Which game is causing this? Try installing game patches to fix the bug.

Ideally, run SYSPREP before imaging the computer so that hardware or sid specific information is removed and then you can guarantee it will work on other computers. Sysprep is available in Deploy.msi file on XP CD.

I may be a multi-CD game, try inserting Disc 1 with the setup files on it.

Could be a resource conflict somewhere between the AGP card and some other hardware. Check BIOS settings, Device Manager etc.

peterh replied to hawghead's topic in Everything New Technology
Boot off the XP CD and do a repair install over the existing Windows installation to fix these files. -
Have you enabled Offline Folders on his shared folder to allow them to be sync'd between his computer and the server? See Caching on the Share Properties.
-
Just delete the D:\Windows (assuming thats where the 2nd install is) folder and then update Boot.ini to remove the entry from menu on startup (use MSCONFIG, Check all Boot paths).

It means that you have problems with your memory. I get the message when shutting down but not running programs. Try replacing the memory DIMM and see if the problem reoccurs.

Need help converting Windows XP Pro (Chinese) To English
peterh replied to VirusPunk's topic in Everything New Technology
You cannot 'convert' one language of XP to another. You need to return the software back and get the English language version. -
You can repair Winsock and TCPIP problems with this command: Netsh winsock reset

I assume you have tried the 1.2 patch then? See http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/mightandmagic9/downloads.html

You shouldn`t have set the DVD to master as the PC expects the master drive to be the boot drive. The HD should be master and others as slave, you could add the DVD to secondary IDE line as master.

Okipage 4w was discontinued back in Oct 1997. http://www.okidata.com/mkt/html/nf/EndOfLifeProds.html Anyway, I found drivers on www.driverguide.com for 95, NT, XP: http://members.driverguide.com/index.php...m=b&jmd=and

BTW, Windows 9x machines cannot 'join' a domain as such but can authenticate against a domain and access resources. Roaming profiles will not work either. A small warning, roaming profiles may stop working if trying to logon to different machines with different OSs due to differences in registry layouts.

I suggest forget using old software on Win 2000, I doubt such an old version of Oracle will work on 2000. Win 2000 includes autoexec.nt and config.nt where some changes can be made from the old autoexec.bat file. Win 2000 includes dos emulation via Command.com or cmd.exe for command line use.

Windows XP does not support gameport type Sidewinder joysticks and only provides minumum functionality ie no force feedback, extra controls etc. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;842957 I suggest getting a USB Sidewinder.

There are two methods, either delete contents of C: by formatting the C: drive by booting from either the XP or 2000 CD and use Disk Setup screen to format it. You can delete the C: partition and create a fresh C: partition (make sure it comes up as C:, not E: or something by removing any removable drives eg. USB, ZIp etc). Then install 2000 as normal. http://www.windowsreinstall.com/

Windows98Se Laptop Fat32 and External Hd 300gb Ntfs with files Need to convert
peterh replied to Karaoke Guy's topic in Legacy OS
FAT32 has nothing to do with NTFS, its the OS that determines whether a Filesystem can be read. Anyway you can download NTFS for Windows 9x from SysInternals that will solve your problem: http://www.sysinternals.com/win9x/98utilities.shtml -
What sort of internet connection do you have? DIal up modem? ASL or Cable Modem, if so, Ethernet or USB? If DSL/Cable, make sure its plugged into a normal port on the hub to allow internet and local network to work. The uplink port is for chaining hubs together.
-
Run IPCONFIG on the new machines. Make sure DNS is pointing to the Win 2000 server's DNS and NOT ISP DNS. Also, make sure Client for MS Networks is installed. Check Event logs as well.

Could be a bug in the network drivers on the old pc. Try up[censored] them.

You might have knocked something inside the case, reseat the memory, any PCI/AGP cards, check IDE cables and power as well and retry it.

Is it normal for the HD to run for over a minute at reaching desktop in Win2k SP
peterh replied to pr-man's topic in Everything New Technology
You may have a lot of programs loaded at startup. Look at Registry in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run to see whats loaded and in Start, Programs, Startup -
Try reformatting using NTFS rather than FAT32 as there is a 32GB limit for FAT32 partitions in XP.
