is a parallel port.

I am using an NVidia 5200 agp 4x 128 mb card and it works great. Had a few issues getting it going but it was all taken care of. You may want to take a peek at the thread I had for the nvidia card.

Here is the information I was able to pull on the scanner in XP. It works great in XP by the way. Device = Scanner 300A4 5.10 Type = SCSI Scanner Host Adapter = OnSpec 90C26E Rev. 0x55 Position = HA:0, Tgt:5, LUN:0 Port = Enhanced parallel port at address 378 Throughput supported by the port Read = 1239 Kb/sec Write = 1127 Kb/sec Like I said, it's not that big of a deal. I spent 2 hours last night trying to get this to work in Mandrake 10 but no luck. I am cursed with the fact that if I can't get something to work I have to pound away at it untill I get it. LOL Oh well, if anyone wants to take a stab at it.....

Thanks for the link. It was helpfull. I am thinking it is going to be difficult if not impossible to get this one working. I am dual booting with XP so I think I will scan images there and I can always access them from with in linux if needed. I thought about trying it in wine but I am still really new to the whole compile, make process and don't feel comfortable with doing that yet. I am surprised I got wine installed without problems. LOL Hey I have only been using Linux for 4 days now so I think I am doing alright.

I was able to get overnet to work, command line only though. There is a gui built for it but I was unable to get that part working.
